The 2026 Hyundai Palisade is powered by a 329-horsepower turbocharged hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
The driving experience of the Palisade Hybrid is swift, smooth, and quiet. A hushed cabin is something we love about Hyundai&#8217;s EVs, and this hybrid SUV shares a similarly serene atmosphere. The hybrid system delivers confident and effortless acceleration, which comes in handy if the Palisade is full of passengers. Handling, steering, and braking are fairly predictable for a 3-row SUV, which means it prioritizes straight-line comfort over corner-carving agility.
This hybrid powertrain is just plain better than the V6 in the non-hybrid Palisade. Granted, there&#8217;s something satisfying and reassuring about the grunt of a V6, but the hybrid offers more horsepower, more torque, and better fuel economy. It&#8217;s easy to recommend if your budget allows it. The advantages of the V6 are that it&#8217;s slightly cheaper and can tow an additional 1,000 pounds.

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid is rated at 33 city/35 highway/34 combined mpg with front-wheel drive in trims with &#8220;Blue&#8221; in their name. Upper front-wheel-drive trims return 31 city/32 highway/31 combined mpg. All all-wheel drive models get 29 city/30 highway/29 combined mpg.
For reference, the V6-powered Palisade gets up to 21 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 20 combined mpg with all-wheel drive. As for the Palisade Hybrid&#8217;s closest rival, the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid gets 36 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 34 mpg with all-wheel drive.

When we first climbed into the cabin of the all-new 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, we instantly noticed a family resemblance to the brand’s flagship EV, the Hyundai Ioniq 9. This is a good thing. The seats are comfortable, the materials are lovely in the Calligraphy trim, and the technology is cutting-edge. It gets the basics right with the dual 12.3-inch displays that have become commonplace in Hyundai models, while adding perks like 100-watt USB-C ports and available reclining seats for some passengers.
We never cared for the gearshift buttons in the Palisade, and the new model replaces those with a steering column shifter that turns like an old-fashioned key for shifting into drive and reverse. As for climate controls, they’re handled through a dedicated screen that’s user-friendly thanks to a thoughtfully designed center console with a spot to rest your wrist while using the controls.
The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid has grown in size compared to the first-generation Palisade, resulting in more space inside. The third row of seats and the cargo area are both a little bigger than they were in the outgoing model. What Hyundai calls a “reimagined third row” includes available power sliding and reclining third-row seats, USB-C ports on both sides, and bigger windows, yielding better visibility for the passengers and the driver. We tried sliding the third-row seats all the way back and were impressed that there was still decent cargo space behind them.
Speaking of cargo space, there’s 19.1 cubic feet behind the third row, 46.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and 86.7 cubic feet when all of the rear seats are folded down. As for leg room, there’s 41.4 inches in the second row and 32.1 inches in the third row. Notably, the hybrid has slightly less second-row legroom than the non-hybrid Palisade because the hybrid&#8217;s battery is packaged underneath the front passenger seat. These interior dimensions are on the bigger side of the midsize SUV class, but the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is roomier still.

You could&#8217;ve called the Hyundai Palisade the rookie of the year when it first arrived on the scene in 2020. It was as good as, or better than, well-established veterans in the competitive class of 3-row <a target="_blank" rel="noopener">midsize SUVs</a>, and it has been one of our favorites in its class ever since. Now, the Palisade has gotten even better for 2026, entering its second generation. The first-ever Hyundai Palisade Hybrid (netting up to 34 combined mpg) is part of the redesign, and a non-hybrid version (<a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/palisade/2026/">reviewed separately</a>) is still available. Bigger and Bolder SUV Bod

The second-generation Kia Telluride stretches out 2.3 inches longer and has a significantly longer wheelbase, estimated to be nearly three inches longer than its predecessor. It looks bigger in every aspect. Vertical amber running lights complemented by vertical taillights bookend Kia’s flagship SUV. Big and broad shoulders frame a clean body with flush door handles that pop out when you approach, similar to Kia’s EV9. At the top of each wheel arch is a garnish, like a keystone in an arch. An X-Pro model slaps recovery hooks on the front and rear, and rides on all-terrain tires that help boost its ground clearance.

