The original Acura RSX was an attractive sport coupe built from the 2002 to 2006 model years, but the 2026 Acura RSX is reinventing the nameplate in the form of an all-electric premium SUV. The RSX will be the second electric vehicle from the Acura brand after the ZDX, but it will be Honda’s first independently developed EV.
In fact, the upcoming RSX electric SUV will have some cutting-edge technology seeing its first application in a production Honda, including the new ASIMO OS operating system Honda showed at this year’s CES. The 2026 RSX will also be the first EV produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.
Details on the new RSX are scarce at the moment, but it’s due to enter production later in 2025, so it won’t be too long before more information is available.

Power, Ride, and Handling

The Corolla Cross Hybrid makes 196 horsepower, which is enough muscle to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in just over seven seconds. That’s more than acceptable for an SUV in this class, and in our extended testing of this vehicle we came to especially appreciate the electric portion of the hybrid gas-electric powertrain. The Corolla Cross Hybrid just always seemed to have something extra to give thanks to the extra propulsion of those electrons.
Over the years, Toyota has achieved plenty of success by making its vehicles one less thing for owners to think about on the school run or the commute, getting the job done without any fuss. The Corolla Cross Hybrid SUV is like that — easy to drive, if not especially athletic. The ride is comfortable. The cabin is mostly quiet, but we agree with some of our consumer reviews that more sound insulation would be welcome.
Fuel Economy
In combined (mixed city and highway) driving, the Corolla Cross Hybrid achieves 42 mpg. For context, check out the combustion-only Corolla Cross with all-wheel drive, which returns 30 mpg combined. Driving 15,000 miles a year, this hybrid model will use about 142 fewer gallons of gas. That’s a saving of $461, assuming the price of gas is $3.25 a gallon. By the way, the Kia Niro Hybrid delivers between 49 and 53 mpg, depending on the trim level, but it doesn&#8217;t have all-wheel drive.

Fetching Exterior

There’s a bit of a scaled-down <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/rav4/">RAV4</a> look to the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid. Its new face with a bolder grille projects a more capable attitude. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is lower and shorter than the RAV4 Hybrid, which should make parking even easier. Yet the Corolla Cross Hybrid can still emphasize the utility in “sport utility vehicle.”
Toyota has also taken steps to distinguish this hybrid from its conventional counterpart. The designs at the front and rear are slightly different, 18-inch alloy wheels are available, and the SE and XSE offer two-tone paint jobs. These involve Sonic Silver, Cavalry Blue, or Acidic Blast (a kind of greenish gold) with a black roof.

Our Favorite Features And Tech

Hybrid power 
It makes so much sense to enhance a gasoline engine with an electric motor. It provides more thrust while maximizing fuel economy. A win-win situation. Toyota was a pioneer and now a master of hybrid systems.
All-wheel drive 
All-wheel drive is a useful asset in rough weather, and every Corolla Cross Hybrid variant is fitted with it.
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
The ability to integrate a phone into the infotainment system and use apps like Waze is made even better by not needing to get said phone out of a pocket or purse. This is standard across the range. We also appreciate not fussing with cables.
Toyota Safety System 3.0 
This is Toyota’s collective term for a set of advanced driver assistance features that come as standard in every new Corolla Cross Hybrid SUV. As well as the now common forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, there’s adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, pedestrian and motorcycle detection, plus intersection assistance.
Rear Seat Reminder 
If a pet, child, or Aunt Lucy has been mistakenly left in the back seat while the driver is just about to lock up and walk away (no judgement, there’s a lot going on these days) this handy and standard feature will provide the necessary alert.
Integrated Streaming 
A Wi-Fi subscription includes this feature, where Apple Music and Amazon Music customers can bring their accounts into the Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Good Enough Interior

