The 2026 Chevy Tahoe is powered by a 355-horsepower V8 engine matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). This aging engine isn’t as powerful as the turbo 6-cylinder engines in its Ford and Jeep rivals, but it still has plenty of thrust, and it’s adequate for daily family-hauling duties.
Drivers seeking more muscle for towing regularly or just because they want more oomph will be interested in the bigger 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 hp or the Duramax turbodiesel 6-cylinder pumping out 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. We know most of you will go for a V8, but we’re partial to the diesel, which has both the highest torque rating and best fuel economy in the Tahoe’s engine lineup. Chevy and GMC are the only brands that offer a diesel in this class.
One of the reasons families love the Chevy Tahoe is its ride quality on long highway trips. The long wheelbase and compliant suspension (especially with the optional Magnetic Ride Control system) create a truly premium feel for the driver and passengers alike. The available <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/gms-super-cruise-now-covers-750000-miles-of-roads/">Super Cruise</a> hands-free highway driving system makes the Tahoe an even better road tripper.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The standard V8 in the Tahoe returns 15 city/20 highway/17 combined mpg. The bigger 6.2-liter V8 is equally efficient, but requires premium gas, yielding much higher fuel cost estimates. Meanwhile, the only diesel in this class gives the Tahoe up to 22 city/26 highway/24 combined mpg. That’s a better fuel economy rating than the hybrid Toyota Sequoia.
The turbocharged 6-cylinder engines in the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada are all more efficient than the V8s in the Tahoe. The Ford and Jeep don’t require premium fuel, but the Nissan does.

We always appreciate the ability to integrate a phone into a vehicle’s infotainment system. Especially when it’s wireless, we don’t have to dig that phone out of a pocket or purse.
Infotainment touchscreen 
A high-resolution 17.7-inch display comes standard in every new Tahoe. That’s big and really lends a more tech-rich feel to the cabin. We’re also fans of the easy-to-use infotainment system.
Hands-free tailgate 
It is one of those convenience features that gets used a lot. It’s standard in all Tahoe models except for the base LS.
Super Cruise 
With this optional superpower, you can drive on about 750,000 miles of North American highway with your hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals (but eyes on the road).
Trailering technology 
Features like Boat Ramp Assist and Trailer Navigation — which works out the ideal route while taking the trailer’s size into account — make towing much more manageable.
Z71 trim 
The rugged Tahoe Z71 is as capable as its macho aesthetic suggests. A few off-road upgrades include standard 4-wheel drive, extra ground clearance, hill descent control, all-terrain tires, and an appearance package with a favorable approach angle and a skid plate.

If you’re shopping for a full-size SUV, space is probably important to you, so let’s start there. The Chevy Tahoe boasts 42 inches of second-row legroom and 34.9 inches of third-row legroom. The third row is still best reserved for kids, but has adequate room for average-sized adults.
Second- and third-row legroom in the Tahoe are about the same as the Ford Expedition and Jeep Wagoneer, but cargo space is a strength for the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/">Chevy</a>. The Tahoe has 25.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row (more than the Ford, slightly less than the Jeep) and class-leading maximum cargo capacity of 122.7 cubic feet.
But wedon’tt just love theTahoe’ss interior for its hugeness. It’s also full of modern and user-friendly technology. The previous year’s refresh brought a big update to the screens, namely, a standard 17.7-inch central infotainment screen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. We like this setup for being both high-tech and user-friendly. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, and a few desirable interior options include Bose audio, a power-sliding center console, a head-up display, and a rear camera mirror. Another nice touch is that all trims, except the base LS, have standard leather seats.

Under the Hood

The base engine for the Chevy Tahoe SUV lineup is a 5.3-liter V8 generating 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The RST, Z71, and Premier trims offer the option of a 6.2-liter V8 developing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s standard in the top High Country trim. Unless it’s the LS, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, generating 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, is an option.
All three engines connect to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup, with 4-wheel drive on the options list or standard in the Z71. The rear-wheel-drive version with the smaller V8 engine achieves the maximum towing capacity of 8,200 pounds. For comparison, the Jeep Wagoneer can pull up to 10,000 pounds.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Chevrolet’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers. The first scheduled service is also included.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The Tahoe earned the top 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Testing from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) is a bit mixed; it got a “Poor” score in the moderate overlap front crash test and either “Good” or “Acceptable” in every other category. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and an HD Surround Vision camera.

What's new for 2026

The Chevy Tahoe got a significant refresh for 2025, so it gets minor updates for 2026. A couple of new features include a Key Card, which is a card you can use as a key, and Cabin Glance, an in-car camera system letting the driver monitor activity in the back seats. We’ve seen this feature in minivans, and it’s getting more common in big SUVs. There’s also a new RST Dark Essentials appearance package and updated paint and wheel options.