Hybrid powertrain 
At this point, Kia has all but confirmed that the new Telluride will get the same powertrain options as the redesigned 2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/palisade/">Hyundai Palisade</a>. The Palisade has a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 287 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, as well as a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and a two-electric-motor motor hybrid system rated at 329 hp. It promises to be more powerful and more efficient, but Kia hasn&#8217;t detailed specs as of press time. Expect front-wheel drive (FWD) to be standard, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available as an option.
Dual 12.3-inch displays 
Kia&#8217;s twin 12.3-inch displays curve toward the driver, keeping the tech interface modern without overwhelming the cabin. In other Kia models that utilize this setup, the interface and user experience surpass the competition in terms of ease of use and functionality. Yet there are buttons and toggles for temperature and fan speed, which we prefer.
Wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay 
These essential smartphone connectivity features make it effortless to bring your maps, music, and more to the screen in the car without having to take your phone out of your purse or pocket. We expect them to come standard.
Clever storage designs 
Migrating the gear shifter from the console to the steering column created a significant amount of space. In addition to two wireless device chargers and ample room for cupholders, the console storage area under the armrest converts into a drawer that can be opened from the back, allowing rear-seat passengers to stow and access items easily. It&#8217;s a small but thoughtful detail to keep clutter to a minimum in a family car.
X-Pro trim&#8217;s off-road look 
Kia showcased its X-Pro off-road trim, replete with all-terrain tires, two tow hooks on the front and rear, and standard roof rails. The knobby tires help boost the ground clearance to 9.1 inches. It remains to be seen if a tow hitch will come standard or if there will be any mechanical upgrades.
3rd row roominess 
The longer body and wheelbase enable room to fit two adults in the third row. Three kids could fit fine back there for carpool duty, but even on longer road trips, two kids could fit in back in comfort, thanks to good natural light, built-in cupholders, and USB ports.

Roomy and Refined Interior

A wide, low dash that reflects the exterior design creates a spacious feeling inside. Design materials include faux wood and metallic trim, with ambient lighting coloring the dash, door pockets, and console recesses.
An octagonal steering wheel with an open top half extends that premium feel. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster runs into a 12.3-inch touchscreen that curves toward the driver. Below it are slender horizontal vents and a thin bar of climate toggles that limit reliance on the touchscreen.

The Telluride no longer has a mechanical gear shifter located in the center console between the driver and passenger seats. Kia introduced an electric shifter and relocated it to the steering column, similar to its EVs. It opens up space in the center console to fit up to two wireless device chargers, as well as collapsible cupholders. Grab handles frame the console, giving it a truck-like feel.
The console holds a deep storage bin that opens up to rear passengers as well, similar to the 2026 Hyundai Palisade.
Due to the longer wheelbase, rear passengers are treated to more space in both 7-seat and 8-seat configurations. The available second-row captain’s chairs have buttons on the seat top that even toddler hands could press to tilt and slide the seat forward for easy access to the third row.

The third-row bench is big enough to accommodate two average-sized adults, with decent headroom and legroom, though the toeroom can be cramped. Large rear quarter windows let in plenty of natural light, so it doesn’t feel claustrophobic back there. Cupholders and USB ports on either side keep the rearmost passengers comfy and connected.
Getting out is as easy as a button push, or the aisle is wide enough to get out if you don’t want to slide the seat. We’re told that child safety seats can remain in place when shifting the captain’s chairs forward.

The redesigned 2027 Kia Telluride aims to capitalize on what made the first-generation Telluride so popular: Range Rover-like looks with value pricing. When Kia&#8217;s largest vehicle first launched in 2020, it wowed audiences, earning KBB&#8217;s <a href="https://www.kbb.com/awards/best-buy-awards-2025-kia-telluride-midsize-suv/">Best Buy Award</a> in its class for nearly every year through 2025. The three-row SUV skips the 2026 model year as Kia redesigned it to make it longer, roomier, and more rugged. Also, we expect a hybrid option to be available.

