"We are the original buyers of the '93 G20 5.7 v8 van and from the beginning it has been nothing but fantastic! It has a conversion package which gives us 6 captains chairs and a large bench seat that turns into a queen sized bed if necessary or just folds flat if you need to haul plywood, drywall etc.. Theres a nice storage area under the bench seat and behind it. It also came with a TV and VCR to entertain the kids while driving around town - not to common with auto makers back in '93!! but in was a HUGE hit in our house! The rear air and multi disc changer also saved our bacon on several occaisons. The mechanics of the van have been incredible!! We'e only had to replace one gasket and have had to have some air-conditioner work - less than $3000 engine work in 15+ yrs. This big heavy van has had to have the brakes and rotors done more often than a regular car, but thats to be expected. But mechanically, you just can't ask for a better vehicle! There are a total of six captains chairs in you count the dirver and front passenger and everyone has equal access to air vents with the rear-air option. I really can't say enough about this van - it's my favorite vehicle in the house!!!"

"We have had this van since it was brand new and had to do no Major repairs. The onley expensive repair was replacing the fuel pump twice. Other than that it has been very reliable. We also have a 1998 Ford cargo van with fewer miles and the Chevy is preferred by all our employes. It is abundant with power and a very nice driving vehicle. The transmission finally went at 220,000 miles but I will propably have it repaired becuse the motor is still as strong as ever."

Pros: "Comfortable, reliable, stable, cheap"

Cons: "Cheap interior, absymal mpg"

Likely to recommend this car? (1-10): 10

"I've had my van for 14years. It is a 1994 light-duty G30 standard wheelbase, 5.7 liter V8, 4L60E transmission and no A/C. This van's engine and transmission lasted me 100k, and I bought it with 178k of hard service miles. With regular oil changes, chassis lubes, and yearly tune-ups, the G-series will serve you faithfully. They are very cheap to acquire and maintain. When buying one, be sure to look for evidence of the windshield seal leaking. If you spot rust stains on the interior side of the firewall, or soggy carpet, that is usually the cause. Repair will be around $1k if you have it done right. The front suspension on G30s needs a good shakedown every 10 years, depending on how gentle you are with the van. MPG with payload varies, but it's around 12mpg combined average. I don't mind at all, because new Sprinter/Transit work vans cost $35,000... Not to mention they can't touch the G-series reliability. I put a new engine and trans in mine recently. Looks like I'm set for the next 25 years. I've installed various factory options to make the van more livable. This thing is a tank and I love it. Best investment you can make in a work van. As sure as the sun rises, my van will be there when I need it."
