"I bought this van in Sept.08 and now just over a
year later it is still clicking right along with 195k
on the clock. No problems to report other than
normal maint. items, tires belt ,hoses, that I
replaced just to be on the safe side from previous owner. Had 176k when I picked it up
and I have used it to haul my dirt bike which
also fits inside and a mound of camping
supplies. It is now my new tent on wheels and
I have grown very attached to it even though
it looks like a dust buster with no handle.
The main thing that sold me on this buy was
that the previous owner took care of it and
that was obvious off the bat. The thing that
really blew me away was that everything worked, unlike some of the junk that I looked
at before. I just wish it was the extended model with the 4.0L and awd that would be
the frosting on the cake. At $800.00 I got
one of the best deals in a long time, glad I
didnt buy some ones hound dog. If you can
find one thats clean and looked after jump on
"I purchased the 4.0 XLT Extended AWD new in 1997 and recently traded it in for a smaller family vehicle since our children have grown. This by far has been the greatest vehicle that I have owned. The vehicle has a box look that provides excellent room. The original engine and transmission were sound even thought the vehicle had over 215,000 miles. Not a drop of oil on my concrete white driveway can be found. Since the vehicle is 12 years old and still runs well, the only flaw is the rust that developed on the floor near the doors. Excellent traction in the snow, 12 to 17 MPG average. I would by another tomorrow if Ford would build another."
"I got my '94 in 1996 after it had served as a florists' van. Only major problem was the AC went out. Other than that, all repairs have been minor. It uses a quart of oil every 1K miles, at which point the Check Engine light comes on to remind me!
I have hauled an entire household of stuff several times in this van (requiring many trips, of course). I have camped in it (no tent needed!). Without the seats, you can haul an amazing amount of stuff per vanload. Our riding mower drives up inside it! It is 48" wide inside between the wheel wells.
It was built on the F150 chassis of the time and has two steel Ibeams running the length of the vehicle. I was rear-ended HARD once and barely felt it! Safe safe safe.
Still seems to get about 24 mpg on the highway. Poor gas mileage around town though.
139,000 miles and my Ginger (her name) is still the best. My boyfriend's old Camry breaks down a lot and guess who serves as the backup vehicle? My Ginger--as reliable as I am!"
