2025 INFINITI QX55 Review

He reports for KBB from Long Beach, California.

Pros

  • Stylish
  • Standard all-wheel drive
  • Affordable for segment

Cons

  • Dated in-cabin tech

What's New?

  • No changes

The 2025 Infiniti QX55 is a design-forward luxury SUV with plenty of second-row legroom and cargo space to go with its coupe-like style. Pricing starts at $51,500.

The Infiniti QX55’s SUV-meets-coupe proportions are an effort to put a bit of style into what is otherwise an SUV’s rather block-like design. The result is taking a little practicality away from a more traditionally shaped SUV while adding a bit more style. For drivers who prioritize form over function, the QX55 delivers excellent road manners, comfort, and performance with a dash of panache.

For some, the utility compromise is a non-starter, but for many others, that small sacrifice is more than worth the gain in terms of a sportier, less frumpy visual.

Moreover, the QX55 also delivers the coupe-like SUV concept at a lower price than some of its rivals.

We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of compact luxury SUVs, including the Infiniti QX55.

What's New for 2025

Infiniti first launched the QX55 for the 2022 model year; however, its architecture and many of its fixtures were based on the 2019 QX50 SUV. Consequently, the QX55 received a few minor tech and feature upgrades for the 2024 model year and will continue unchanged into 2025. The good news: Pricing is also unchanged for 2025.

2025 INFINITI QX55 Pricing

The 2025 INFINITI QX55 has a starting sticker price of $51,500, with the range-topping QX55 SENSORY kicking off at $60,000. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,642 to $3,438 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

MSRP
KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.)
$51,500
$48,858
$56,450
$53,012
$60,000
$56,790

With key rivals costing thousands more, the Infiniti QX55 does represent somewhat of a bargain in the SUV coupe arena. However, other coupe-like SUVs offer more prestige and arguably more engaging driving experiences, so it might be worth considering the pricier Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW X4, or Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

If we were shopping for a QX55 we would be very tempted to pony up the extra $5,000 for the Essential trim with its surround-view camera, adaptive LED headlights, 16-speaker Bose audio system, and more. However, we would be quite happy with the well-equipped entry-level Luxe trim, which also happens to be the best-selling QX55.

Before buying a new QX55 luxury SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Resale values are about average, similar to the Audi and BMW. Remember, recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.

Driving the INFINITI QX55

The turbocharged engine in the QX55 makes 268 horsepower, more than the base units in the BMW X4 and Audi Q5 Sportback. Despite the relatively powerful engine, the QX55 doesn’t offer class-leading performance, taking 6.4 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 60 mph. That puts the QX55 behind both German rivals.

The QX55’s ride is sporty yet comfortable despite the 20-inch run-flat tires. Active Trace Control, a system that uses subtle brake application to enhance cornering, is standard equipment.

Active noise canceling in the cabin plus acoustic glass for the front side windows helps suppress road noise, although Infiniti hasn’t created a particularly tranquil cabin in the QX55. Our main disappointment, though, is the use of a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Slower to respond than properly geared transmissions, CVTs also tend to drone when working the drivetrain hard. However, CVTs are a tradeoff many manufacturers accept to bolster fuel economy.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors help make the largely obstructed rearward sight lines easier to live with.

Fuel Economy

The QX55 achieves 25 combined mpg (22 city/28 highway). This is on par with the Q5 Sportback (25 mpg) and the BMW X4 (24 mpg).

Interior Comfort

With so many current vehicles adopting a driver information/infotainment touchscreen arrangement in a single unit, the QX55’s dashboard looks dated. In fact, it is because it reflects the technology found in the 2019 QX50.

The QX55 has two touchscreens, set above one another in the center console. The 8-inch upper display handles navigation and shows the feed from the reversing camera. The lower 7-inch screen deals with the audio system, phone integration, and temperature controls for the climate system and front seats.

The front seats are comfortable, power-adjustable, and heated as standard. The rear seats split and fold 60/40.

Rear passengers have 38.7 inches of legroom — over 3 inches more than the X4— plus 36.9 inches of headroom.

With the rear seats folded, luggage space increases from 26.9 to 54.1 cubic feet. This is better than the Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW X4, or Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

Exterior Styling

The 2025 QX55 is a sharp vehicle that delivers a visual punch. The details are mostly safe and familiar, and the large 20-inch standard wheel gives it a planted stance.

The Luxe trim gets a unique black-themed headlight treatment, while the Essential and Sensory trims upgrade to self-leveling LED headlights. All models get power-folding, heated side mirrors, capacitive rear door handles, and LED welcome lighting is standard for all four doors.

Favorite Features

Wireless Apple CarPlay
Luxury vehicles should make life more convenient. The 2025 QX55 SUV contributes to this by enabling Apple iPhone users to keep their devices in their purses or pockets and integrate with the infotainment system without the aid of a cable.

Wireless Device Charging

Because it’s pointless to cut only half the cables, having standard wireless charging means you don’t have to plug in to keep your phone charged even while you use the wireless smartphone integration.

ProPilot Assist
This is adaptive cruise control with stop/go and steering assistance. This bit of semi-autonomous assistance is standard across the 2025 QX55 SUV range. We appreciate it because it helps combat the dullness of long stretches of freeway.

Around View Monitor/Moving Object Detection
Available starting with the midlevel Essential trim, this is a 360-degree surround camera system. We think it’s especially helpful when maneuvering in tight spaces.

Hands-free tailgate operation
Part of the top Sensory trim’s standard equipment, all it takes is a wiggle of the foot under the rear bumper to open. No more setting down the groceries to pop open the rear hatch.

All-wheel drive
All-wheel drive is standard in the 2025 QX55, great for tackling wintry conditions or just getting power to the ground. To optimize fuel economy, the system sends power to the front wheels most of the time. When conditions dictate, it can seamlessly direct up to half the available drive to the rear wheels.

Engine & Transmission

The 2025 Infiniti QX55’s turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine might sound like a pretty ordinary engine, but it is, in fact, unique in the market. Why? Because it’s a variable compression engine, able to turn up the power or the economy at will. The resulting engine is one of the most powerful in its class for a base model, rated at 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The power is routed through an automatic transmission to the QX55’s standard all-wheel-drive system.

4-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty

Infiniti’s new-car warranty is 10,000 miles better than most competitors, with coverage lasting four years or 60,000 miles. The QX55’s powertrain is protected for six years or 70,000 miles, which is typical. There’s also complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years and roadside assistance for four years, each regardless of mileage.

Safety Ratings

The 2025 QX55 hasn’t been tested fully by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the related 2024 QX50 received a 5-star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning/lane departure prevention.