What's new for 2027

The second-generation Kia Telluride wears a boxier, broader skin on its square shoulders. Vertical headlights and taillights bookend the boxy SUV, but the biggest changes happen inside. Twin digital displays star in a new cockpit optimized for space. Kia ditched the mechanical gear shifter for an electronic one housed on the steering column instead of in the console. That opens up clever storage options and a more airy, spacious interior for passengers and cargo. We expect the base engine to remain a V6, but a new hybrid system that is both more powerful and more efficient is expected to be optional.

With a single electric motor, the 2026 Equinox EV sends 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. That’s enough pep for average acceleration, taking about 8 seconds to reach 60 mph, right in line with acceleration times for the average gas-powered compact SUV. With the Equinox EV, however, there’s no raucous engine noise, transmission whine, or vibration — just quiet, smooth transport. We love this about EVs in general, and think you will, too.
For those who desire quicker acceleration and better grip, the all-wheel-drive option adds a second electric motor, increases output to a potent 300 hp, and bumps torque out to 355 lb-ft. With this potent setup, the all-wheel-drive Equinox EV can do the zero-to-60 mph dash in less than 6 seconds — quite fast, for sure.
Over long stretches of highway, we found the Equinox EV’s ride to be smooth and comfortable. Due to the added weight of the large battery pack, however, the Equinox requires a more robust suspension that can be less forgiving when encountering rough or pothole-strewn pavement. But not so much that it rattled anyone’s teeth. We think the Equinox’s big 21-inch wheel and tire combo — optional on the LT models, standard on the RS — also contributes to the SUV’s firm ride. The lower trims come with 19-inch wheels and tires, a combination that usually returns a softer ride.
The Equinox EV’s low center of gravity, heavy battery pack, and wide platform all contribute to a feeling of stability. We found the steering feel to be light with communicative feedback.
One-pedal driving is unique to EVs, and Equinox’s system works seamlessly. Trusting the system takes some time, but if you feel deceleration isn’t happening fast enough, you can increase brake force pressure via a steering wheel-mounted paddle. And, of course, there’s always the traditional brake pedal.
Range and Charging
The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV has a maximum range of 319 miles for front-wheel-drive models. All-wheel-drive variants can go up to 307 miles. These ranges are impressive and highly competitive among electric SUVs, especially considering the Equinox EV’s lower price point.
For comparison, the Ford Mustang Mach-E will do 320 miles, the Kia EV6 up to 319 miles, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 maxes out at 318. According to Tesla, the pricier Model Y is good for up to an EPA-estimated 357 miles, but at the time of this writing, the EPA has yet to confirm that figure.
Using a DC fast charger, the Equinox EV can add 77 miles of range in 10 minutes and charge up to 150 kW. That lags rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, but should still be serviceable for most drivers. A Level 2 home charger supplies the Equinox EV with up to 34 miles of range every hour, or about 9 hours to reach a full charge. The Equinox EV offers a NACS adaptor for use at Tesla Supercharger stations and the growing number of charging stations using that standard.

Attractive Exterior

LED technology allows car designers to use thinner and thinner headlights. The ones on the new Equinox EV have merely become each end of an across-the-nose strip. We think this gives the front a certain attitude that makes the SUV profile and tail a little more interesting. LT models offer the option of a contrasting white roof; the RS versions can be ordered with a black roof.
Although there’s also a Chevy Equinox SUV with a combustion engine, it’s not built on the same platform as this Equinox EV. The Equinox EV is about 7 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its gasoline-powered namesake. Overall, we think the Equinox EV has sleek, stylish looks that will attract a lot of buyers.

