Introduction
Winner of multiple Kelley Blue Book EV Best Buy Awards, this generation Hyundai Kona Electric was a top choice in its class. First launched in 2019, the 2023 model marked the end of its first generation. Updates for 2023 included a new introductory SE trim and more standard equipment for the SEL trim. A combination of size, comfort, range, practicality, and value still makes the 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric easy to recommend. The 5-seater is available in three trims with varying degrees of luxury and the sporty, electrified looks that Kona buyers know and love. The battery-powered Hyundai Kona Electric excels in its class, offering a range of 258 miles.
Notably, this electric SUV was only sold in 12 states when it was new. The availability of CPO models near you will vary depending on your location.

KBB Review Highlights
The 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric is a subcompact crossover electric vehicle (EV) that combines a playful blend of style and value-added features. It arrives on the same platform as the Best Buy Award-winning gas-powered Kona.
The 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric has an eager spirit and peppy performance with a boost of pure electric power. The magic trick is achieved by replacing the Kona’s gasoline engine with a battery pack and electric motor. It benefits from the same suspension improvements introduced for 2022, which enhance the ride and handling. The subcompact crossover’s distinctive looks echo the fun and versatility of the gas-powered Kona. With Hyundai’s fantastic warranty and extremely usable electric range, the Kona Electric is a strong competitor to its class rivals, which include the Kia Niro EV and Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Buyers can choose from three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. All are front-wheel drive (FWD) only. Each one uses a 64-kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that delivers around 258 miles of range, with 201 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. The result is a zippy drive. It feels anchored and solid due to the weight and undercarriage placement of the battery pack.
The newly introduced entry-level SE trim comes with heated cloth seats, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, and proximity keyless entry with push-button start. SEL now comes standard with the previously optional Convenience Package, which includes a larger 10.3-inch touchscreen, a power sunroof, Digital Key, and wireless smartphone charging. In the Limited, you’ll find even more features, including leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and Harman Kardon audio. A unique quirk of the screens, however, is that only the base 8-inch screen received Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The upgraded 10.3-inch screen requires a cable for phone projection.
Buyers of the 2023 Kona Electric can expect the EV to charge up to around 80% capacity in less than an hour at a DC fast charging station. No question, the 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric is a stellar package, priding itself on usable driving range and relatively sporty compact car dynamics.