Yes, there are the special hybrid-related graphics available on the display, showing drivers how and where the energy is flowing at any given moment. But the cabin of the Corolla Cross Hybrid stays mainly within the typical Toyota boundaries of acceptable design and workable ergonomics.
The particular attributes of the Corolla Cross Hybrid include a raised driving position and decent rear headroom. We like the front seats in particular — they’re comfortable and well-shaped.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel comes in at the SE trim level, which is where we would start. Sound insulation seems better here than in the less-expensive S. It also adds blind-spot monitoring to its list of standard equipment.
One minor disappointment is that rear legroom (32 inches) starts to become tight once passengers get over 5 feet tall. The Niro, for instance, provides nearly 40 inches. Cargo space could be sufficient compensation. Behind the rear seats is an area of 21.5 cubic feet, enough for a few golf bags. With the second row folded, the storage increases to 44 cubic feet. However, here the Niro also bests the Corolla Cross Hybrid with 22.8/63.7 cubic-feet.

Riding on the same foundation as the venerable Corolla, the Corolla Cross Hybrid delivers affordability, reliability, and utility in a wonderfully gas-stingy package. It’s just the right size for storming urban frontiers and squeezing into parking spots that give larger vehicles nightmares. We also like its raised seating position and standard all-wheel drive. Moreover, it’s loaded with standard advanced technology, including a swarm of active safety features.

For the modest upcharge, we’d pick the SE over the S because of the volume of extras it has on its standard features list. For example, LED projector headlights, turn signals integrated into the outboard mirrors, two additional USB-C ports, wireless smartphone charging, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more are standard additions on the SE. Oh, and the SE is more popular with buyers.
Looking at potential rivals, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/niro/">Kia Niro</a> Hybrid starts at about $2,000 less but isn&#8217;t available with all-wheel drive. The larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/tucson-hybrid/">Hyundai Tucson Hybrid</a> has all-wheel drive as standard, with prices beginning at about $4,000 more than the Corolla Cross Hybrid. The non-hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-cross/">Corolla Cross</a> starts at roughly $4,300 less. However, when the gasoline-only Corolla Cross is equipped with all-wheel drive — which is standard on the Corolla Cross Hybrid — the price gap narrows. We think the Corolla Cross Hybrid in general is a terrific value.

Toyota vehicles tend to be among the strongest performers in terms of resale values. And remember, the more value retained means the more you have to put down on your next vehicle.

Engine & Transmission

Although there’s a hybrid version of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla/">Corolla</a> compact sedan, it doesn’t have the same powertrain as this Corolla Cross Hybrid subcompact SUV. The differences are more power in the Corolla Cross Hybrid — 196 horsepower, as opposed to the sedan’s 138 hp — and the Corolla Cross Hybrid has all-wheel drive as standard. An automatic transmission of the continuously variable kind powers the wheels. For the sake of comparison, at 139 hp, the Niro&#8217;s output doesn&#8217;t come close.
The Corolla Cross Hybrid doesn&#8217;t have a conventional all-wheel-drive system with driveshafts, locking differentials, and so on. Instead, a dedicated electric motor turns the rear wheels. This setup is also more muscular than the gasoline-only Corolla Cross (which has 169 horsepower). Toyota doesn’t provide total torque figures for its hybrid vehicles, but it feels like a healthy amount from the driver’s seat.
Maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.
3-year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Toyota’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These are typical among mainstream manufacturers. Hybrid batteries have their own warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles. Toyota also provides free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles.
Safety Ratings
The Corolla Cross Hybrid is still awaiting full scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, every 2026 Corolla Cross model comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It includes automatic forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, high-beam assist, and adaptive cruise control.

What's new for 2026

Benefiting from a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-toyota-corolla-cross-gets-facelift/">mid-cycle refresh</a>, the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid sports a new front fascia with a body-colored grille. Cavalry Blue is a fresh paint color now available and can be mated with a contrasting black roof on the SE and XSE trims. Inside, a modestly updated front center console is standard across all three trim levels. <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/">Toyota</a> is making a 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen available, too. Gone is the Nightshade trim level.

A competitive subcompact SUV, the 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross is practical, safe, and affordable.