Infotainment system 
This Google-based system includes a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen as standard, which dwarfs some luxury brand screen sizes.
Super Cruise 
This is one of the best (of only a few, admittedly) hands-free partial self-driving systems we’ve come across. It works on more than 400,000 miles of North American roads preprogrammed into the navigation system. It’s available starting with the LT 2 trim.
Safety Alert Seat 
We all use our eyes and ears to perceive possible hazards, but Chevrolet’s standard Safety Alert Seat alerts the driver’s nether regions by vibrating the lower cushion whenever the vehicle’s sensors pick up on impending peril.
One-pedal driving 
Many electric vehicles have this feature, where speeding up or slowing to a complete stop can be accomplished by varying the pressure on the accelerator pedal. It’s achieved by setting brake energy regeneration levels to maximum. Negotiating city traffic becomes less tiring — only urgent stops necessitate stepping on the brake pedal. It’s another standard feature in the 2026 Equinox EV.
Hands-free tailgate operation 
It is not at the cutting edge of electric vehicle tech, but it is wonderfully convenient, nevertheless. It’s standard on the upper two trims.
Rear camera mirror 
It looks like a regular rearview mirror, but this option can also show the feed from a wide-angle camera, so drivers can see what’s behind without the clutter of cargo, passengers, or bodywork. It’s available beginning on the LT 2 trim.

Contemporary Cabin

Chevrolet describes the interior of the Equinox EV as “streamlined.” We’d call it neatly contemporary. The most impressive feature is the massive 17.7-inch touchscreen, the same one found in the big Chevy Silverado EV electric truck. The screen graphics are clear and easy to decipher, and the menus are simple without too many layers. We also love how quickly the touchscreen responds when prompted.
Accompanying the infotainment system is Google built-in, which handles all your navigation, texting, apps, and voice control needs. But you should be aware that GM locks out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for EVs with this system, a decision that doesn’t apply to its gas-fueled models. We do applaud GM for retaining a redundant set of hard buttons and knobs for the climate controls.
While testing at night, we were pleasantly surprised by GM’s clever use of light as a design element, most notably in the multicolored ambient panels above the glovebox and behind the door panels.
We found much to like inside the Equinox EV’s roomy cabin. There’s 38 inches of legroom for the rear seat, which is comparable to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but not quite as generous as in the Tesla Model Y. With the rear seats folded down, there’s a maximum of 57 cubic feet of cargo volume, on par with the Ioniq 5, but way short of the Model Y’s 76 cubic feet.

There are now many all-electric compact SUVs to choose from, and the Chevrolet Equinox EV is among the most alluring. As one of the newest models, it brings all the latest tech and features you’d expect, but its real X factor is this EV’s combination of low price and high range. The 2026 Equinox EV remains among the most affordable electric compact SUVs, at least in base form, while boasting among the best range figures among its competitors: 319 miles.
Add to that this model’s svelte style and practical interior, and the Chevrolet Equinox EV makes a compelling competitor to rivals like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y, Toyota bZ, and Nissan Ariya.

With its mid-$30K starting price, the 2025 Equinox EV is among the least-expensive electric vehicles you can buy. The Chevrolet Equinox EV uses an 85 kWh battery pack. It returns up to 109 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) for front-wheel-drive models and 103 MPGe for those with all-wheel drive. Those are similar to others in this class. The higher the MPGe rating, the more efficiently the motors use electricity.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Chevrolet’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical among mainstream manufacturers, although Hyundai and Kia offer better terms. The battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. Chevrolet includes five years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance, plus a free first service within one year or 12,000 miles.
Safety
The Chevrolet Equinox EV earns a top 5-Star crash-test rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Most CX-50 buyers get the base engine, which is good for 187 horsepower. That’s the same as a Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, three shy of the non-hybrid Honda CR-V, and a few more than the Chevrolet Equinox. In other words, it’s typical for this class. We think it’s sufficient for most situations. Whether cruising highways or slugging it out in heavy city traffic, we’ve found the CX-50 adapts well, delivering smooth, consistent performance. And if you’ve ever driven a Mazda, you know these vehicles have a more fun, athletic-leaning nature than other vehicles. The CX-50 is no exception. We also like that the CX-50 comes with all-wheel drive standard. This provides enhanced traction on slick and dry roads alike. For those who want to venture off-road, or at least a bit further off pavement, there’s an off-road mode and an available towing mode to best make use of the CX-50’s 3,500-pound max tow capacity.
If you want more fervor in your CX-50, look to a turbo model. It boosts the fun factor with 227 hp — or up to 256 hp when fed 93 octane gas.
Fuel Economy
Keeping in mind that the CX-50 comes with all-wheel drive as standard and most of its rivals don’t, it still lands close to the middle of its class. The non-turbo engine achieves 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving. That’s just one mpg less than the Subaru Forester (another contender with standard all-wheel drive). The CX-50’s turbocharged engine manages 25 mpg combined.
If you prioritize fuel economy and want a CX-50, check out the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid, which earns 38 mpg combined and has more power than the base engine in the standard CX-50.

