The Blazer’s core powertrain is a 228-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on every trim.
The turbocharged 4-cylinder suits the Blazer’s weight, delivering a zero-to-60-mph time just over six seconds and plenty of passing power.
Steering feels well weighted, and while no midsize SUV is a sports car, the Blazer corners with more confidence than most, and the braking inspires trust. The suspension strikes a sweet balance, being soft enough for comfort, yet firm enough to stay composed in quick corners.
The Blazer’s cabin is quiet, though not quite luxury-vehicle quiet, thanks to active noise cancellation, which does an admirable job on wind and road noise.
The available V6 is an option only with the RS trim. It transforms the Blazer from sporty to genuinely quick. The bigger engine is certainly a worthy upgrade for some, but most buyers will be happy with the 4-cylinder.
Fuel Economy
EPA ratings for front-wheel-drive, 4-cylinder Blazers: 22 mpg city/29 highway/25 combined. All-wheel drive drops those figures to 22/27/24.
The V6 reduces efficiency, but not too much: front-wheel drive gets 19/26/22, and all-wheel drive nets 18/26/21.

Many new models merge multiple screens into one wide panel, but we like Chevy’s split setup. It keeps everything visible and easy to reach, and your hands don’t block your view of important information.
Chevy may have retired the Camaro, but its design DNA lives on here. Turbine-style vents add flair, and RS trims tint them to match interior accents.
Rear-seat space beats the Chevy Equinox, with standout legroom. Sunroof-equipped models offer better headroom than many rivals, which is handy if you’re hauling adults or taller teens often.
Our main gripe? Cargo space. At 30.5 cu ft behind the second row, the Blazer ranks near the bottom of its class. Fold the seats and there’s plenty of space, but most competitors offer more room with seats up.

Chevrolet gives Blazer buyers two engine choices, both paired with a 9-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available with either engine.
The 228-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder is the volume seller and the right pick for most. It delivers easy cruising and solid fuel economy without breaking a sweat.
Want more punch? The 308-hp V6 is your ticket. It costs more and sips a bit more fuel, so it’s best for those who value speed enough to accept the tradeoffs.
<h3>3-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Chevy’s coverage is typical for a mainstream brand. The bumper-to-bumper warranty runs three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. The powertrain gets five years or 60,000 miles. Scheduled maintenance is covered for the first year, but don’t weigh that heavily, as modern cars need little service early on, so the savings are minimal.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings">NHTSA</a>) gave the 2025 Blazer its top overall score of 5 Stars, and the 2026 model is essentially identical, so it should also fare well. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/">IIHS</a>) hasn’t fully tested the latest models yet, but the mechanically identical 2024 earned “Good” marks.

The Kia Sorento PHEV is a safe and practical 3-row family SUV that can travel up to 31 miles on electricity alone.

The Kia Sorento PHEV is propelled by a 261-horsepower plug-in hybrid setup employing a 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD). Although it has a bit more muscle than the regular Sorento Hybrid (34 more horses, 12 more lb-ft of torque), acceleration is similar due to the weight of the larger battery.
Even so, zipping from a standstill to 60 mph in about 8.6 seconds is quick enough for confident highway merging and passing. In our experience, it feels lively from behind the wheel. Should potential buyers think they need more thrust, the Mazda CX-90 PHEV develops 323 hp and hits 60 mph at least two seconds sooner.
In electric driving, the Sorento PHEV accelerates smoothly and quietly. In hybrid mode, power delivery and braking feel aren’t quite as steady and seamless as we’ve experienced in the 2-row <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/rav4-plug-in-hybrid/">Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid</a>, but that’s a high bar. Overall, we’ve found the Sorento PHEV responsive around town and comfortable on the highway.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Sorento PHEV can run for 31 miles using just electricity. When the battery is depleted, it achieves 33 mpg in combined city/highway driving. That’s pretty good, but the regular Sorento Hybrid, which doesn’t plug in, gets 37 combined mpg with front-wheel drive (FWD) and 34 combined mpg with all-wheel drive.
Whether the Sorento PHEV brings significant fuel savings compared to the Sorento Hybrid depends on how often you use the gas engine. According to EPA estimates, the PHEV only saves you about $20/month compared to the conventional all-wheel-drive hybrid, but your fuel costs can vary greatly with driving habits and the costs of energy and gas in your area.
Another thing to consider is the total range, if that’s important to you. With a full battery and a full tank of gas, the Sorento PHEV goes 440 miles, while the Sorento Hybrid traverses 637 miles with a full gas tank.