Motivating the Corolla Cross is 169 horsepower from a 4-cylinder engine. It takes more than nine seconds to accelerate (if that’s the right word) from a standstill to 60 mph. The Mazda CX-30 has 191 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in about eight seconds, which is hardly fast, but still one of the sprightlier members of its class.
This combination of a so-so engine and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) will dull the glint in any enthusiast’s eye. Moreover, we think the restart action of the fuel-saving engine off/on feature could be sweeter. That said, most prospective owners won’t care about such quibbles.
The same easy demeanor found in many Toyota vehicles is the main attribute when sitting behind the wheel of a Corolla Cross subcompact SUV. We’ve found that the effort required is minimal. It rides higher than its sedan namesake, giving that elevated driving position loved by so many. And the ride quality is more than acceptable. When all-wheel drive is fitted, the rear suspension has a more sophisticated multilink setup instead of the standard torsion beam arrangement, bringing ride and handling advantages. However, it does rob some cargo room.
Fuel Economy
That shortage of muscle does have an upside. With standard front-wheel drive (FWD), the Corolla Cross achieves 32 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Factor in all-wheel drive, and that figure drops by 2 mpg. That latter figure is still one mile per gallon better than the Mazda CX-30 (non-turbo, all-wheel drive). Honda HR-V owners will also have slightly higher fuel bills, getting a combined 28 mpg (front-wheel drive) or 27 mpg (all-wheel drive).

Attractive Wrapper

The 2026 refresh brings with it a somewhat more compelling nose with a bolder grille signature.
Otherwise, the curb appeal is conservative enough to please most of the people most of the time. The Corolla Cross SUV is about 5 inches shorter than the RAV4 and a couple of inches lower. Therefore, it’s large enough to be practical yet easy to park. It also offers 8.1 inches of ground clearance, more than most subcompact SUVs.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
As well as the convenience of integrating a phone with the infotainment system, the wireless aspect means the added benefit of not needing to remove said phone from a pocket or purse. This is standard throughout the lineup. We like that a 10.5-inch touchscreen is now available for controlling the infotainment system
Safety 
Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and motorcycle detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, intersection assistance, and adaptive cruise control.
Connected services 
We appreciate the convenience of having functions like remote start/lock/unlock, vehicle health reports, and SOS assistance at our fingertips. They can be controlled by a smartphone app or even a smartwatch. Some subscriptions are free for 12 months, and Wi-Fi comes with a 3-month subscription plus an Integrated Streaming feature for Apple Music and Amazon Music. Not all trims offer all services, however.
All-wheel drive 
We certainly aren’t in the minority when we say that all-wheel drive is great when the weather gets rough. It’s available as an option with every Corolla Cross trim level.
Rear-Seat Reminder 
If you open and close a rear door before getting on your way, the Corolla Cross can remind you to check back there when you reach your destination. We found that it’s handy for remembering a gym bag but invaluable for reminding of much more precious cargo.
Proactive Driving Assist 
A standard part of the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system, this feature subtly yet adeptly aids everyday driving. For example, when switched on, it can provide gentle braking as you go into a curve or approach another vehicle or pedestrian.

Unassuming Interior

The dashboard of the Corolla Cross SUV is tidy and functional, with seats that are adequately comfortable. In our test of the prior base L trim, we found that it relied too heavily on unattractive plastics, however. There are four cup holders, or six in the XLE. This top trim also has a rear center armrest and a cargo cover, things that really ought to be standard across the range. Rear legroom is below average for the segment at 32 inches, but that&#8217;s about the only measurement in which the Corolla Cross falls a bit short. Otherwise, its accommodations are about average for the segment.
We&#8217;ve found the Corolla Cross front quarters plenty roomy, while it offers more cargo room than most competitors. There&#8217;s up to 26.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place, and that room grows significantly more generous (46.9 cubic feet) when the rear seats are folded.

For Toyota-philes who find the Corolla a bit short on cargo room, the Corolla Cross subcompact SUV is the ideal, budget-minded alternative. We like it for its cargo-swallowing capability, solid fuel economy, better-than-average resale value, and that Toyota reliability.

