The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid features a 260-horsepower powertrain matching a V6 engine with a pair of electric motors. A continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) are standard. Unlike the non-hybrid Pacifica, all-wheel drive (AWD) is not an option with the hybrid.
The Pacifica Hybrid has the advantage of instant electric torque from a standstill. Its performance isn’t as punchy as its non-hybrid counterpart because of the extra weight and lower horsepower rating, but it’s still adequate for family hauling duties. The trade-off with the hybrid is much better efficiency with slightly weaker performance.
We found driving comfort to be one of the Pacifica’s strong suits. For dropping off kids at school and long-distance road trips alike, the pleasant ride quality of the Pacifica makes it an accommodating family vehicle.
Most plug-in hybrids offer the driver a choice of running on just electricity, just gas, or a hybrid combination of the two. The Pacifica Hybrid isn’t one of them; you’re stuck with whatever settings the van decides for you. This can be a good thing if you don&#8217;t want to think about the fuel source while you’re driving, but we like being able to set a PHEV to just gas power on long highway drives or just electric power in short jaunts around town.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has an all-electric range of up to 32 miles with a full charge. When the hybrid battery runs out, it operates as a gas-electric hybrid with an admirable combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg.
The non-hybrid Chrysler Pacifica gets 22 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg with all-wheel drive. According to EPA estimates, the hybrid’s fuel cost is almost half that of the non-hybrid Pacifica with front-wheel drive, a savings of about $83 per month.
Chrysler estimates charging the hybrid battery takes about 12 hours with a regular household outlet. On a Level 2 charger, it only takes about two hours.
This class has two conventional hybrids: the hybrid-only Toyota Sienna and the Kia Carnival with its optional hybrid powertrain. They’re both more efficient than the Pacifica Hybrid with a depleted battery (36 mpg and 33 mpg, respectively). However, when you factor in the Chrysler’s ability to run on electricity alone, the Pacifica Hybrid has a higher efficiency rating and lower estimated fuel costs than its hybrid rivals.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has a nice look with stylish wheels, a sleek light signature, and practical features like sliding doors. A stylish new 100th Anniversary Edition brings Luster Gray polished wheels and Granite Crystal exterior trim to help keep this van looking modern, even though it hasn’t gotten a full redesign since 2017. This is a minivan the kids (and the driver) won’t be embarrassed to climb out of.

32-mile electric range 
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has about half the fuel costs of the non-hybrid Pacifica. Thank its plug-in hybrid powertrain, which can achieve up to 32 miles of all-electric range. Depending on your driving habits, that could mean rare trips to the gas station.
Luxurious Pinnacle trim 
The Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle is one of the most luxurious minivans on the market. Features like quilted Nappa leather upholstery, lumbar pillows in the second row, Berber carpet, premium audio, and what Chrysler calls the Ultra Console make this a luxury vehicle with family-friendly seating for seven.
Uconnect infotainment system 
We love the user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system in the Pacifica. It comes standard with a 10.1-inch screen, SiriusXM, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Uconnect Theater 
The Uconnect Theater is optional on the Select trim and standard on the Pinnacle model. It consists of two screens behind the front headrests with built-in Amazon Fire TV.

100th Anniversary Edition 
Chrysler is commemorating the brand’s centennial with a special 100th Anniversary Edition of the Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid. It’s effectively an appearance package for the Select trim with Luster Gray polished wheels, gloss black and semi-gloss Granite Crystal exterior trim, and &#8220;Est. 1925&#8221; branding.

