The 2026 Toyota Prius is powered by a 194-horsepower hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). There were about 20 years when nobody associated the Prius with a fun driving experience, but that changed when the newest generation came out in 2023. Once notoriously lackadaisical, the Prius can now get a hustle on. It used to take 9.8 seconds to saunter from a standstill to 60 mph. This generation of Prius can manage the dash in a downright lively 7.2 seconds.
Coming back to a halt is similarly impressive. In the early days of hybrids, their regenerative braking systems felt odd compared with conventional cars and took some getting used to. But no one does this better than Toyota. We’ve found the brakes in the Prius to feel natural, smooth, and confident.
The ride is smooth, as is typical for a hybrid. However, also typical for a hybrid, we noticed some droning sounds in our testing. Occasional noisiness is still a necessary tradeoff in a hybrid with a CVT, maximizing fuel economy. The steering requires virtually no effort, which is an asset when maneuvering. The car also feels quite nimble and composed through the corners, yet the ride quality is completely comfortable.
A small rear window hampers outward vision. There is a remedy for this, though. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, and a digital rearview mirror is available in the Limited trim. It shows a clear image of what’s behind the car, courtesy of a rear-facing camera. Technology like this has enabled Toyota to push the design envelope unrestricted by small compromises.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Toyota Prius achieves a remarkable 57 combined mpg (57 city, 56 highway). That’s for the base LE trim with front-wheel drive. For reference, in their most efficient variants, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid gets 54 mpg and the Honda Civic Hybrid gets 49 mpg.
The higher XLE and Limited versions return 52 combined mpg. With all-wheel drive, the LE is rated at 54 combined mpg, while the XLE and Limited equivalents run to 49 combined mpg.
It’s tempting to go with the base trim since it’s the most efficient, but according to <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a> estimates, the difference in monthly fuel costs for the most efficient Prius versus its least efficient variant is only about $12.

It’s always been noticeable to the average bystander that Toyota prioritized efficient aerodynamics over attractive styling with the Prius. However, this newest generation actually looks good without compromising on its slippery aero. The driving character has finally found a favorable balance of verve and efficiency, and the handsome exterior follows suit. It’s a Prius you won’t be embarrassed to drive.

Toyota used to lean into the weirdness of the Prius by putting all of the gauges in the middle of the dashboard. With the most recent generation, we’re grateful that the driver information display is now in front of the driver. It’s a little thing, but existing Prius owners upgrading to the newest generation will appreciate it.
The dashboard echoes the car’s front end — clean and modern. We also like the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen available in the higher trims and the wireless charging location. This spot just ahead of the center armrest is secure and big enough to take the latest crop of giant smartphones with a case.
The low roof means tall adults will argue about who gets to sit up front. The Prius has 36.4 inches of rear headroom and 34.8 inches of rear legroom. If this is a concern, look instead at the roomier Honda Civic Hybrid (available as a sedan or a hatchback) or the even more spacious SUV-like Kia Niro.
It’s a shame that those places where elbows usually come to rest are woefully under-padded. The usual Toyota aversion to using adequate sound deadening is also evident. Road noise blends with the noticeable thrum of the hybrid system.
The cargo space behind the rear seats is decent, albeit slightly less than that of the Civic Hybrid Hatchback: 23.8 cubic feet with LE trim and 20.3 cubic feet with XLE and Limited trims. A couple of golf bags will fit with room to spare.

The 2026 model upholds this reputation with an outstanding 57 mpg rating. The current generation of the Prius is our favorite one yet because it serves up a stylish design and a surprisingly energetic driving experience without sacrificing the efficiency it’s famous for. Add in available all-wheel drive (AWD), excellent safety ratings, and great resale value, and the Toyota Prius is simply one of the most sensible car-buying decisions the discerning shopper can make.

Every 2026 Toyota Prius is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine and a continuously variable transmission with a pair of electric motors. Front-wheel drive is standard, and an optional all-wheel-drive system adds another motor to the rear axle. Output is rated at 194 horsepower for FWD models and 196 hp for AWD variants. The Civic Hybrid has a similar output, while the Elantra Hybrid is notably less powerful at 139 hp.
The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/prius-plug-in-hybrid/">Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid</a>, reviewed separately, has even more power along with its ability to travel up to 45 miles on electricity alone.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Toyota’s basic new-car warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first, with powertrain coverage going for five years or 60,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream car companies. Hybrid-related components have a warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles, while the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of free maintenance.

The latest Toyota Prius hybrid has stellar safety ratings. It has earned the lauded Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and the top 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). The 2026 Audi A3 is a fine example of the subcompact luxury sedan class, delivering a premium experience without breaking the bank.