Modern Exterior

We like the contemporary aesthetic of the Kia Sorento PHEV, which looks rugged without going overboard. This year, the SX Prestige trim gets the X-Line appearance package, which adds stylish black wheels and black exterior accents.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
Cable-free phone integration is standard in both Sorento PHEV trims, and we love the convenience and tidiness of this feature. Wireless charging is also on board.
Infotainment system 
The standard 12.3-inch display in the Sorento PHEV is feature-rich and user-friendly. The SX Prestige takes the tech to the next level with a curved display, adding a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
Smart Power Tailgate 
Imagine walking up to your locked Sorento PHEV, hands full of shopping, kids, accordions, whatever. Stand by the smart tailgate for three seconds (while having the key in a pocket or purse) and it will open automatically, then close with the touch of a button. It’s a standard item and, again, we’re all for making life easier.
Smart Cruise Control 
More than adaptive cruise control, machine learning means it can adapt to and emulate driving styles. We’ve found it to feel quite natural.
Highway Driving Assist 2 
Installed in the SX Prestige trim, this helps alleviate the fatigue of long freeway stretches by keeping the Sorento Hybrid in its lane, maintaining a safe distance to the vehicle in front, and assisting with lane-changing maneuvers. Stay alert; you still have to keep a hand on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
Blind-Spot View Monitor 
This SX Prestige feature shows real-time video in the driver information display, with more detail than regular blind-spot monitoring can convey. In our opinion, greater awareness of surroundings can only be a good thing.

3-Row Interior

We like the Sorento PHEV’s generally pleasant cabin, with its fine materials and well-placed controls. The simulated leather seating surfaces in the EX feel sufficiently premium, while the higher SX Prestige trim offers genuine leather.
The cabin&#8217;s centerpiece is a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The SX Prestige gains a dual 12.3-inch setup in a single curved unit, the other screen serving as a digital instrument cluster. We&#8217;ve consistently praised Kia’s infotainment system for its quality graphics, modern features, and user-friendly controls, and the Sorento PHEV&#8217;s screen is no exception.
As with the standard Sorento Hybrid, this year the Sorento PHEV offers a bench seat in the second row, which means total seating for up to seven people. Second-row captain’s chairs are now optional on the EX trim and remain standard in the SX Premium. This setup reduces total seating capacity to six, but captain&#8217;s chairs are more comfortable than a 3-across bench seat, and they make the third row easier to access.
Passenger space is generous in the first two rows, with plenty of legroom and headroom. The third row is a kids-only zone, though, with just 29.6 inches of legroom. If you plan to use the third row on a regular basis, we highly recommend looking into the larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/telluride/">Kia Telluride</a> or the electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/ev9/">Kia EV9</a>.
Cargo space is tight when all three rows are in place, only 12.6 cubic feet behind the rearmost seats. This opens out to 38.5 cubic feet behind row two when they’re folded. With rows two and three down, there’s an ample 75.5 cubic feet. This cargo volume is very similar to that of the Mazda CX-90 PHEV.

The Kia Sorento is one of the few SUVs from a mass-market brand that’s available with a regular gas engine, a conventional hybrid powertrain, or a plug-in hybrid arrangement. When there&#8217;s juice in the battery, the Sorento PHEV has the highest efficiency rating of the bunch. It’s capable of traveling up to 31 miles on electricity alone, making it great for anyone who can benefit from 3-row seating but doesn’t travel very far very often. When those longer trips do come up, this SUV is still impressively efficient and comfortable. The 2026 Sorento PHEV employs a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and two electric motors to create an ample 261 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. This thrust goes through a 6-speed automatic transmission to a standard all-wheel-drive system.