We love the modern amenities and technologies in the spacious interior of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. This van is available with premium features like Nappa leather seating, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, and wireless phone charging. On the more practical side, you can also get a built-in vacuum cleaner, an in-car camera system called “FamCam,” and a rear entertainment system with Amazon Fire TV built in that got a rousing endorsement from our young passengers in our testing.
Of note, the famous Stow ‘n Go second-row seats of the non-hybrid Pacifica are unavailable in the hybrid. The third row can still fold flat into the floor, but you don’t get the perk of fold-flat second-row seats since there’s a battery in the way. However, we commend the Pacifica Hybrid for delivering the same generous legroom and cargo space as the non-hybrid, just without that handy under-floor storage in the middle.
You get 39 inches of second-row legroom; even the third row is adult-friendly with 36.5 inches of legroom. That’s more third-row legroom than the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/carnival/">Kia Carnival</a>, but the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/odyssey/">Honda Odyssey</a> and Toyota Sienna boast over 38 inches of legroom in the way back. In our testing, the Easy Tilt second-row captain’s chairs made the third row easier to access, even with child car seats installed.
As for the vast cargo space, dimensions of 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 140.5 cubic feet behind the first row are close to the average for a minivan. That’s more cargo space than the Toyota Sienna and significantly more cargo room than any midsize 3-row SUV.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has the distinction of being the only plug-in hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/van-minivan/best-minivans/">minivan</a>. Other than the all-electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/volkswagen/id-buzz/">Volkswagen ID.Buzz</a>, which is smaller and more expensive, the Pacifica Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient competitor in the minivan class. It’s capable of traveling up to 32 miles on electricity alone, and it returns an impressive 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving with a depleted battery. It also comes with much of what we love about the regular Pacifica, like a family-friendly interior, one of our favorite infotainment systems, and luxurious accommodations in the upper trims.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has the highest starting price in the minivan class (unless we’re counting the electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz) because it’s the only plug-in hybrid minivan. There are two conventional hybrids in this segment, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/sienna/">Toyota Sienna</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/carnival-hybrid/">Kia Carnival Hybrid</a>, which both start at a little over $40,000. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid’s plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of a V6 engine mated to a pair of electric motors and a continuously variable automatic transmission. Its total output is 260 horsepower, slightly less than the non-hybrid Pacifica’s.
Although the non-hybrid Pacifica has a class-leading 3,600-pound maximum tow rating, Chrysler doesn’t recommend towing at all with the Pacifica Hybrid.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The warranty coverage for the hybrid battery depends on where you live. If you’re in one of the states that have adopted the zero-emission vehicle regulation of the California Air Resources Board, it’s a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty. It’s a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty for the rest of the country.
<h3>Safety</h3>
As families expect from minivans, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid gets good safety ratings. It receives a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). The Pacifica Hybrid, specifically, hasn’t been fully crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), but it gives the non-hybrid Pacifica a mixed score. It gets the top “Good” score in the Small Overlap Front test and either “Acceptable” or “Marginal” in every other category.

The Pacifica Hybrid itself hasn’t been around quite that long, but the Chrysler brand is celebrating its centennial. Building on the Select trim, this special edition has &#8220;Est. 1925&#8221; branding on the back, Luster Gray polished wheels, gloss black and semi-gloss Granite Crystal exterior trim, and the Safety Sphere package, which bundles parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

The 2026 Hyundai Kona is our top-ranked subcompact SUV, boasting stylish design and exceptional warranty coverage, tech, and practicality.

The Kona’s base engine makes 147 horsepower, which is about average for this class. Getting from a standstill to 60 mph takes a relaxed 9.2 seconds. This isn’t the slowest contender, though. For example, the Honda HR-V requires more than 9.5 seconds. Hyundai further limits the thrills by pairing this engine with a continuously variable automatic transmission engineered for optimum fuel economy rather than performance.
For more spirit, the SEL Premium and Limited trims use a turbocharged 190-hp engine, which allow these Kona models to hit 60 mph about two seconds sooner. Hyundai links this more muscular engine with a traditional 8-speed automatic transmission.
Generally, we find the Kona to be pleasant, efficient, and relatively roomy for a small SUV. The seats are supportive enough to keep the fatigue factor low, even on trips of eight hours or more. The steering is responsive, while the brakes provide a decent amount of feel.
Fuel Economy
The Kona’s fuel efficiency is in line with the competition. The popular base engine/all-wheel-drive combination results in 28 mpg during combined city/highway driving. A comparable Honda HR-V returns 27 mpg combined, while the Subaru Crosstrek manages 29 mpg combined.
With front-wheel drive (FWD), the Kona achieves 31 mpg combined. And the more powerful engine runs to 28 mpg combined (front-wheel drive) or 26 mpg combined (all-wheel drive).