Power, Ride and Handling

We think the A3’s 201-hp drivetrain is absolutely fine for workaday stuff. And accelerating from standstill to 60 mph in six seconds is kind of fun. The 228-hp BMW 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is in that same ballpark, while the base Acura Integra (with 200 horses) is about a second slower.
All-wheel drive is standard in the A3, providing reassurance in the wet and optimum traction in the dry. The ride quality is comfortable, and there’s also that special poise so many European cars have. As a general note, we’ve preferred the A3’s outward vision over its German rivals. We’ve done a multi-state drive in the A3 and relished every mile.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The A3 is rated at 28 mpg in combined city/highway driving. This compares well with the BMW 228 xDrive Gran Coupe, while the base Acura Integra runs to 33 mpg combined. Premium gasoline is recommended.

Stylish Exterior

In our opinion, the A3 luxury subcompact sedan speaks the usual highly stylish Audi design language, only in shorter sentences. We think the shapes and proportions all work exceptionally well. Metallic or pearl-effect paint costs an extra $595.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
Standard in every new A3, this allows users to integrate their phones without having to plug in a cable. Wireless phone charging is also available.
3-zone automatic climate control 
Three zones are better than two. This is standard across the 2026 A3 lineup and something we’d usually expect to see in bigger and pricier luxury cars.
Convenience package 
We recommend this options bundle offered with Premium trim, as it includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, self-dimming mirrors, and various other desirable features. Many of these items are standard in Premium Plus trim.
Sonos audio 
Not an especially well-known name in automotive audio, but the 15-speaker system that comes standard in Premium Plus trim sounds pretty good to us.
Virtual Cockpit Plus 
This 12.3-inch digital driver information display can be configured to show different types of information, including the navigation system’s maps. It’s easy to use, in our experience, and a great piece of equipment. It’s part of the MMI Experience Plus package available with Premium Plus trim.
MMI Experience Plus package 
Yes, let’s take a closer look at what else this bundle contains. There’s Audi’s MMI Navigation Plus, which includes satellite map images and the ability to obey voice commands. The package also includes Wi-Fi and road sign recognition.

Elegant Interior

The A3’s pleasant cabin includes multi-colored ambient lighting, along with typical Audi characteristics of elegant and innovative design, high-quality materials, and cool technology. Scale up the dimensions to fit into something bigger, and we think it would still work. Even the most affordable new A3 comes with a 10.25-inch driver information display, leather seating surfaces, 3-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen.
At 35.2 inches, we’ve found rear legroom acceptable for a subcompact sedan. However, trunk space isn’t so useful &#8212; 10.9 cubic feet is small for the class.

The A3 is the most affordable new Audi and comes with many attributes that distinguish its larger stablemates. For example, all-wheel drive is standard. There’s the excellent Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster in both trims. And the overall design has that restrained elegance so typical of <a href="http://www.kbb.com/audi/">Audi</a>. The current A3 generation launched for the 2022 model year, so even if the tech is hardly cutting-edge, it’s still relevant and useful.
There’s a lot to be said for subcompact luxury cars in general and the Audi A3 in particular. They’re a joy to drive every day of the week, nimble, and easy to park. And when they come with that special Audi prestige, then so much the better.

We recommend the Premium Plus trim for its extra equipment.
Looking at what else is out there, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/2-series/">BMW 2 Series</a> Gran Coupe is priced similarly to the A3, with the new-for-2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/cla/">Mercedes-Benz CLA</a> beginning higher. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/acura/integra/">Acura Integra</a> undercuts all three, but is front-wheel-drive (FWD) only. If a roomier cabin would be preferable, take a look at something like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/genesis/g70/">Genesis G70</a>, which starts a few thousand above the A3.

The A3’s drivetrain consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 201 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. It connects to a 7-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard.
A mild hybrid system augments this engine, helping it achieve peak output faster, smoothing out the fuel-saving stop/restart function, and allowing the car to &#8220;coast&#8221; on long downhill sections.
The higher-performance <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/s3/">S3</a> and even more muscular <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/rs-3/">RS 3</a> are each reviewed separately.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Audi’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. Roadside assistance is included. This is typical among European luxury car manufacturers.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
Earlier model years of the A3 have been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), the agency’s second-highest accolade. But it hasn’t done quite so well in updated tests. Previous versions of the A3 also took the maximum 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>), although not since 2020. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

Having received a minor spruce-up last year, the Audi A3 doesn’t come with any major changes this time around.

The Toyota Sequoia is the biggest and most capable SUV in Toyota’s lineup, and its hybrid powertrain beautifully blends performance with efficiency.