Rugged Aesthetics

There’s no mistaking a Mazda for anything else. The longish hood and short overhangs provide the CX-50 with a rakish, sporty look. Yet as the more outdoorsy sibling to the more road-oriented CX-5, the CX-50 features rugged design elements like black fender cladding. Meridian Edition models, which for 2026 can be had with the non-turbo engine, amplify the message with 18-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tires and black roof rails.

i-Activ all-wheel drive 
This standard system can predict when wheelspin will occur and respond almost immediately, sending power where it’s needed most.
Mi-Drive 
Also known as Intelligent Drive Select, Mi-Drive lets the CX-50 driver choose from Normal, Sport, and Off-Road modes. In Sport, responses are sharpened. For example, the transmission doesn’t upshift automatically when lifting off the throttle, keeping the engine ready for acceleration action.
Dual-zone automatic climate control 
A set-it-and-forget-it system, dividing the CX-50 into left and right regions, each with separate temperature settings. Once set, the system maintains the preset temperatures automatically. It comes standard in the CX-50.
Driver assistance technologies 
Mazda includes an array of safety tech like adaptive cruise control, emergency forward braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and driver-attention monitor.
Head-up display 
This available color display projects vital information onto the windshield just below the driver’s line of sight. It’s designed to help drivers keep their eyes on the road. This feature is more common in luxury vehicles, so we’re pleased to see it in a mainstream model.
Bose audio 
Available in Premium and Premium Plus trims, this 12-speaker system features Bose Centerpoint and AudioPilot technologies for an immersive listening experience.

Upscale, Practical Interior

Mazda designs some of the best-looking interiors among mainstream brands. Despite its premium vibe, the CX-50’s 2-row/5-passenger cabin furthers the impression that this all-wheel-drive SUV is no wallflower. Hosing out the interior is a no-no — it’s not that type of rugged — but the quality of the craftsmanship more than makes up for it. If you’ve been pining for a white interior color choice in addition to the gray, tan, black, and brown hues on offer, Mazda has heard you — even that lighter color is available for 2026. And if you’re one who loves to let the outdoors in, a panoramic moonroof is available — always a nice option to have.
As for spaciousness, although the CX-50’s rear legroom is more than adequate, its cargo room is below average for this compact SUV class. That said, we doubt owners will ever actually run out of room in normal situations.

Some compact SUVs laud themselves for their everyday practicality, while others tout their rugged persona. The 2026 Mazda CX-50 is a mix of both, and what a fine recipe results. As the more off-road-oriented sibling of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-5/2026/">Mazda CX-5</a>, the CX-50 looks like the tougher of the two and has more off-pavement functionality. Yet – and this is what we love about the CX-50 – it’s still a Mazda. By that, we mean it has athletic, enjoyable driving manners, and all the more so if you opt for the potent turbo engine. Yet even if you never venture further than a dirt lot or the suburbs, the CX-50 also serves well as a practical and safe 5-passenger SUV.

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid makes a total of 219 horsepower, which is quite a bit more than the standard CX-50 (187 hp) and the same as the outgoing Toyota RAV4. And we mean literally the same as that soon-to-be-last-gen RAV4 Hybrid: The Mazda actually has a partnership with Toyota to use that powertrain from the hybrid RAV4. Still, we find the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is no copycat, despite the shared heart. Mazda vehicles in general are blessed with an athletic-leaning nature, and that holds true of the CX-50. Combine that cornering talent with the CX-50’s more off-road-oriented nature, and you get a true all-arounder. Whether you’re using the CX-50 for the daily commute, urban errands, or <a href="https://www.kbb.com/reviews/experiencing-the-2025-mazda-cx-50-hybrid/">venturing off the beaten path</a>, it’s up for the challenge and satisfying to drive.
As such, the CX-50 Hybrid compares well with its current class of contenders, but it looks to have serious competition in the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4, which will only be sold as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid and brings more power to the party.
Fuel economy
The Mazda CX-50 earns 38 mpg in combined city/highway driving. This is more than respectable, and a sizable gain over the standard CX-50’s 27 mpg rating. Against competitors, the Mazda’s mpg figures beat the Subaru Forester Hybrid and all-wheel-drive versions of the Honda CR-V Hybrid, and match those of all-wheel-drive Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Kia Sportage Hybrid models.

