The 2019 Ford F-150 remains the best-selling full-size pickup in America, and it doesn’t look like that’s set to change anytime soon. With longtime rivals Chevy, Ram and Toyota all vying for Ford’s loyal customer base, the F-150 manages to stay one step ahead by constantly innovating, expanding and improving. With its aluminum body, 10-speed automatic transmission and multiple high-tech driver assists, the F-150 continues to redefine what a pickup truck can be, offering models ranging from basic work truck to luxurious horse hauler. Ford offers a number of engine options, too, including a V6, V8, three EcoBoost turbocharged engines and even a turbodiesel. Ford’s 2019 F-150 also boasts the most horsepower in a half-ton pickup, along with best-in-class towing and hauling numbers.
2019 Ford F150 pricing starts at $16,019 for the F150 Super Cab XL Pickup 4D 8 ft, which had a starting MSRP of $35,505 when new. The range-topping 2019 F150 Super Cab Raptor Pickup 4D 5 1/2 ft starts at $38,382 today, originally priced from $55,235.

Opt for the base 3.3-liter V6 and you’ll end up with decent power for hauling and light towing coupled with good fuel economy. What you won’t get is an engine with the power to quickly pass, merge and blast off from a dead stop. The 5.0-liter V8 offers good power, but poor fuel economy. If you want the right engine for such a big truck, you’re going to want to go with either the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 or the 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbodiesel. These three engines offer superior abilities when it comes to towing, hauling, fuel economy and acceleration, and they really don’t push the F-150’s price all that much higher. As for ride and handling, you may be surprised such big trucks can be so responsive. The ride is smooth and stable, even with a loaded bed, and the F-150’s interior can be anything from comfortable cruiser to luxurious land yacht. Numerous electronic aids further assist with towing, braking and trailer control.
The 2019 F-150’s interior is rugged and attractive, but above all, it’s easy to use. There are numerous interior colors for 2019, and plenty of available cool features like 3-prong power outlets, adaptive cruise control that can bring the truck to a full stop, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, active park assist, and the ability to have the Sync 3 infotainment system read text messages to you while you drive. The SuperCrew (crew cab) is extremely roomy, with rear-seat legroom that bests some full-size sedans. Because the F-150’s floor is flat, even the dreaded middle rear seat is comfortable.
Ford’s full-size pickup continues to use a military-grade aluminum body, but that body was recently restyled to emulate the looks of the big-brother Super Duty lineup. Bold grilles, headlights and wheel designs help differentiate the different trim levels. Aside from the truck’s new look, much about the design was born from necessity. The tailgate is available with a pull-out step that makes it much easier to get into the bed to manage payload. There are also pop-out steps on the sides that help with the same purpose.
2.7-LITER ECOBOOST ENGINE
Don’t let the small displacement fool you; the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 offers up as much torque as the F-150’s 5.0-liter V8 engine, can tow up to 8,500 pounds and returns the best fuel economy of the gasoline engines.
TOWING-ASSIST SYSTEMS
Have problems parking with a trailer attached? Pro Trailer Backup Assist can handle the job. Using a view screen and control knob, the driver can input left or right commands while the F-150 handles the steering and brakes. A 360-degree camera can help when hitching a trailer to the ball, while a blind-spot monitor puts eyes where they are most needed.
The base-model F-150 is a regular-cab, 2-wheel-drive (2WD) XL, which comes with enough standard equipment that makes it possible to buy a decent truck to get work done at a reasonable price. Even trucks equipped with the 3.3-liter base engine and 6-speed automatic transmission come standard with auto start/stop, and all F-150s get the same ultra-strong hydroformed, fully boxed frame. Hill-start assist and Trailer Sway Control are standard, as are Curve Control, 17-inch wheels and air conditioning.
There are plenty of appealing upscale trim levels, including the King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. Available options make the interior luxury plush, such as heated leather front and rear seats (10-way-power, cooled and massaging front seats), Sync 3 and Bang & Olufsen Play or Sony audio systems. A variety of towing assist and safety systems is offered, as are adaptive cruise control and side steps that deploy when a door is opened and retract when the door closes. On the safety front, the 2019 Ford F-150 is offered with inflatable rear seatbelts and a blind-spot information system. Four-wheel drive (4WD) is available.
The 2019 Ford F-150 offers a choice of six engines, one of which is a new high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. The base engine is a 290-horsepower, 3.3-liter V6 — more powerful and more efficient than previous Ford V6s — and the only one in the line with a 6-speed automatic. The rest use a 10-speed automatic, including the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, with 400 lb-ft of torque and the best fuel economy of all the gas engines. The 5.0-liter V8 remains the same this year, as does the standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost. The 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel offers 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, more than any other diesel in this segment. The Limited and Raptor come with the aforementioned 450-horsepower High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost, both models capable of towing up to 13,200 pounds with the optional tow package.

Pre-Collision Assist w/Automatic Emergency Braking
Standard on all 2019 F-150s, this system will automatically apply the brakes to avoid (or reduce the severity of) an imminent frontal collision.
Trailer Sway Control
This system, also standard on all F-150s, can detect trailer sway when you’re towing. It will then selectively apply the truck’s brakes to bring the rig back under control.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
Standard on the Limited (and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Raptor), this system automatically maintains a gap to the vehicle ahead and brings the F-150 to a complete stop if necessary. Within three seconds of stopping, the truck can accelerate back to its preset speed.
