This is not the brand-new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse. This is the Limited, otherwise known as the previous-generation Traverse. Chevrolet debuts a new-generation Traverse this year, yet decided to continue selling the outgoing model at the same time. This is that outgoing model. The reason why it’s now called Limited hints at its availability — sales will last for a short time only.
Fortunately, we have plenty of experience with the Traverse Limited before it gained the second part of its name. We’ve always appreciated its spaciousness, smooth ride, quiet cabin, and muscular V6 engine. A great number of our owner reviews say the same thing.
This (second) generation of Traverse launched for 2018. Six years is a long time in the automotive world these days, especially from a technology standpoint. But for buyers out there who want something with a track record instead of the newest thing, the Traverse Limited gets the basics right.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of 3-row midsize SUVs, including what is now known as the Chevrolet Traverse Limited.
The whole point of the 2024 Traverse Limited is that it’s not new. Except for the “Limited” part.
2024 Chevrolet Traverse Limited pricing starts at $27,600 for the Traverse Limited LS Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $35,915 when new. The range-topping 2024 Traverse Limited High Country Sport Utility 4D starts at $44,400 today, originally priced from $55,595.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Limited models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The Traverse Limited (in pre-Limited guise) hasn’t enjoyed the same kind of strong resale values as the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander (The Grand Highlander is new for 2024). It trails the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade as well.
No hybrids or turbos, but the Traverse Limited has a strong 3.6-liter V6 making 310 horsepower, more than most rivals. It propels this midsize 3-row SUV with a confident thrust. The suspension is tuned for keeping the family comfortable, but it’s not overly soft. Active noise cancellation helps keep the cabin hushed while on the move.
Front-wheel-drive versions of the Traverse Limited achieve 21 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Subtract one mile per gallon with all-wheel drive. The Honda Pilot is thriftier to the tune of 22 mpg combined, the Toyota Highlander manages 24 mpg combined (these are both for front-wheel drive).
We’re expecting seating for eight to be standard in the base trim. The rest of the lineup should have accommodations for seven, although eight seats may be optional in the second trim. The difference is a pair of captain’s chairs in the second row taking the place of a 3-position bench seat.
Despite the occasional piece of cheap plastic, the Traverse Limited has a pleasant cabin in general. This is one of the few midsize 3-row SUVs that has sufficient space for adults to sit in the rearmost row without too much grumbling. Legroom back there is 33.5 inches, with 38.4 inches in the second row. Headroom is great throughout.
Cargo space is another Traverse strength, going from 23 cubic feet to a massive 98.2 cubic feet with rows two and three folded. This is one of the roomiest family haulers in its class.
There’s a good reason why the Traverse Limited SUV is so spacious inside — it’s big on the outside. A whisker over 17 feet long, about the same as most minivans. So we recommend getting a version with rear parking sensors, at least.
Wireless AppleCarPlay/Android Auto
Although smartphone integration is common, this more convenient and standard wireless version means being able to leave the phone in a purse or jacket pocket.
Rearview camera mirror
Optional in the base trim (and recommended, considering rearward vision is somewhat limited in the Traverse SUV) and standard higher up, the rearview camera mirror is really a small video display showing a clear image without anything or anyone behind the driver impeding vision.
Standard driver assistance features
Admittedly, we couldn’t recommend a family vehicle that didn’t have things like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection, but it’s reassuring to know they’re on board.
Safety Alert Seat
A vibrating driver’s seat warns of potential hazards in the most basic way. This is standard in the two highest trims.
All-wheel drive
Taking the family up to the ski slopes can be handled more easily when you’ve got all four wheels shouldering the load. It’s optional in the Traverse Limited.
A solid 3.6-liter V6 developing 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque without the aid of turbochargers or superchargers sits in the engine bay of the Traverse Limited. Front-wheel drive is the standard setup, with all-wheel drive offered as an option at every trim level. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed automatic. And maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
Chevrolet’s bumper-to-bumper warranty for its new vehicles lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These are usual arrangements for the class. The first service is also free, which isn’t so usual.
This generation of Traverse scored an adequate four out of five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Most of the competition goes one star better. Standard driver assistance features are quite comprehensive, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