Adventurous Exterior

The CX-50&#8217;s modus operandi is to be the more rugged, outdoorsy sibling to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-5/2026/">Mazda CX-5</a>, and that shows in its design, including this hybrid version. So there is the requisite black cladding around the wheels and available roof rails to bring your outdoor gear. The two lower trims have a decent 7.8 inches of ground clearance, while the Premium Plus sits at 8.1 inches. That’s good, but still can’t match the Forester Hybrid’s 8.7 inches. The two lower trims ride on 17-inch wheels, while the top one gets 19-inchers. All models have a convenient power liftgate with programmable height setting.

All-wheel drive 
The CX-50 Hybrid’s all-wheel-drive system is different than its gasoline-only counterpart’s, with an electric motor driving the rear wheels. That said, it’s still standard.
Driving modes 
This hybrid drivetrain also has bespoke driving modes, like Power and Trail.

Premium Interior

Mazda interiors of late just feel special, and a cut above the competition. No, they won’t win the ever-competitive screen-size wars, but the CX-50 Hybrid’s 10.25-inch high-mounted display is ample enough. Rather, the CX-50 Hybrid is ready to win you over on its premium-leaning fit, finish, and design. The 5-passenger cabin is simply a nice place to be. In the driver’s seat, you’ll enjoy a cockpit-like experience, and the center console provides a wide berth between you and the passenger. It’s there you’ll also find a traditional, easy-to-use transmission lever — no buttons, dials, or switches here. Directly south of that is a command dial like the ones BMW fashioned so long ago to control infotainment. It takes some getting used to, but after having Mazda long-term test vehicles in our fleet for years, we can say with confidence the learning curve is short.
For 2026, a panoramic moonroof is standard even in base models. And we must mention that the upholstery itself feels a grade above. Another small detail: We simply love the way Mazda steering wheels feel. Go on, grab hold and sense what we mean.
In back, rear legroom of 37.8 inches isn’t class leading — a Kia Sportage Hybrid will give you 41.3 inches — but is fine for most. Same for cargo room: Compare the Mazda’s 29.2 cubic feet with rear seats up and 56.3 with them down to the Kia’s 39.5/73.7 numbers. But we found it useful for most cases, and never needed to stack grocery bags in the front seat due to a lack of space.

We already dig the standard Mazda CX-50 for its rugged yet practical appeal, litany of safety features, and satisfying driving manners. The CX-50 Hybrid boasts all those traits and then adds excellent fuel economy to the equation, earning 38 mpg in combined city/highway driving. As the cherry on top, it also has more power than the standard CX-50.

The 2026 Subaru Forester compact SUV deftly blends adventurous ability and rugged vibes with everyday practicality and modern technology.

The Subaru Forester’s pricing is near that of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/cr-v/">Honda CR-V</a> and a bit above other rivals like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/sportage/">Kia Sportage</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/tucson/">Hyundai Tucson</a>. Part of the Forester’s value equation, however, is that it includes all-wheel drive standard — a feature that can cost extra on competitors. Those that do have all-wheel drive standard, such as the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-50/">Mazda CX-50</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ford/bronco-sport/">Ford Bronco Sport</a>, begin a bit higher than the Forester. Rugged Exterior

The 2026 Subaru Forester retains its signature boxy silhouette, but this latest generation has contemporary tweaks and neat details. The grille and headlight design are less disjointed and appear more flush, while the more angular wheel housings create a bold stance. The Forester also touts large windows, which have always given this model above-average outward vision. Ground clearance remains the number most Subaru loyalists know by heart: 8.7 inches. The new Forester Wilderness goes even better with 9.3 inches of ground clearance. It’s also shod in Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and trim-exclusive 17-inch wheels.
On the side of the rear pillar of the Forester are the words “Symmetrical AWD” in shiny script on a black background. It’s a neat effect that splits the pillar in half and gives the new Forester a sense of motion, like a strafing line on paper. Around the back, a connected taillight replaces the previous boomerang design.

