Introduction
Charming and petite, the 2021 Fiat 500x is a crossover with an Italian flair. Crafted in Melfi, Italy, at the Società Automobilistica Tecnologie Avanzate Plant for Stellantis, the Fiat 500X uses a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
Building on a legacy that started in 1899, the Fiat 500X debuted in 2014 at the Paris Motor Show and arrived later in 2016 for North American audiences. The small and wide compact SUV made a presence and added another option to the brand’s nimble and fun portfolio. Designed to give city drivers new levels of urban mobility, the 2021 Fiat 500x has undergone relatively few changes over the years and has a distinctly modern European look and feel. Due in part to inconsistent reliability and slower adoption of driver assistance technology, the Fiat 500X was the only Fiat on sale in the US in 2021.

KBB Review Highlights
Available in four models: Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus, the 2021 Fiat 500X is a subcompact crossover with a short wheelbase and turbocharged engine. Like its classmates, it doesn’t target agility and precision but instead focuses on efficiency and energy – targets that the Fiat 500X nearly meets.
At home in the city or suburbs, the 500x bears the iconic Fiat 500 styling. It is petite and compact with a bulbous SUV shape. Sharing a platform with the Jeep Renegade, the Fiat 500X leaves a small footprint but feels solid and well-dressed in quality textiles and high-touch plastics. Consistent with its class, rear passengers may find that leg space is a treasured commodity. It falls behind the HR-V, Crosstrek, and CX-30 with 14.1 cubic feet in the rear and 39.8 cubic feet with the 60/40-split seats folded flat.
Despite the off-road capability that “Trekking” implies, the 2021 Fiat 500X’s moderate ground clearance makes it ideal for more on-road, urban adventures and lightly scaled environments. Each of the four models uses the same 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. Unlike some of its peers, it employs a 9-speed automatic rather than a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Fuel economy is assisted by an intelligent feature in the standard all-wheel drive (AWD) that disengages the drive from the rear axle when unneeded. Averaging around 24-26 miles per gallon, the 2021 Fiat 500X helpfully consumes Regular 87-octane unleaded gasoline.
The 2021 Fiat 500x easily seats four (five in a pinch) and is decently equipped. The tech within is simple to use and equipped with Stellantis’ award-winning UConnect4 infotainment system. The base Pop trim includes AWD, knob-selectable drive modes, push-button start, fabric textiles, three USB-charging ports, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sport brings a fun, flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters and larger wheels.
Elevate to the top-of-the-line Trekking Plus trim, swap cloth seating for leather, and add front/rear parking sensors, a power-adjustable seat, cargo cover, native navigation, and an 8-speaker sound system. Each trim has several a-la-carte packages that add comfort and cosmetic enhancements, though they oddly refrain from adding advanced driver aids as standard features to the trim lineup.
