Introduction

Kia fully redesigned its Sportage compact SUV for the 2023 model year. Before the remake, the Sportage was known for a long equipment list and a long warranty at an affordable price. The redesign kept those traits but made it one of the largest and most spacious compact SUVs, and brought it sharp new styling. It competes with roughly a dozen rivals, including the best-selling Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. The Kia Sportage brings some serious strengths to the table, including oodles of features, more cargo and rear seat space than most rivals, and Kia’s unbeatable warranties, including 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage (you get what remains of it with Kia’s CPO program).
Kia CPO Warranty Program Highlights
- Limited warranty: one year/12,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty: 10 years/100,000 miles
- Roadside assistance: 10 years/Unlimited miles

KBB Review Highlights
We were deeply impressed with the 2023 Kia Sportage and see it as an attractive value on the CPO market. It nearly encroaches on midsize SUV territory, which means plenty of cargo space and more rear legroom than most rivals. If you’re going to carry adults in the backseat, this is one of the best choices among compact vehicles. The driving experience is fairly refined. Power comes from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 187 horsepower — typical for this class. But it sends that power through an 8-speed automatic transmission rather than the continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) many competitors use, making power delivery steady and strong. It’s quieter than many similarly priced SUVs as well.

The 2023 Kia Sportage was built in seven trim levels: LX, EX, X-Line, SX, SX Prestige, X-Pro, and X-Pro Prestige. Most were available in front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD). Both X-Pro models are built for light off-roading, with standard AWD, all-terrain tires, and multi-terrain drive modes to adjust traction for different surfaces. Every model includes a pair of 12.3-inch screens mounted together in a single housing, so they look like one wide screen. The touchscreen in the center of the dashboard runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some 2023 Sportage SUVs include a wireless phone charging tray. Safety equipment in every 2023 Sportage includes forward collision assist with cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, and parking distance warnings. Some include an optional blind-spot view monitor, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and smart cruise control with stop-and-go capability.