The 2026 Toyota Sequoia is powered by a 437-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine and an electric motor matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). This is the mightiest base engine in this class, and we’ve been positively dazzled by the Sequoia’s aggressiveness on-road and off.
Driving modes are Eco, Normal, and Sport. With a load-leveling rear air suspension, Comfort and Sport S+ modes are added, along with a user-customizable setting. We suggest experimenting with the settings and testing different trims when shopping, as the ride quality can feel harsh. This is most noticeable in combination with the large wheel/tire sizes of the Capstone trim. The Sequoia’s truck-based construction is great for towing, not so much for ride quality.
The TRD Sport package for the base SR5 naturally brings a sportier suspension. TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, and this division offers other treatments available for the Sequoia. The TRD Off-Road package has a different kind of specialist suspension, along with a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control. Meanwhile, TRD Pro is a dedicated trim that represents the peak of this big SUV’s off-road chops.
For those making good use of the Sequoia’s 9,000-pound towing ability (actually a maximum of 9,500 pounds in a properly equipped rear-drive SR5), the Tow Tech package helps out in the form of a Trailer Backup Guide and Straight Path Assist. Power-extendable side mirrors are also available.
One nitpick we have with the Toyota Sequoia is that it doesn’t offer a hands-free highway driving option. It might sound like we’re asking a lot, but the Sequoia’s rivals from Chevy, GMC, Ford, and Nissan all offer a hands-free highway driving option, which we love.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The hybrid Toyota Sequoia has the lowest fuel cost estimates in its class. Rear-wheel-drive models top out at 21 city/24 highway/22 combined mpg. With 4-wheel drive, combined fuel economy dips to 20 mpg. This puts the Sequoia at an advantage over the Jeep Wagoneer (20 mpg), Ford Expedition (19 mpg), Nissan Armada (18 mpg), and V8-powered Chevy Tahoe (17 mpg).
There are no other hybrids in this class, but the Chevy Tahoe and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/gmc/yukon/">GMC Yukon</a> are available with a 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine that gets up to 24 combined mpg. Although this GM diesel is the most efficient engine in its class, the Sequoia has lower <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated fuel costs due to the average price of regular-grade gas versus diesel.

Truck-Like Exterior

The Sequoia not only shares a platform with the Toyota Tundra pickup, but many of its styling cues are drawn from the Tundra as well. The result is a beefy but athletic look, providing the Sequoia with an aggressive, commanding presence.
Notably, the Toyota Sequoia is only available with one wheelbase and body length configuration, similar to the Nissan Armada. Its American rivals from Chevy, GMC, Ford, and Jeep all have bigger, long-wheelbase variants available for even more room.

12.3-inch driver information display 
This digital instrument cluster is standard throughout the trim level lineup, adding a welcome and contemporary touch to the cabin.
14-inch infotainment touchscreen 
This is standard in all but the base SR5 (where it’s optional, replacing an 8-inch display). The graphics are crisp and clear, and the system is user-friendly, incorporating voice control and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto phone integration.
Panoramic View Monitor 
This 360-degree camera system is standard across the Sequoia lineup. Because of the Sequoia’s size, we found this feature immensely useful when maneuvering this full-size SUV in tight situations.
Hybrid powertrain 
Hybrid power makes so much sense in a vehicle of this size and weight. And not just from a fuel economy point of view. The typical low-end thrust an electric motor provides is a useful asset on-road and off. We were impressed by just how responsive the extra oomph of the electric motor makes the Sequoia.
Off-road capability 
Although not many families will go off-roading in their Sequoia, they can still enjoy the confidence it inspires in bad weather. For those intrepid few venturing into the outback, a 4-wheel-drive Sequoia has a high/low transfer case and Crawl Control, a kind of low-speed cruise control for rough terrain — which we liked because we could devote all our attention to steering this beast.
Captain’s chairs 
Standard in the top three trims, a pair of these replaces the second-row bench. They can fold, recline, tumble forward, supply one-touch access to the third row, and even offer the option for heating and ventilation.