Tomorrowland Exterior

The Kona’s radical and futuristic looks may have something to do with this generation’s initial design sparked (pardon the pun) by the EV version. The “chicken or the egg” conundrum springs to mind when talking Kona styling. In our mind, Hyundai seems to have first penned the EV’s looks and then adapted it to the combustion version. That said, Hyundai has still managed to retain pleasing and sensible proportions. The Kona’s tidy size is a joy when parking. It’s ideal in crowded conditions like city parking garages.

12.3-inch display 
All 2026 Hyundai Kona models boast a big and crisp 12.3-inch touchscreen, an impressive size for this class. Starting with the SEL Premium trim, there is a secondary 12.3-inch digital display for the instrument cluster.
All-wheel drive 
This is optional in all Kona variants (except the EV), providing optimum grip and traction in the wet and dry. All-wheel-drive models also get a multi-link rear suspension, which brings improved ride quality and is a win-win in our book.
Hyundai Bluelink 
These remote services include automatic collision notification, roadside assistance, remote start/climate settings, stolen vehicle location/slowdown, and panic notification.
Over-the-air updates 
The Kona can improve even after it’s been purchased, thanks to over-the-air updates (OTA) providing software enhancements.
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
Cable-free phone integration is standard across the Kona lineup, which we’re pleased to see.
Dual-zone automatic climate control 
Beginning with the SEL Sport trim, dual-zone automatic climate control is standard. A set-it-and-forget-it system, it separates the cooling and heating function into right and left zones. Once the temperature for each zone is set, the system maintains that temperature automatically.

Practical Interior

“Less is more” comes to mind <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/lets-take-a-look-inside-the-hyundai-kona/">when we survey the Kona’s cabin</a>. Hyundai keeps it simple but effective. The 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard in every new Kona, while upper trims gain a matching 12.3-inch digital driver information display. The two screens sit side by side, spreading across half of the dashboard. Covered by one long glass panel, they appear as one continuous display.
The Kona is a 5-seater. Well, a comfortable 4-seater with a small middle rear spot. Rear legroom of 38.2 inches puts the Kona up there with the more spacious members of this class. Cargo capacity is also better than average. There’s 25.5 cubic feet behind the second row, opening out to a maximum of 63.7 cubic feet when they’re folded down. That’s more than the Honda HR-V.

About the only way Hyundai could make us more enthusiastic about the 2026 Kona would be to beef up the horsepower in the base engine. Otherwise, we can’t find a nit to pick. In fact, we like it so much that we named it our <a href="https://www.kbb.com/awards/best-buy-awards-2025-hyundai-kona-subcompact-suv/">Kelley Blue Book Subcompact SUV Best Buy Award winner</a> again. Besides being easy on the eyes, it’s competent, fuel efficient, and claims the best warranty in the industry. But wait, there’s more. Its tidy footprint allows the Kona to wiggle into tight parking slots in spite of offering one of the roomier interiors in the segment. Win, win, win, win, win.

For our money, the entry-level SE is quite well stocked regarding technology and convenience features. Although stepping up to the SEL Sport grade gains such sought-after features as heated front seats, bigger 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air vents, making the jump to the SEL Premium trim really rounds out the offerings. In addition to the SEL Sport’s extras, the SEL Premium brings a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, the turbo engine, and 19-inch wheels. Adding all-wheel-drive to any model will set you back about $1,500.
The Kona’s starting price is on par with its competition that’s mostly in the $25,000 to $27,000 range. These rivals include the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/seltos/">Kia Seltos</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/hr-v/">Honda HR-V</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/subaru/crosstrek/">Subaru Crosstrek</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-30/">Mazda CX-30</a>. It’s worth noting that although the Crosstrek and CX-30 are priced above the Kona, they both come standard with all-wheel drive.