For the $2,500 or so difference, we&#8217;d pick the LE trim over the base L because it adds goodies like automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, and much more. The three trim levels of the Corolla Cross all sell equally well.
In size and price, the Corolla Cross slots beneath the RAV4 in <a href="http://www.kbb.com/toyota/">Toyota</a>’s venerable SUV lineup. So, if you want a Toyota that’s a little bigger, it’s the RAV4.
Looking at the strongest rivals, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/hr-v/">Honda HR-V</a>  and the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/seltos/">Kia Seltos</a> usually cost between $500 and $1,000 more than the Corolla Cross. You&#8217;ll need to pony up another $2,000 or so for the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/subaru/crosstrek/">Subaru Crosstrek</a>, while the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-30/">Mazda CX-30</a> will set you back about $1,000; however, the Subaru and Mazda come with all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard. For reference, we expect the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-cross-hybrid/">Corolla Cross Hybrid</a> to start at about $4,500 more than its non-hybrid sibling.

The Corolla Cross SUV has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. Although we haven’t been particularly kind to the overall performance of the Corolla Cross, its horsepower stands up pretty well against its rivals. Safety Ratings
The Corolla Cross has yet to receive full ratings in testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, every 2026 Corolla Cross model comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It includes automatic forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, high-beam assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Toyota is calling 2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-toyota-corolla-cross-gets-facelift/">the midcycle refresh</a> for the Corolla Cross that launched in 2022. The updates aren’t sweeping but there are a few enhancements beyond the usual wheel and paint color swaps. For example, the front fascia is new and includes a bolder, more rugged grille. A new center console and an available larger 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen are the list of interior updates. And about the paint color choices, Cavalry Blue is added to the exterior palette of the LE and XLE.

The 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid makes a benchmark compact SUV even better with higher fuel efficiency and more power.

Since it has hybrid in its name, you would expect the CR-V Hybrid to be more efficient than its gas-only sibling (and it is), but the icing on this electrified cake is that it’s more powerful, too. Thanks to the pairing of both gasoline and electrons, the 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid makes 204 hp, versus the 190 hp in gas-only models. That’s less than the 226 hp of the forthcoming 2026 Toyota RAV4, the 231 hp of the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, 227 hp of the Kia Sportage Hybrid, and 219 hp of the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid. But with numbers this close, it feels like quibbling.
The takeaway is that the Honda CR-V Hybrid feels confident in every situation and, numbers aside, many of our editors simply prefer the way the CR-V drives and handles. In our testing, which has involved hundreds — well, probably thousands — of miles, we’ve found it a satisfying and easygoing partner, whether running errands around town or trekking for hours on end on the highway.
In the latter situation, we especially appreciate Honda’s easy-to-set and easy-to-use adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. The system is part of the Honda Sensing suite, and works smoothly and easily. We also appreciate the CR-V’s excellent visibility and comfortable seats.
Fuel Economy
The CR-V Hybrid is among the most fuel-efficient compact SUVs on the market. With front-wheel drive, it delivers 40 mpg in combined city/highway driving or 37 mpg with all-wheel drive. Still, the Kia Sportage Hybrid edges those numbers with 43 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 38 mpg with all-wheel drive. The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Mazda CX-50 Hybrid, which have all-wheel drive standard, both hit 38 mpg combined.
Hybrid Fuel Savings
At 15,000 miles a year, a front-wheel-drive CR-V Hybrid will use 10 fewer gallons a month than its gasoline-only counterpart. Even at $3 per gallon, that’s a savings of $30 every month. Looking at a full 5-year buy/drive/sell ownership cycle, those savings would more than make up for the hybrid’s relatively nominal price premium. The hybrid also requires about 10 fewer trips to the gas station each year.

Confident Exterior

There’s a maturity to the exterior design of this latest generation of CR-V. As there should be, considering this is the sixth iteration of it. But where previous models tried to be the most anonymous thing in the parking lot, there’s now greater presence, in a tasteful way. Some of the subtler touches include a wide and upright windshield, contributing to excellent outward vision.
The most visually interesting trim in the CR-V Hybrid is the new TrailSport. Meant to evoke a more rugged image, the new CR-V Hybrid TrailSport has a unique front fascia and what Honda calls a &#8220;skid garnish&#8221; (if not a traditional plate); all-terrain tires; blacked out spoiler, door handles, and other bits; and orange TrailSport badges on the front and back. We especially like the Ash Green exterior color exclusive to this model.