Standard all-wheel drive 
More competitors are beginning to make all-wheel drive standard, but it’s a Subaru hallmark. Its Symmetrical system works exceptionally well.
Heated/ventilated front seats 
We’re pleased to see these creature comforts make it into the top Touring trim of the Forester SUV.
Infotainment system 
Except for the Base model, the 2026 Forester has an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen, displaying sharp graphics and overall user-friendliness.
DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System 
Standard in the top Touring trim, this system uses a camera to watch the driver’s face for signs of (you guessed it) distraction, as well as fatigue. It also allows for gesture control to change the temperature.
Rooftop camping 
The new Forester Wilderness has standard roof rails with an 800-pound static load capacity (and 176 pounds dynamic). This means it’s ready to be fitted with gear like a rooftop tent for adventurous owners who truly love being in the wilderness.
Emergency Stop Assist 
This system activates if the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings when adaptive cruise control is engaged. Should this happen, the Forester slowly eases to a stop, activates the hazard lights, and unlocks the doors. Additionally, those with Starlink Connected Services will call emergency services.

Roomy and Functional Cabin

The Forester’s 2-row, 5-seater cabin receives some welcome tech and convenience updates yet continues to prioritize its high utility value. For example, the Forester continues with traditional analog gauges that sandwich a small screen for driver information — no slick dual screens such as those found in the Kia Sportage. Still, the infotainment system is upgraded, with all but the Base model deploying an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen. The base version uses a dual 7-inch screen arrangement, with the top used for phone and audio functions and the bottom handling climate and vehicle settings — we’re not big fans of that setup. Higher trims enjoy plusher upholstery, and we particularly like the saddle brown perforated leather in Touring versions, whose front seats finally get ventilation in addition to heat. The new Wilderness model has water-resistant StarTex artificial leather seating surfaces with copper stitching and a Wilderness logo in the headrests.
In general, we like how the Forester’s dashboard has three-dimensional textures on some plastics, along with little splashes of color to create a little more interest. The seats are well-bolstered and comfortable, and the cabin has soft touchpoints where we rest our elbows while driving. There’s plenty of rear headroom and adequate rear legroom, with passengers back there able to tuck their toes under the seat in front.
All 2026 Forester variants feature 60/40-split folding rear seats and slightly more cargo space than before. Beyond the rear seats is 29.6 cubic feet, expanding to 74.4 when those seats are folded (for reference, the Honda CR-V’s best numbers are 39.3/76.5). We appreciate the Forester’s low lift-over height as well. This pragmatism extends to the ceiling, whose intentionally dark headliner hides scuffs from loading gear like bikes.

There’s a sea of competitors among compact SUVs, yet the Subaru Forester manages to stand out. That’s because it is — and has been for decades — the go-to choice for buyers who love outdoor adventure, immense practicality, and a strong likelihood of trips with their canine companion. The Forester entered an all-new generation just last year, but retained the traits that loyalists love: standard all-wheel drive, ample ground clearance, excellent safety scores, and high resale value.

The 2026 Subaru Forester uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with horizontally opposed pistons (as opposed to the much more common inline configuration), giving it the “boxer” designation. This sets the engine lower, contributing to that typical Subaru planted feel. The only other major automaker doing this is Porsche, so Subaru is in good company. The Forester’s engine makes 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. That’s on the lower end for base engines in compact SUVs. Like all other Subaru SUVs, the Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive and features a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The Subaru Forester is rated to tow 1,500 pounds, which is on the lighter side. The Forester Wilderness, however, is rated for up to 3,500 pounds.
3-year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Subaru’s new-vehicle warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first, while powertrain coverage is five years or 60,000 miles. Although Hyundai and Kia have much longer terms, these coverages are typical for the class.
