With simple-to-access technology and two performance trims, the Grand Cherokee stakes its claim as a category leader, straddling the line between premium and mass market. The 2021 Grand Cherokee continues to win converts due to its established reputation and solid chops on the road and off. New for 2021, the Grand Cherokee debuts a special 80th Anniversary Edition based on the Limited Trim and adds snazzy cosmetic enhancements and additional standard safety equipment to the lower trims.

Jeep debuted a 3-row SUV in 2021, the Grand Cherokee L, which we cover as a separate model.

KBB Review Highlights

Featuring an expansive lineup with seven main trims, four engines, and a host of upgrades and options, the 2021 Grand Cherokee aims to satisfy most 2-row midsize SUV buyers. It leans into the Grand Cherokee’s strengths, blending the grace of a large sedan and the capability of a truck with the comfort and space of an SUV.

From the collective responsible for the outstanding capability of the Wrangler and the delightful Hellcat, the Grand Cherokee arrives with four engine choices. Starting with the Laredo’s base 3.6-liter V6, the 2021 Grand Cherokee also offers a popular 5.7-liter V8, a 6.4-liter V8 that powers the SRT model, and a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine in the 707-horsepower Trackhawk. Each engine pairs well with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. V6 engines arrive with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and optional 4-wheel drive (4WD), and V8 models come with all-wheel drive (AWD).

Precise and lean, the 2021 Grand Cherokee handles well for a midsize SUV. Acceleration can be phenomenal, particularly in the performance-minded variants. Generous ground clearance, steel springs, and the optional Quadra-lift air suspension system make the unbeaten path your oyster, and time-tested AWD systems add a layer of confidence to driving the midsize mainstay.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit rear seats.

With two rows and five seats, the Grand Cherokee is comfortably appointed and well-outfitted, with more options as you climb the abundant trim lines. The seating is supportive, dressed in wipeable cloth or dreamy leather. Leg space between the first and second rows is limited, as is familiar with members of its class. Ample cargo space behind the rear seat, with 36.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat, is a boon for hauling gear and the things of life.

The Grand Cherokee looks familiar and comfortable, steeped in classic Jeep appeal. Ripe with American luxury, bold lines, a boxy shape, upscale textiles, and open spaces anchor the design. Simple badging and functional accents designate the trim line. A 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display rests in the center console of the front cabin.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are standard, as are blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additional features like heated and ventilated front seats, a powered sunroof, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a powered tailgate arrive in the upper trims. However, you can add some features as a la carte options. A comprehensive active driving and safety suite, including automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, adds to an enticing package.