Engine & Transmission

The most popular engine choice with the Kona is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit making 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. Not a massive amount of muscle, but no worse than most of this subcompact SUV class. The automatic transmission here is of the continuously variable variety.
The SEL Premium and Limited models have a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine generating a much sportier 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. This connects to a traditional 8-speed automatic transmission. However, if performance is your must-have, we suggest you check out the Mazda CX-30.
Front-wheel drive is the default setup, with all-wheel drive available as an option with either engine.
5-Year/60,000-Mile Warranty
The Kona SUV enjoys class-leading warranties. Hyundai’s excellent coverage includes a 5-year/60,000-mile (whichever happens first) basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) awarded the Kona its highest accolade: Top Safety Pick+. It earned an overall score of four stars out of a possible five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance.

What's new for 2026

<a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai</a> curtailed the SEL, SEL Convenience, N Line S, and N Line grades in favor of the SEL Sport and SEL Premium, realigning standard features in the process. A larger center console tray is standard across the board, as is adaptive cruise control and junction turning assist. The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster becomes standard on the SEL Premium trim.

The perennially practical Chrysler Pacifica continues to be a trusted family hauler, and it can get more luxurious than you might expect for a minivan.

The Chrysler Pacifica is powered by a 287-horsepower V6 engine matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive. This engine is perfect for a minivan. There’s no shortage of power, making the Pacifica easy to drive, even when loaded with passengers and cargo. On paper and in practice, it’s very similar to the V6 engines that power the Honda Odyssey and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/carnival/">Kia Carnival</a>.
We’ve found driving comfort to be one of the Pacifica’s strong suits. For dropping kids off at school and long-distance road trips alike, the pleasant ride quality of the Pacifica makes it an accommodating family vehicle.
The optional all-wheel-drive system ensures the Pacifica is one of the best vehicles for families where the roads get ugly in winter. Granted, the Toyota Sienna also offers all-wheel drive, but we still love to see it as an option on any minivan.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Chrysler Pacifica gets 22 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg with all-wheel drive. That front-wheel-drive fuel economy rating is identical to that of the Honda Odyssey and one mpg better than that of the non-hybrid Kia Carnival.
The hybrid-powered Toyota Sienna is more efficient, returning up to 36 mpg, and the available hybrid powertrain in the Kia Carnival gets 33 mpg. However, the plug-in hybrid variant of the Pacifica has lower <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated fuel costs than both and can go up to 32 miles on electricity alone.

Handsome Exterior

The Chrysler Pacifica has a nice look with stylish wheels, a sleek light signature, and practical features like sliding doors. A stylish new 100th Anniversary Edition brings Luster Gray polished wheels and Granite Crystal exterior trim to help keep this van looking modern, even though it hasn’t gotten a full redesign since 2017. This is a minivan the kids (and the driver) won’t be embarrassed to climb out of.

Stow ‘n Go seating 
The Chrysler Pacifica comes standard with the handy Stow ‘n Go seating system. The second- and third-row seats can fold flat into the floor, giving you tons of cargo space without needing to take any seats out of the van. If you regularly find yourself hauling kids and plywood in the same day, this is a must-have feature.
Available all-wheel drive 
This option makes this minivan a good choice for families in snowy climates. All-wheel drive is available on every trim of the Chrysler Pacifica.
Luxurious Pinnacle trim 
The Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle is one of the most luxurious minivans on the market. Features like quilted Nappa leather upholstery, lumbar pillows in the second row, Berber carpet, premium audio, and what Chrysler calls the Ultra Console make this a luxury vehicle with family-friendly seating for seven.
Uconnect infotainment system 
We love the user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system in the Pacifica. It comes standard with a 10.1-inch screen, SiriusXM, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety tech 
The Pacifica delivers the peace of mind families expect from a minivan with standard safety features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
Stow ‘n Vac 
Chrysler knows that minivans can get messy. The available Stow ‘n Vac feature is a Rigid vacuum cleaner behind the second row, making it a little easier to keep the interior clean. We found this especially convenient when things got messy while on a road trip.

