The 2024 GMC Sierra EV is a new, all-electric full-size pickup with a great 440-mile range and clever cargo features. Pricing starts at $99,495.
Electricity, capability, and luxury converge in the 2024 Sierra EV. Although it bears the same Sierra name as its combustion-powered stablemate, this truck is based on a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform — just like the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The usual GMC and Chevy connection remains, even in this new electric era.
Both electric trucks make remarkable power and are capable of swift acceleration. They don’t quite match their combustion cousins in terms of towing and payload, yet someone who needs ultimate capability in those areas is less likely to go down this rechargeable road anyway.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of full-size truck EVs, including this GMC Sierra EV.

Although GMC vehicles are a little more premium than their Chevy counterparts, we still recommend checking out the new Silverado EV RST, starting a few thousand lower. The Ford F-150 Lightning begins much lower than that, while it’s easy to equip the Tesla Cybertruck or Rivian R1T so they’d be in the same financial bracket as this GMC Sierra EV. Before buying a new Sierra EV electric truck, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. We expect the Sierra EV to hold its value well relative to other electric vehicles. Remember, recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.
In Max Power mode, GMC says the Denali Edition 1 version has 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, enabling a standstill-to-60-mph time of just 4.5 seconds. That’s a lot of power and a sweet turn of speed.
Sure, the Tesla Cybertruck develops 845 hp and does that dash in about 2.6 seconds. The Rivian R1T Quad Motor has similarly impressive statistics. Does any of that really matter away from the drag strip, though? We don’t think so, and we reckon Sierra EV owners will discover plenty of entertainment value under their right foot.
GMC’s Denali models are always range-toppers with the most equipment and the marque’s highest levels of luxury. Unsurprisingly, the 2024 Sierra EV comes with an adaptive air suspension. We’ve experienced this in the near-identical Silverado EV — it’s especially comfortable. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel steering feature helps make the truck feel smaller than it is, contributing to both maneuverability and agility.
The maximum towing capacity of the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 electric truck is 10,000 pounds. That’s the same as the Ford F-150 Lightning with its extended-range battery and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST. The Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T are both rated at 11,000 pounds. For reference, the combustion Sierra 1500 can pull up to 13,200 pounds.
As for payload capacity, the 2024 Sierra EV can handle 1,450 pounds. That’s on the low side for this class of electric trucks (and much less than the gasoline Sierra 1500’s 2,270 pounds), but still a decent amount in the real world.
The new Sierra EV offers plenty of stowage and occupant space, along with the usual Denali luxury appointments of wood trim and leather upholstery. Like many electric vehicles, it also has a front trunk under the hood, offering a commodious 10.7 cubic feet of room.
We can see a bit of the usual GMC design approach around the headlights and the big initials on the nose (which are illuminated). However, the grille, or lack thereof, is a sign that this is not a regular combustion-powered Sierra 1500 but something more special. The 2024 Sierra EV electric truck comes solely as a crew cab model with a 71-inch bed.
Technology
The Denali Edition 1 version of the Sierra EV has a 16.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. That’s big. It’s oriented vertically, and a split-screen mode allows it to show three apps simultaneously. The driver has an 11-inch configurable digital instrument cluster plus a head-up display. If only the Sierra EV had Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but no dice.
Super Cruise
General Motors’ hands-free driving system works on more than 400,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada — and it’s compatible with a trailer. We’ve logged hundreds of reduced-effort Super Cruise miles and always look forward to more.
MultiPro Tailgate
Standard in this Denali Edition 1 model and wonderfully ingenious, it functions as a bed step into the bed, as a workbench, or as a load stop to hold long items in place.
MultiPro Midgate
With the MultiPro Midgate open and the tailgate in its load-stop setting, there are almost 11 feet of cargo length.
Power Station Pro
Electrical energy goes both ways in the 2024 Sierra EV. The Power Station Pro feature in this Denali Edition 1 provides up to 10.2 kilowatts to run things like power tools or campsite accessories. It can even charge another EV.
CrabWalk
This feature turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front, allowing the truck to move diagonally. It’s a neat trick first performed by the Hummer EV and now standard with the Denali Edition 1 model.
The new 2024 Sierra EV electric truck has an impressive maximum range of 440 miles. Looking at the competition, the Ford F-150 Lighting with an Extended Range battery can run for 320 miles, the Tesla Cybertruck’s maximum is 320 miles, and the Rivian R1T is rated at 410 miles.
Using an 800-volt DC fast charger, 100 miles of range can be uploaded in just 10 minutes. This rate compares well to that of Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian R1T.
GMC’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles, while the battery has its own warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers.
Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, plus a following distance indicator.