Kia has some of the best warranties. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first, including roadside assistance. Powertrains are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) has named the Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick, the agency’s second-highest accolade. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian/cyclist detection, and junction turning assistance.

The 2026 Kia Sorento PHEV adds the X-Line appearance package with black wheels and blacked-out exterior trim on the top SX Prestige trim. Also, all all-wheel-drive-equipped models of both the HEV and PHEV now come with a Terrain drive mode. Another update is a standard charging cable that works for both Level 1 and Level 2 charging.

The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 227-horsepower hybrid turbo 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
We’re impressed by the lively acceleration of the Sorento Hybrid, which is noticeably quicker than the non-hybrid with its base engine. We’ve found that it’s well-suited for running around town yet gets up to freeway speeds quickly enough. Even overtaking moves are carried out with hardly any effort.
The suspension, steering, and braking all contribute to a comfortable and competent driving experience. The Sorento Hybrid is so smooth and quiet, in fact, that we almost forgot it was a hybrid while we were testing it. The transition from electric power to the gasoline engine joining in is just seamless.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Kia Sorento Hybrid gets up to 37 city/36 highway/37 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 32 city/35 highway/34 combined mpg with all-wheel drive. These ratings are about the same as other hybrids in this class, like the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid and Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
For reference, the non-hybrid Kia Sorento returns up to 23 city/31 highway/26 combined mpg. According to <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a> estimates, the fuel savings of the hybrid versus the non-hybrid amount to approximately $45/month.

We&#8217;ve consistently praised Kia’s infotainment system for its quality graphics, modern features, and user-friendly controls, and the Sorento Hybrid’s screen is no exception.
A welcome update to the 2026 Kia Sorento is the introduction of a bench second-row seat, giving the standard configuration seven seats. Second-row captain’s chairs, which make the second row more comfortable and the third row easier to access, are optional on EX and standard on SX Prestige.
Passenger space is generous in the first two rows, with plenty of legroom and headroom. The third row is a kids-only zone, though, with just 29.6 inches of legroom. If you plan to use the third row on a regular basis, we highly recommend looking into the larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/telluride/">Kia Telluride</a> or the electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/ev9/">Kia EV9</a>.
Cargo space is tight when all three rows are in place &#8212; only 12.6 cubic feet behind the rearmost seats. This opens out to 38.5 cubic feet behind row two when they’re folded. With rows two and three down, there’s an ample 75.5 cubic feet. We should point out that the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is more capacious in all three respects. At least these dimensions are the same as the non-hybrid Sorento, so there’s no compromise here in choosing this more fuel-efficient model.

Hybrid powertrains are becoming increasingly popular options in midsize SUVs, and one that’s been around for a while now is the Kia Sorento Hybrid. Still fresh from a makeover in 2025, the 2026 model gets even better, with an increased seating capacity of up to seven. Meanwhile, it gets the basics right, like good fuel economy (up to 37 mpg), class-leading warranty coverage, and great safety ratings that families demand. The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid employs a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors to create a total of 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This goes through a 6-speed automatic transmission to either the front wheels — the standard configuration in the EX — or all four, which is optional with the EX or standard in the top SX Prestige trim.

Kia has some of the best warranties. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is five years or 60,000 miles, whichever happens first — this includes roadside assistance. Powertrains are covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

The Kia Sorento has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), the agency’s second-highest accolade. It also scored the top 5-Star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, plus junction turning assistance.

The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid has a redesigned steering wheel and a newly standard second-row bench seat. That means it can now seat up to seven people. A 6-seat setup with second-row captain’s chairs is still optional.
Another update is the X-Line appearance package with black wheels and blacked-out exterior trim on the top SX Prestige trim. Also, all-wheel-drive-equipped models now come with a Terrain drive mode.