Flexible Interior

The spacious interior of the Chrysler Pacifica is full of modern amenities and technology. It’s available with premium features like Nappa leather seating, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, and wireless phone charging. On the more practical side, you can also get a built-in vacuum cleaner, a &#8220;FamCAM&#8221; in-car camera system, and a rear entertainment system to make road trips more enjoyable for your passengers. That optional entertainment system still comes with a Blu-Ray/DVD player, and the screens are behind the front headrests, making them hard for third-row passengers to see.
Clearly designed with families in mind, the Pacifica comes standard with Stow ‘n Go seating; the second- and third-row seats can fold flat into the floor. Transforming the Pacfica from a passenger van to a cargo van is nearly effortless, without having to remove heavy seats and find a spot for them in the garage. Stow ‘n Go is our favorite feature that’s unique to the Pacifica; no other minivan has fold-flat second-row seats.
When those seats are in place, there’s no bad seat in the Pacifica. You get 39 inches of second-row legroom, and even the third row is adult-friendly with 36.5 inches of legroom. That’s more third-row legroom than the Kia Carnival, but the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna boast over 38 inches of legroom in the way back. In our testing, the Easy Tilt second-row captain’s chairs made the third row easier to access, even with child car seats installed. Minivans are all about family hauling, and the Pacifica is at the top of its game in this regard.
As for the vast cargo space, dimensions of 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 87.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 140.5 cubic feet behind the first row are close to the average for a minivan. The Pacifica has more cargo space than the Toyota Sienna and much more cargo space than any midsize 3-row SUV.

Chrysler revolutionized family transportation when it invented the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/van-minivan/best-minivans/">minivan</a> back in the &#8217;80s. Tough competition has entered the arena in the decades since then, but the Chrysler Pacifica endures as a popular choice in family transportation. It does a nice job blending user-friendly familiarity with modern innovation in family-oriented features like an onboard vacuum, a rear entertainment system with Amazon Fire TV built in, and a camera and intercom system for monitoring your precious passengers. It’s also the only minivan with Stow ‘n Go seating, allowing all of the back seats to fold flat into the floor. The Chrysler Pacifica is practical, modern, and even luxurious when loaded with options.
Chrysler also offers the more affordable <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/voyager/">Voyager</a> and the plug-in <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/pacifica-hybrid/">Pacifica Hybrid</a>, which we review separately.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of minivans, including the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica.

Although nicely equipped, the Pacifica’s starting price is higher than its in-segment rivals like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/sienna/">Toyota Sienna</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/odyssey/">Honda Odyssey</a>. That’s partially because of the Chrysler Voyager, another minivan that the brand treats as a separate model. The Voyager is effectively the affordable base trim of the Pacifica, starting at a little over $40K.
Before buying a Pacifica, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. The Chrysler Pacifica&#8217;s resale value is not terrible, but it is among the lowest in the minivan segment. On the flip side, used Pacifica models tend to be common and inexpensive.

The Chrysler Pacifica is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the front or all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. This engine’s performance and fuel economy are typical for a V6-powered minivan. More efficient options include the hybrid-powered Toyota Sienna or Kia Carnival and the plug-in hybrid variant of the Pacifica.
The Pacifica has best-in-class towing, but only by a little bit. It can pull up to 3,600 pounds, and its three big rivals all have a 3,500-pound tow rating.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Chrysler Pacifica is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. That coverage matches the Odyssey and Sienna, but the Kia Carnival has a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The Chrysler Pacifica&#8217;s safety scores are a bit of a mixed bag. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) gives the Pacifica the top 5-Star overall safety rating. However, in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) testing, the Chrysler gets the top &#8220;Good&#8221; score in the Small Overlap Front test and either &#8220;Acceptable&#8221; or &#8220;Marginal&#8221; in every other category. Meanwhile, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna both earn the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick awards.