The 2026 BMW M5 exists in that exclusive class of gloriously powerful and sporty midsize luxury cars.

Power, Ride and Handling

The M5 develops a total of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful M5 to date. Which is really saying something. This is an awesome amount of muscle, capable of propelling the sedan from standstill to 60 mph in a rapid 3.4 seconds (the Touring is a tenth slower). And it just keeps dashing, with the ability to thrust from 50 mph to 75 mph in a mere 2.2 seconds. The M5 also has a 47-hp edge over the much pricier Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, although that doesn’t translate to a faster sprint time. This Porsche clocks in at three seconds flat.
Which brings us to our one minor gripe. For all that impressive muscle, the 2026 M5’s extra hybrid hardware has added weight, making it a couple of tenths of a second slower to 60 mph than its 600-hp predecessor. We’re prepared to accept, though, that this may be academic while in the throes of acceleration.
An adaptive M-tuned suspension is part of the whole package, enhancing comfort at one end of the dynamics envelope, while containing body roll at the other. Integral Active Steering — BMW’s name for rear-wheel steering — is also standard in the 2026 M5, contributing to agility and maneuverability, and making this midsize car seem a tad smaller than it really is. We also like how the steering feels — there’s a decent amount of tactile feedback. And the brakes hit the usual high level of excellence that we admire so much in BMW cars.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
BMW didn’t pair a twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor to make the M5 a fuel-sipper. The idea was to strap together two sources of power for the sheer thrill of it. These M5 variants are plug-in hybrids, yet still subject to a gas guzzler tax. The M5 sedan achieves the equivalent of 50 mpg combined (50 MPGe) or 14 mpg combined if the battery doesn’t have sufficient juice. The electric-only range is 27 miles.
The M5 Touring wagon manages 54 MPGe combined, or 13 mpg combined, with a battery-powered range of 25 miles.
For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid sedan runs to 59 MPGe combined/23 mpg combined, while its battery is capable of 43 miles.

Focused Exterior

Apart from the obvious difference of a wagon body with the M5 Touring, the M5 has its own look to differentiate it from the rest of the 5 Series sedan lineup. This includes various aerodynamic additions, a wider body with redesigned wheel arches to accommodate the large wheel/tire combination, and a quad exhaust system — plus a palette of exclusive metallic paint choices that includes Isle of Man Green, Marina Bay Blue, and the matte Frozen Deep Grey.
Under the skin, BMW has increased the body’s rigidity compared with the regular 5 Series. The company also offers an optional carbon roof for the sedan, reducing weight by 66 pounds and lowering the center of gravity.

BMW Curved Display 
A common sight in contemporary BMW vehicles, but — in our opinion — no less impressive because of it. This is the single housing that contains the 12.3-inch configurable instrument cluster and the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, both with sharp graphics. BMW also offers streaming and gaming in the M5.
M Hybrid modes 
In Comfort mode, the system leans more on the electric motor. In Sport and Sport Plus, the combustion engine is always in action. The two optional Dynamic and Dynamic Plus modes are for track use, delivering as much power as possible, for either a series of laps (Dynamic) or a quicker burst (Dynamic Plus).
Adaptive LED headlights with cornering function 
This is one of those features we’ve really liked in other vehicles and miss when it’s not there. Being able to throw light into corners is especially useful given how fast the M5 can zip around them.
Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio 
Often at the pricier end of BMW’s options lists, this 18-speaker/655-watt surround-sound system is standard in the M5. We love B&amp;W stuff for the clarity, power, and detail.
Carbon ceramic brakes 
An expensive option, but one we’d recommend to anyone planning to take their M5 for a few track-day blasts. They’re strong, fade-free, warp-free, and 55 pounds lighter than the standard setup. These are offered with the M5 Touring as well.
BMW Digital Key Plus 
M5 owners and a lucky few friends and family members can access and drive the M5 using their Apple iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device.

Intelligent Interior

High tech and fine leather combine with well-cushioned and well-shaped front seats to give the M5 the upscale air it deserves. We already like the cabin of the regular 5 Series and appreciate its exemplary build quality as well as the intelligent layout. Although BMW says the hybrid battery hasn’t encroached upon cabin or cargo space, the M5 has lost of bit of rear legroom, shrinking from 37.5 inches of rear legroom to 36.2 inches. It&#8217;s also impacted the trunk, which is a generous 18.4 cubic feet in the regular sedan and just 16.5 in the M5 sedan. The M5 Touring adds wagon versatility and practicality, with 17.7 cubic feet behind the 40/20/40 rear seats, opening out to 57.6 cubic feet when they’re folded down.

