If you like the look of the H2 SUV, but need more room for items like dirt bikes, camping gear and other tall cargo that won’t fit inside an enclosed SUV, the 2008 H2 SUT is the HUMMER for you.
Despite its laudable versatility, the short cargo bed limits what you can carry and, with the Midgate down to increase cargo capacity, the vehicle’s interior is open to the great outdoors. If hauling is your primary concern, a full-sized crew cab pickup would be a far better choice.
The 2008 HUMMER H2 receives a major interior makeover with a new dash, upgraded seating and new door panels. New standard features include electronic stability control, head curtain airbags and a new 6.2-liter V8 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Looking for the ultimate off-road machine but also need a vehicle that doubles as an everyday workhorse? You’re in luck. The 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT (Sport Utility Truck) combines the chassis and interior of the H2 SUV with an open bed and folding "Midgate" pass-through for increased cargo-holding capability. Although the full-size Chevrolet Avalanche is a bit more practical and probably just as good off-road, the H2 SUT projects an image even the most customized of pickups can’t match. Plus, the H2 SUT’s short front and rear overhangs make it a better choice for serious off-road enthusiasts. Now, if we could just convince HUMMER to drop in a diesel engine.
The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors, but here's a general idea of what buyers are currently paying for used 2008 HUMMER H2 models when purchasing from a dealership.
Though the 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT’s high seating position delivers a commanding view ahead, the narrow side windows make it difficult to view smaller objects (like cars) that are close to the H2’s sides. The feeling is not unlike being inside a Brinks armored car. Thankfully, the large side mirrors and optional rear backup camera help you see objects and persons that reside below the windows’ high sill line. On the open road, the H2 moves right along, seemingly oblivious to the laws of aerodynamics. The big HuUMMER is surprisingly stable and the position of the wide 17-inch tires at the vehicle’s outermost corners mean you get minimal body roll and pretty respectable handling. Again, this accolade must be taken in context — we are talking about the handling of a Sport Utility Truck, not a sports car.
The H2 SUT’s new interior is identical to that of the H2 SUV; that is, until you reach the rear bulkhead. The second-row split-bench seat is wide, but legroom is snug when the front seats are fully extended. Behind the rear seat is a folding Midgate design that allows the bed to be expanded into the passenger cabin while the rear seat collapses out of the way. To let in more air or to make room for longer items, a single switch lowers all four windows plus the power rear window.
Like the 2008 HUMMER H2 Sport Utility Vehicle, the SUT projects a powerful image of capability, style and ruggedness. The doors are neatly flush with the rest of the body panels and their hinges are hidden from view. Like the H1, the hood features exposed latches, lift handles and fasteners. The short box and vertical rear window give the SUT an appearance similar to that of the military version of the HUMMER, the HUMVEE.
One-Touch Button
This button can lower all four windows plus the rear Midgate window with a single press.
Roof Cap
The short bed can be covered with an optional roof cap that helps keep your goods safe from sticky-fingered thieves.
The 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT includes, as standard equipment, full-time four-wheel drive, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, locking rear axle, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), engine oil cooler, folding Midgate with power window, 32-gallon fuel tank, illuminated entry, power windows, power locks, head curtain airbags, automatic headlamps, dual-heated power mirrors with left-hand auto dimming mirror, XM Satellite Radio, OnStar, heated front and rear leather seats with dual eight-way power front seats, skid plates, cruise control, stability control, tilt wheel with touch controls and traction control.
Options for the 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT are numerous and include a brushed aluminum light bar, spotlights, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, remote start, touch-screen navigation radio, air suspension, tool kit, exterior front and rear guards and a number of off-road, luxury and appearance packages.
For off-road adventuring, including steep hill encounters and bouldering, the transfer case can be locked, creating a perfect 50/50 balance of power. A four-channel anti-lock brake set-up and traction control module helps limit wheel spin on slippery or unstable ground and can even send power to a single wheel when necessary. The H2 SUT’s four-wheel-drive system works well, thanks to the new 6.2-liter dynamo of a V8. With 393 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, there are very few obstacles in nature that the H2 SUT cannot overcome.