The 2026 model year brings a special 100th Anniversary Edition to the Chrysler Pacifica Lineup. The Pacifica itself hasn’t been around quite that long, but the Chrysler brand continues to celebrate its centennial. This special edition has &#8220;Est. 1925&#8221; branding on the back, Luster Gray polished wheels, gloss black and semi-gloss Granite Crystal exterior trim, and the Safety Sphere package, which bundles parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

The 2026 Volvo EX30 is a diminutive electric SUV with outsized performance and panache. A new Cross Country variant adds rugged vibes.

We won’t bemoan the fact that, at present, the EX30 is only sold in the U.S. in the dual-motor configuration. That’s because it’s furiously fast and unexpectedly fun. Zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds used to be the stuff of supercars, and here we have it on a sensible Volvo subcompact SUV. In fact, the EX30’s 3.4-second blast to 60 mph mirrors that of the high-performance Kia EV6 GT, which is nearly $20,000 more and has a significantly tauter ride quality.
And that’s one of the great things about the EX30: Once you’re done with the stoplight speed-away shenanigans, this Volvo’s ride quality is comfortable and serene. It won’t carve corners like a dedicated high-performance EV SUV like the EV6 GT or Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, but we’re happy trading everyday comfort for those brief moments of canyon carving. If you are, too, then we suspect you’ll be pleased with the EX30’s overall driving manners.
Interestingly, the EX30 defaults to rear-wheel drive in the name of efficiency, but it’s always ready to engage the front motor and wheels when extra traction is needed. Or, you can engage all-wheel drive manually with the touch of an icon on the screen.
The EX30’s regenerative braking is also adept, and features one-pedal driving for those so inclined. In addition to the high regen mode, there is also a low or off mode. In our testing we found the “low” mode more of a “mid.”
The new EX30 Cross Country sits a hair higher and has a slightly softer suspension than the standard EX30, but drives much the same. This is a soft-roader at best, and that will be fine for most buyers. We think the ability to excel driving in the city and highway alike — with a bit of ability to venture off pavement — will suit Volvo drivers.
Range and Charging
The dual-motor EX30 is EPA-rated for 253 miles of range when equipped with 19-inch wheels and 250 when rolling on 20s. Those numbers are below the 318 max of an Ioniq 5, and closer to the Kona Electric’s range of 261 miles. We haven’t seen stats for the EX30 Cross Country, especially one fitted with 18-inch all-terrain tires, but we imagine it will take a small hit. Volvo says the EX30 is capable of charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity in about 27 minutes on a Level 3 public DC fast charger, which is on the fast side. Charging from 0% to 100% using a Level 2 home charger can be accomplished in about eight hours. An NACS adaptor grants the EX30 access to Tesla’s wide-ranging network of Supercharger stations.

Excellent Exterior

Measuring eight inches shorter than Volvo’s own XC40 and 10 inches shorter than the diminutive <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/ux/">Lexus UX</a>, the 2026 Volvo EX30 is among the smallest SUVs on the market. But it doesn’t look it. It’s sharply styled and well-proportioned, giving it a real-world presence that belies its dimensions. The clean, modern, and enduring design features sheetmetal that looks like it’s still wet as it flows smoothly over the SUV’s somewhat muscular bones. We think Volvo’s designers nailed it.
The new EX30 Cross Country injects this model with a touch of ruggedness. It sits higher, but not by much — 19 mm or .74 inches, to be exact. There are also bits of black exterior cladding around the wheel arches and skid plates to add to the adventurous appeal. For drivers more serious about venturing off pavement, 18-inch all-terrain tires are available for added grip.

