Introduction
The Lexus NX is a well-equipped luxury compact SUV from Toyota’s prestige arm. Available in a variety of trims, the 2021 Lexus NX offers a balanced blend of comfort, standard safety features, and reliability in a luxury package.
Based on the same platform as the Toyota RAV4, the Lexus NX debuted as a sporty concept at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in 2014. Launching as a 2015 model, the Lexus NX joined its larger sibling, the RX, in the burgeoning SUV segment. It bridged the gap for those who needed a nimble vehicle with less space but still wanted to experience Lexus’ craftsmanship, eye-catching design, and technological sophistication. Buyers around the globe have selected the NX for its variety of options, competitive pricing, and elevated design.
The second-generation 2021 NX brings more of what buyers love about Lexus: a comfortable, well-outfitted ride, solid build, generous fuel economy, and competitive pricing. With a 235-horsepower gasoline-only engine in the NX 300 models and a 195-hp hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain in the NX 300h, Lexus offers a choice between sporty performance and ultra-efficiency, with both options full of luxury.

KBB Review Highlights
In a rapidly growing class with the Acura RDX, Cadillac XT4, and BMW X3, the 2021 Lexus NX is a luxury compact crossover with a sharp look, modern features, improved tech, and a plug-in hybrid option. The NX is a head-turner, holding on to Lexus’ signature hourglass grille and angular lines from its 2017 facelift. Dramatically styled, particularly if you have landed on one of the attention-grabbing paint colors, the 2021 NX reminds you that Lexus design can be fun, unexpected, and delightful.
A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 powers the drive of the NX, and the more efficient hybrid edition pairs an electric motor with a 2.5-liter inline-4. The drive between the two editions is comparable, with the gasoline-only version leaning slightly toward performance. Still, both versions excel in comfort and relaxed conveyance rather than long days at the track. Improved safety equipment and convenience features packaged neatly give the Lexus buyer a solid option with a pleasurable drive, regardless of trim and package.
The NX cabin is comfortable and calm. Lexus wraps the interior in saturated hues and elevated textures with easy-access buttons and soft-touch surfaces. An 8.25-inch information screen controlled by a central touchpad anchors the dash, and a series of buttons surrounds it and brightens the space. All NX models seat five with ease. Each NX has ambient LED lighting, low beams, and taillights. New for 2021, the power-folding and self-dimming side mirrors that enhance your experience come standard.
The 2021 Lexus NX arrives with one of the class’s most comprehensive safety and convenience suites. Keyless entry with push-button ignition, a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, satellite radio, Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and dual-zone climate control add to a package that is rounded out by the advanced features of the Lexus Safety 2.0+ system, even on the base NX 300 model.
As you climb through the six trims, additional features include packages and extra factory options. The options include wireless smartphone charging, rain-sensing wipers, hands-free tailgate operation, 18-inch alloy wheels, power-folding rear seats, heated/ventilated front seats, and leather upholstery. The Navigation Package adds a larger infotainment display, an enhanced app system, and a 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio package.
Of note is that the F Sport trim adds race-inspired tweaks like mounted paddle shifters, aluminum pedals, sport seating, and sport-tuned suspension. Meanwhile, the NX 300h includes all-wheel drive and a power-adjustable steering column as standard features. Also, for 2021, the Lexus NX 300h F Sport Black Line Edition arrives on the scene, sleekly dressed in black vegan leather, complete with its own collectible Zero Halliburton luggage set.