Stunning. Gobsmacking. Useful. With that third word, we’re thinking of the M5 Touring wagon more than the M5 sedan, but the latter has quite a large trunk, nevertheless.
We can imagine someone from <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> putting on their best Liam Neeson voice and saying the company has made a car with a particular set of skills. Of course, the M5 has had these skills honed over a long career of being the sportiest, highest-performance iteration of the wonderful BMW 5 Series midsize luxury car. This latest generation debuted last year and rewrites the usual performance-car script by packing a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/luxury-car/">midsize luxury cars</a>, including the BMW M5.

The 2026 BMW M5 has a starting sticker price of $122,675, with the range-topping M5 sedan kicking off at $123,075.

There’s also a gas guzzler tax of $2,100 for the M5 sedan and $2,600 for the Touring wagon that should be added to those figures.
Looking at possible rivals, in order to get even close to the M5’s power in the (admittedly larger) <a href="https://www.kbb.com/porsche/panamera/">Porsche Panamera</a> means going for the Turbo E-Hybrid, which starts above $200K. There’s also the 577-horsepower <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-e-class/">Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid</a> sedan, beginning below the M5, while the 621-hp <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/rs-6/">Audi RS 6 Avant</a> is closer to $130K.

The plug-in hybrid drivetrain in the 2026 M6 benefits from BMW’s involvement in motor sports, endurance racing in particular. On the combustion side is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (a well-known entity in BMW vehicles). An electric motor is integrated into the M-tuned 8-speed automatic transmission. Together, they create a mighty 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, going to a standard M-tuned all-wheel drive system.

<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical for European luxury car makers. Roadside assistance is included for that period, but with unlimited mileage. Hybrid batteries are covered for eight years or 80,000 miles. Scheduled maintenance is free for three years or 36,000 miles.

This current generation of 5 Series was named a 2025 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), the agency’s second-highest accolade. The 2026 Audi Q5 is a luxurious, balanced, tasteful option in a field full of excellent choices.

Last year’s updates moved the Q5 lineup to a single powertrain, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine good for 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The same engine provides motivation for all three available trims. Audi says this engine, paired with standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and the standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, will accelerate the Q5 from a stop to 60 mph in a brisk 5.8 seconds and onward to a top speed of 130 mph.
If the all-new Q5 adheres to the same dynamic style as the previous model, it should fit somewhere between the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC in sportiness, with a balanced take on both pace and comfort.
Fuel Economy
The Q5’s 25 mpg combined puts it just a bit behind its key rivals. The BMW X3 xDrive30i, for instance, is rated at 29 mpg combined, the Lexus NX 250 AWD scores 28 mpg combined, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4Matic gets 26 mpg combined.

Handsome Exterior

Like its interior design ethos, Audi’s exterior design emphasizes premium elements through subtle, understated details. Rather than trying to blow minds or break necks, the Q5 is happy simply to capture one’s gaze and hold it.

Dynamic interaction light 
This new dash-spanning LED strip helps communicate additional visual cues to the driver and occupants about the car’s status. For instance, the strip can provide a welcoming light when the vehicle is unlocked, or enhance the output of the Virtual Cockpit display with additional visual aids.
New, larger HUD 
With a 7-inch wide, 3-inch tall virtual display, the new  head-up display (HUD) offers significantly more real estate than the previous model’s HUD. For the first time, the HUD can also now display vehicle, phone call, and infotainment information, too.
Audi assistant 
Audi’s latest in-car digital assistant gets a new on-screen avatar as well as a host of more advanced functions, including weather forecasts, automation of routines, and even proactive suggestions for climate control or seat settings based on contextual information.

Elegant Interior

Audi’s interiors have a reputation for tasteful elegance, and the Q5’s cabin is no exception. Materials, fit, finish, and features are all top-notch.
The Q5’s interior space is competitive, with 40.9 inches of front legroom and 38 inches in the rear. Cargo volume is also good, up somewhat from the previous Q5, at 27.6 cubic feet behind the second row, or 56.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. The all-new 2026 BMW X3, on the other hand, offers even more space, with 31.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats, or 67.1 cubic feet with the second row folded down — so much space it’s almost a size class up from the Q5

Having just entered an all-new generation midway through the 2025 model year, the 2026 Audi Q5 is expected to carry forward into the new model year with few, if any, changes. That’s not a problem for Audi fans, however, as the all-new Q5 is an attractive, feature-packed compact luxury SUV that looks poised to continue its status as the brand’s best-seller.

The 2025 Audi Q5&#8217;s starting sticker price was $53,495, with the range-topping Q5 TFSI Prestige starting at $61,895. We expect prices to remain roughly the same for the 2026 Q5.