Pilot Assist 
We’ve logged hundreds of reduced-effort highway miles using Volvo’s Pilot Assist system, cruising comfortably with our feet off the pedals and a ready hand on the wheel. We found the speed, distance, and steering assist system easy to use in the EX30 — just press down on the stalk-mounted transmission selector — but it doesn’t work as well as some others in stop-and-go traffic.
Park Pilot Assist 
The only way the extra-subcompact EX30 could be any easier to park is if it could park itself — which it can do. Very well.
Helpful Home Screen 
Volvo’s latest infotainment system features a robust and smartly organized home screen, offering a wealth of relevant information and easy, intuitive access to functions. Important, since so much is controlled via this screen, including adjustment of the outside mirrors.
Robust Google Integration 
In addition to a smart interface, the EX30’s infotainment system features seamless integration of Google Maps, Google Assistant, and related apps and services. By considering both your destination and charge level, for instance, Google Maps can make it easy to find efficient routes and chargers. Google built-in is especially useful if you own an Android phone or are an otherwise heavy user of Google’s ecosystem. But don’t worry, iPhone devotees, the EX30 also offers wireless Apple CarPlay integration.
Over-the-Air Updates 
Like your mobile phone, the EX30 will get better with time as Volvo releases software updates that can happen while you sleep.
Cross Country version 
We admit to being excited about this new version of the EX30 ever since it was teased at the debut of the standard EX30. It’s just rugged enough to appear outdoorsy without going overboard. It isn’t meant for the Rubicon, but with a bit more ground clearance, skid plates, and those optional all-terrain tires, it will handle dirt roads and snow suitably.

Small, Stylish, and Smart Interior

The most important thing to know about the interior of the EX30 is that there’s very little legroom for rear-seat passengers. Volvo claims 32.3 inches of legroom in back, which is less than just about every other subcompact SUV and about four meaningful inches shy of the segment average. The EX30 is best for a one- or two-person household that doesn’t need to transport even smaller humans in the backseat on a regular basis or very far.
With that caveat covered, we’re fans of the Volvo EX30’s cabin overall. In contrast with the rear seat accommodations, the EX30 feels like an even larger vehicle in front. Indeed, the key front-row dimensions are all above the segment average. We also found good spots for our drinks and phones, plus a sliding, centrally located storage bin and extra-roomy door pockets (but we wish they included a dedicated bottle holder).
The 5-passenger cabin has a minimalist feel in general, especially up front, where a vertically oriented 12.3-inch screen does double duty for both an instrument cluster and infotainment screen. We advise familiarizing yourself with the controls and settings before launching onto the highway; most controls depend on your finger touching the screen and/or steering wheel, even to do something as simple as adjust the mirrors.
The EX30 also comes with a glass panoramic roof. It doesn’t open but does do a good job of blocking out the sun. If you find our closest star’s rays still too intense, a screen is available for further blockage.
Also note that, as of this writing, only the Apple CarPlay is available in the EX30. Volvo reps tell us that Android Auto will manifest itself via a future update. And if you’re a fan of AM radio, that’s out of the picture altogether, as with other Volvo vehicles.
At just around 12 cubic feet, the EX30 is short on cargo room compared to the competition, but drop the split-folding seatbacks and lower the two-tier load floor and there’s room enough to accommodate the spoils of a trip to your favorite warehouse store — 27.8 cubic feet’s worth, when including the subfloor compartment. Up front, the Volvo EX30 has a small frunk (front trunk), that’s just large enough to hold the charging cord or a small duffel bag.

The Volvo EX30 is an all-electric SUV like no other and something of a master of contrasts. It’s the smallest and least expensive battery-powered SUV from the Swedish luxury brand, yet also the fastest and arguably most stylish. This little meatball can blast from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, doing so with charming looks that make it appear a coy toy for youthful drivers who prioritize safety and sensibility.
The EX30’s potency comes thanks to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup and an almost-obscene 422 horsepower. And all of this is had at an appealing price that slides below $50,000. Buyers with a more adventurous spirit will be drawn to the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country variant.