Our Favorite Features and Tech

Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
Phone integration is rather ubiquitous at this point, but that hasn’t dulled its appeal. For 2026, we appreciate that it’s now wireless across the board.
Wireless charging 
Another feature that is now standard on every 2026 CR-V Hybrid model. You won’t believe how convenient this is until you use it, especially those instances when your phone is low on juice.
Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock 
Standard on all CR-V Hybrid trims, we’ve found this self-locking/unlocking function both convenient and comforting.
All-wheel drive 
For buyers living in areas where the weather gets rough, we’d say all-wheel drive is worth the extra money for the added reassurance. It’s standard on the TrailSport and Sport Touring trims and optional on the others.
Digital instrument cluster 
The new 10.2-inch digital instrument display brings a welcome dash of innovation to the CR-V Hybrid’s cabin, and makes it easy to see a lot of information at once. It’s standard on all but the Sport trim.
Efficiency 
It’s the reason you buy a hybrid. The fact that you can get 40 mpg combined in such a modern, technically advanced SUV as the CR-V still brings a smile to our face — especially as we drive past all those gas stations.

Spacious, Smart Interior

The CR-V treats the driver and front passenger to what Honda calls &#8220;body-stabilizing seats,&#8221; designed to promote ideal posture and reduce fatigue. We’ve found that they indeed feel comfortable, supportive, and fine for long stints. The rear seats treat occupants to 41 inches of legroom — downright expansive for a compact SUV.
We’re happy to see a bigger touchscreen standard as part of the CR-V Hybrid’s update for the 2026 model year. The 9-inch touchscreen keeps the CR-V competitive, but still can’t match the standard 12.3-inch displays of the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, or the available 12.9-inch in the 2026 RAV4. The CR-V Hybrid also has a 7-inch digital instrument cluster on Sport trims, while the TrailSport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring models get a new 10.2-inch unit.
Behind the rear seats of the CR-V Hybrid, there is an impressive 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space. With the rear seats folded down, the maximum volume is 76.5 cubic feet; that&#8217;s as good as this compact SUV class gets, and even more, considering this is a hybrid with a battery pack to hide.

As our top-ranked compact SUV, we’ve found much to love about the Honda CR-V, from its easygoing manners and roomy interior to a record of reliability and high resale value earned over not just years but decades. Endowing Honda’s best-selling model with a gas-electric powertrain only makes it better. Remember how we compared the Honda CR-V to a golden retriever? That carries over to its driving experience. To break down the furry analogy, we mean that the Honda CR-V simply pleases no matter the situation. Yes, there are other SUVs that are faster, more engaging, and more off-road-worthy. But few — perhaps none, even — just do the everyday stuff as well, as easily, and as courteously as the CR-V.
We’ve found the CR-V’s powertrain is responsive, its steering and braking inputs natural, and its overall driving manners are comfortable and easygoing. Visibility is good, power is adequate, and even its continuously variable automatic transmission is near the top in not feeling like the droning CVTs of yore.
Fuel Economy
A 2026 Honda CR-V with front-wheel drive achieves 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Opting for all-wheel drive hardly makes a dent, costing just one mpg for 29 combined. For those seeking even higher fuel efficiency, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/cr-v-hybrid/">CR-V Hybrid</a> can manage an impressive 40 mpg combined (and it’s quicker).

There’s a maturity to the exterior design of this latest-gen CR-V. As there should be, considering this is the sixth iteration of it. The L of EX-L signifies leather seating surfaces, and that top model is also blessed with a power tailgate, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and upgraded 8-speaker audio system.
Behind the rear seats is a substantial 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space — visibly more than, say, the Mazda CX-50. Our backs have also appreciated how the cargo floor is set conveniently low. With the rear seats folded down, maximum volume is 76.5 cubic feet, as good as this compact SUV class gets.

The Honda CR-V is a shining example of what happens when an already excellent vehicle only strives to improve upon itself. Year after year, decade after decade, Honda’s best-selling model has done just that.
