Many new electric cars were designed from a blank computer screen and with this energy source in mind. The Electrified G80 is derived from the gasoline-powered G80 and adapted to suit. The operation has been successful. Almost everything we have to say about it is positive. We like how it looks, how it drives, and how fast it recharges.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of electric luxury cars, including the Genesis Electrified G80.
Genesis launched the Electrified G80 luxury sedan last year and debuted a more accessible version this time around. Called Advanced, it’s priced below the Prestige trim. Standard equipment still includes all-wheel drive, leather seating surfaces, and Wi-Fi. The company’s electric vehicles are now sold in 33 states, while new dedicated Genesis dealerships are popping up in greater numbers.
2024 Genesis Electrified G80 pricing starts at $36,200 for the Electrified G80 Advanced Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $75,625 when new. The range-topping 2024 Electrified G80 Advanced Sedan 4D starts at $36,200 today, originally priced from $75,625.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
Looking at the competition, the BMW i5 starts at $66.8K. The Mercedes-EQ EQE Sedan, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air all begin in the region of $75K. For bigger spenders, the Porsche Taycan kicks off at $91K. An all-new Audi A6 e-tron is also expected for 2024, priced at about $80K.
Before buying a new Electrified G80 luxury sedan, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Electrified G80 resale values are on par with the Mercedes-EQ EQE Sedan and are well above average among all-electric vehicles. Recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.
Two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and a meaty 365 horsepower work together to propel the Electrified G80 from a standstill to 60 mph in a rapid 4.1 seconds. Of course, it does this in near silence, so the sensation of speed is a little subdued. Our point, though, is that the Electrified G80 can be quick enough for decisive moves. It’s also superbly comfortable and stable, exactly what a luxury car needs to be. We even like the feel of the steering and brakes. Nothing here needs getting used to; it’s all easy to take in and appreciate.
For comparison, the BMW i5 eDrive40 (with just one motor and rear-wheel drive) makes do with 335 horsepower and is almost two seconds slower to 60 mph.
Regardless of trim, the maximum range covered by the 2024 Electrified G80 is 282 miles. That’s OK, but the most affordable BMW i5 can do 295 miles, and the Mercedes-EQ EQE sedan will cover 305 miles. The Tesla Model S and Lucid Air can go even farther, at a price, although the least expensive Model S is still capable of 405 miles, while the base Lucid Air Pure is rated at 419 miles. That said, we still never felt anxious about range when we drove the Electrified G80. It takes about 22 minutes for the battery to go from 10% capacity to 80% using a DC fast charger. That’s pretty much level with the best of the rest.
Just like each German luxury manufacturer has its particular approach to interior design, so does Genesis, which tends to go for the plusher side. The Electrified G80 has more than its fair share of fine leather, juxtaposed by cool technology with a generously sized 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen displaying graphics just as sharp as the leather feels soft.
Fitting an electric vehicle’s battery into a car designed originally for a combustion engine has affected rear passenger space and the trunk area, compared with the regular G80. It loses about two inches of headroom and three inches of legroom, so check at the dealership if 36.6 inches and 35.9 inches (respectively) are sufficient. The trunk shrinks by a couple of cubic feet to 10.8, which is less than a compact Honda Civic. If these are issues, we’ve found that the BMW i5 is more accommodating, and the Lucid Air’s rear quarters are exceptionally spacious. Some will be disappointed to learn Genesis doesn’t offer a moonroof with the Electrified G80.
There’s a Russian doll element to the styling of Genesis sedans — with many design cues repeated but in different sizes. However, to our eyes, the basic look is perfect for the class — upscale and handsome. It doesn’t emphasize its electric credentials. A keen observer will notice the different grille but not much else. This midsize luxury sedan has dimensions similar to the BMW i5 and Mercedes-EQ EQE Sedan.
One-pedal driving
Press the accelerator pedal to go, and lift to slow or stop as if you’re using the brakes. The brake pedal is there for when a quicker stop is necessary. It’s easy to get used to and easy to miss when it’s not there.
Highway Driving Assist
Keep an attentive hand on the wheel, and the Electrified G80 can just about drive itself in certain situations and within reason. We rate it among the best such systems on the market.
Lexicon audio
Go into any top-class recording studio anywhere in the world, and Lexicon equipment will be used. This 21-speaker/1,050-watt surround-sound system in the Electrified G80 makes it seem like you’re back in that studio again.
Remote Smart Parking Assist
Drivers can inch the Electrified G80 into or out of a parking space while standing outside and pressing a button on the key fob. Clever stuff and part of the Prestige trim’s equipment.
Blind-Spot View Monitor
This goes beyond the usual “red triangle in the side mirror” blind-spot monitoring and shows real-time video in the digital driver information display. It’s also in the Prestige’s standard inventory.
Solar roof
This optional roof-mounted panel of photovoltaic material can (according to Genesis) add about 700 miles of range a year.
Every Electrified G80 is energized by an 87.2-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery with a respectable peak charging rate of 187 kW. The Electrified G80 is rated to deliver 97 MPGe, which makes it slightly more efficient than comparable versions of the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE.
Genesis has some of the best warranties in the business. New-vehicle coverage lasts five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first, while powertrains and electric vehicle (EV) batteries are protected for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles is also included.
The highest accolade of Top Safety Pick+ has been awarded to the Electrified G80 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This electric version of the G80 hasn’t been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but the almost identical combustion counterpart took a maximum 5-Star overall score.

Annual Depreciation is an estimation of what your vehicle's value might be over time based on an average of similar vehicles. Estimations are calculated by comparing Kelley Blue Book Private Party Values of vehicles similar to yours over time, as well as forecasts from Manheim Auction data comparing current and projected auction values against current Kelley Blue Book Private Party and Trade-In Values. This is not a guarantee of actual depreciation. Local weather conditions, market factors and driver performance will also impact your vehicle's actual depreciation.

Blind-Spot View Monitor
This goes far beyond a warning light and instead shows a real-time view of the left or right side of the vehicle in the digital instrument cluster when the turn signal is activated.
Highway Driving Assist
This system can combine adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to take much of the stress out of freeway driving — even in stop-and-go traffic.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
This can save the Electrified G80’s — and your — back when reversing out of a parking space. If you’re in the path of an approaching vehicle, this system can stop the car to prevent a collision.