The 2026 Volkswagen Jetta is powered by a 158-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) and hybrid powertrains are increasingly popular options in this class, but the Jetta is still front-wheel-drive-only with no hybrid option.
Thanks to ample torque at low rpm, the Jetta is noticeably quicker than most contemporaries, capable of dashing to 60 mph in about seven seconds. Once in motion, you’ll find the Jetta’s European roots make it one of the most enjoyable compacts in the class, bolstered by taut steering, adept cornering, and strong brakes. As a driver’s car, the Jetta checks all the right boxes, delivering a firm yet comfortable ride around town or the occasional trip further afield.
The value proposition of the Jetta has always been German driving dynamics at a more attainable price point than a luxury car, and this humble yet fun VW continues to uphold that reputation.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Volkswagen Jetta returns 29 city/40 highway/33 combined mpg, which is good for a non-hybrid. However, if low fuel costs are a high priority, the hybrid options of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic-hybrid/">Honda Civic</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-hybrid/">Toyota Corolla</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/elantra-hybrid/">Hyundai Elantra</a> are more frugal.

Subtle Exterior

The Volkswagen Jetta has never been known for radical or daring style, and this remains the case with the 2026 model. Last year’s refresh helped to keep it fresh, but it retains a subtle and restrained style that we appreciate.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
A new perk for 2026 is standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on every trim of the Jetta. This makes it effortless to connect your phone to the screen in the car.
15-watt wireless charging 
The Jetta used to have a 5-watt wireless charging pad, but it’s been upgraded to 15 watts for faster charging speeds without needing to plug in.
Digital Cockpit 
The lower four trims have an 8-inch instrument cluster, while the SEL model has a customizable 10.25-inch setup. From our perspective, both add the feeling of driving a more expensive sedan.
IQ.Drive 
This system includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, emergency stop assistance (automatic transmission only), and adaptive cruise control.
Climatronic 
This is Volkswagen’s fancy name for dual-zone automatic climate control. It comes standard in every Jetta, which isn’t always the case for compact cars at this price point.
Volkswagen Premium Audio 
The available Volkswagen Premium Audio upgrade features eight speakers and is a significant upgrade over the standard four-speaker system. This rich sound system is standard on the SEL trim.

Sophisticated Interior

A distinctly European flavor distinguishes the Volkswagen Jetta from the competition. Its driver-focused cabin has supportive front seats, an 8-inch display angled toward the driver, and ergonomically friendly controls. However, we could do with more physical buttons, knobs, and switches rather than the sometimes-frustrating haptic controls for the HVAC. At least it has a volume knob, which not all VW models do.
Interior space is generous for a compact car. Rear passengers won’t complain; they have 37.4 inches of legroom, which is on the better side of this class. As for cargo space, the Jetta&#8217;s 14.1-cubic-foot trunk is on par with the segment.

The pleasure of driving a European automobile is often associated with pricey luxury cars, but the Volkswagen Jetta remains a delightfully accessible ticket into the world of German cars. The Jetta is priced competitively with the hot sellers in this class, but brings an air of class to the smartly designed and high-tech interior. Although its performance specs are par for the course on paper, its taut handling and lively acceleration make it a little more rewarding to drive than the average compact sedan. Although these numbers are about average for an affordable compact, the Jetta is pretty torquey low in the rev range, making it more fun to drive than its modest specs imply.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Volkswagen’s basic and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles. That’s better than the typical 3-year/36,000-mile new-vehicle warranty but not as good as the more common 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage. VW includes roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles, plus free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles.
<h3>Safety</h3>
In crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>), the Jetta scored a maximum 5-Star overall rating. The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) attained similar results, awarding the Jetta the top mark of &#8220;Good&#8221; in the small overlap front crash test and &#8220;Acceptable&#8221; in the side crash test.

Following a refresh for 2025, Volkswagen is a little more generous with standard features in the 2026 Jetta. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard on every trim, the SE model gets a standard sunroof, and the SEL trim has a standard 8-speaker premium audio system.
