Electric vehicle prices are more competitive than ever, drawing more potential buyers to consider adding an EV to their garage. The 2024 Tesla Model Y SUV sits atop the EV world in terms of sales, enjoying a significant advantage over its competitors. Tesla brought the EV to the mainstream, forcing the rest of the automotive world to catch up. Jaguar was one of the first mainstream luxury brands to rise to the occasion with its own premium EV; the sleek I-Pace actually hit the market a year before the Model Y.
The Tesla Model Y and Jaguar I-Pace draw plenty of interested looks, so let’s check out why.
2024 Tesla Model Y
The 2024 Tesla Model Y is the best-selling EV in the U.S. — and the world. And it’s not just the world’s best-selling EV; last year it ranked as the world’s most produced car, period.
The Model Y electric SUV is a nice place to be, with a simple exterior and uncluttered, clean interior. Most models seat up to five, but an optional third row increases total seating capacity to seven. It also features a slew of safety and convenience technologies, i.e., Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, so any trip in a Model Y is an exciting proposition.
Perhaps the best part of Tesla Model Y ownership is the access to the company’s Supercharger network. With nearly 2,000 stations in the U.S. and more than 21,850 charging ports, ensuring you have a reliable place to charge in public is a virtual certainty. Range, meanwhile, is up to 320 miles. Prices start at $46,380, including destination charges.
Tesla Model Y Highlights
Supercharging: With nearly 22,000 Supercharger ports across the U.S., range anxiety isn’t an issue. If you forget to plug your Model Y in at home one night, finding a place to charge quickly — you can add 175 miles of range in about 15 minutes — isn’t a problem.
Semi-autonomous driving: Autopilot bundles features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Enhanced Autopilot adds Navigate on Autopilot, automatic lane-changing, automated parking, and Smart Summon. Finally, Full Self-Driving Capability adds Autosteer on city streets and automatic stop-and-go at traffic lights and stop signs.
Lots of space: The Tesla Model Y can be had with a third-row seat. It’s probably not going to get used much, but if you need to transport a couple of extra little humans, you’ll be up to the task.

2024 Jaguar I-Pace
The Jaguar I-Pace received just a few updates for 2024, including the “grille” changing from black to Atlas Grey. Fortunately, the SUV’s exterior styling is aggressive yet clean, making it very attractive.
It comes in just one trim level, the R-Dynamic HSE, which makes selecting options relatively straightforward. While on the topic of limited options, the I-Pace comes with just one powertrain, but it’s a doozy: the dual motor setup develops 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque while making all-wheel drive standard. The result is a 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.5 seconds — not too shabby. Range maxes out at just 246 miles, though.
The cabin features a slew of high-quality materials and technology, including a 12.3-inch digital driver information display and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. The available space is good but not class-leading. Prices start at $73,875, including destination charges.
Jaguar I-Pace Highlights
Superior sound: An 825-watt/17-speaker sound system from renown audio company Meridian is standard in the 2024 I-Pace. This is much fancier than the standard audio system in the Tesla Model Y.
ClearSight: Part of the optional Driver Intelligence Pack, this replaces the conventional rearview mirror with a display. A camera provides a clear image of what’s behind the vehicle without rear pillars, cargo, or passengers’ heads getting in the way.
Great seats: The I-Pace offers great handling. Jaguar engineers astutely developed performance-oriented front seats to ensure the driver is held firmly in place while putting the SUV through its paces.

Similarities
The Tesla Model Y and Jaguar I-Pace offer attractive exterior styling, a spacious cabin, and a slew of class-leading technology.
Conclusion
On the surface, this seems a good comparison, but the Tesla Model Y enjoys a significantly lower price tag than the Jaguar I-Pace. This is before any potential tax advantages the U.S.-built Model Y enjoys that the non-U.S.-built I-Pace does not. Even the top Performance model is priced considerably lower than the Jag. We like the Jaguar I-Pace, but the Tesla Model Y is the better buy.