3-Row Interior

In SR5 and Limited trims, the Sequoia comes as an 8-seater, with a 3-person bench in the second row. In the three higher trims, this bench is replaced by a pair of captain’s chairs, raising comfort levels in that row and improving access to the rearmost seats.
The legroom in the third row tops out at 33.7 inches, making it a little tighter than many full-size SUVs we’ve tested. However, we really like that the Sequoia offers an optional sliding third row with nearly half a foot of travel to maximize passenger space or the cargo area. The Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe, and Jeep Wagoneer all have around three more inches of third-row legroom than the Sequoia, which is a significant difference.
Thanks to the sliding third-row seat, the cargo room behind can be anywhere between 11.5 cubic feet and 22.3 cubic feet. But even with the seat positioned to maximize cargo space, the Sequoia is still toward the bottom of the segment. With the second and third rows folded, the maximum cargo room is a class-low 86.9 cubic feet (the midsize <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/grand-highlander/">Toyota Grand Highlander</a> has a max cargo capacity of 97.5 cubic feet). That the third-row seat doesn’t fold flat with the cargo floor is a major contributor to the Sequoia’s tight cargo capacity. In other words, if you’re shopping primarily for a spacious family hauler, one of the Sequoia’s roomier rivals may be more suitable.
The Capstone trim is the plushest Sequoia ever. It features American Walnut wood, Shale Premium Textured leather-trimmed upholstery in an exclusive color scheme, a large infotainment touchscreen, and acoustic glass for the front side windows. The 1794 Edition offers a similar level of luxury but with a decidedly more Western theme.

Serving as the brand’s biggest and strongest SUV, the Toyota Sequoia manages to be both imposing and inviting. Its chassis, powertrain, and styling are derived from the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/tundra/">Tundra</a> full-size pickup, making it a capable rig for towing and off-roading. But the Sequoia also boasts a comfortable interior with modern technology, and its turbocharged hybrid powertrain is both the most powerful and most fuel-efficient base engine in the full-size SUV class. Its American rivals are roomier and perhaps more suitable for family hauling duties, but the Sequoia is powerful, capable, efficient, and comes with Toyota’s famous dependability and resale value.

Every Sequoia comes with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine and an electric motor, for a total output of 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. That’s more muscle than most of the competition. The closest in performance is the high-output version of the Ford Expedition, which makes 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.
In the Sequoia’s basic form, a 10-speed automatic transmission sends drive to the rear wheels. A 4-wheel-drive system with high/low gearing is optional on the SR5 and Limited trims and standard on every other trim.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Toyota’s basic new-vehicle warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first, with powertrain coverage of five years or 60,000 miles. This is typical among mainstream automakers. Hybrid-related components have a warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles; the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Toyota also includes free maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles.
<h3>Safety</h3>
As of now, no agencies in the United States have put the Sequoia through any crash-test programs or safety tests. However, Toyota equips this generation of Sequoia with lots of standard safety equipment, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection even in low-light conditions, cyclist detection in daylight, intersection assistance with automatic braking, emergency steering assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The upper trims of the Toyota Sequoia move a little farther upmarket for 2026. The top Capstone trim now has Shale Premium Textured leather-trimmed seats, and the Limited model is transitioning to standard leather seats with a new stitching pattern. Additionally, power-folding third-row seats are now standard across the lineup, and Wave Maker joins the color palette, exclusively for the TRD Pro trim.

The 2026 Chevy Tahoe is powered by a 355-horsepower V8 engine matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). This aging engine isn’t as powerful as the turbo 6-cylinder engines in its Ford and Jeep rivals, but it still has plenty of thrust, and it’s adequate for daily family-hauling duties.
Drivers seeking more muscle for towing regularly or just because they want more oomph will be interested in the bigger 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 hp or the Duramax turbodiesel 6-cylinder pumping out 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. We know most of you will go for a V8, but we’re partial to the diesel, which has both the highest torque rating and best fuel economy in the Tahoe’s engine lineup. Chevy and GMC are the only brands that offer a diesel in this class.
One of the reasons families love the Chevy Tahoe is its ride quality on long highway trips. The long wheelbase and compliant suspension (especially with the optional Magnetic Ride Control system) create a truly premium feel for the driver and passengers alike. The available <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/gms-super-cruise-now-covers-750000-miles-of-roads/">Super Cruise</a> hands-free highway driving system makes the Tahoe an even better road tripper.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The standard V8 in the Tahoe returns 15 city/20 highway/17 combined mpg. The bigger 6.2-liter V8 is equally efficient, but requires premium gas, yielding much higher fuel cost estimates. Meanwhile, the only diesel in this class gives the Tahoe up to 22 city/26 highway/24 combined mpg. That’s a better fuel economy rating than the hybrid Toyota Sequoia.
The turbocharged 6-cylinder engines in the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada are all more efficient than the V8s in the Tahoe. The Ford and Jeep don’t require premium fuel, but the Nissan does.

Large Exterior

At 17.5 feet long, the Tahoe full-size SUV takes up the same kind of space as the Ford Expedition. It’s big. But we think big is beautiful in this instance. The Tahoe got a midcycle refresh last year that included a revised front end and available 24-inch wheels. It helped keep this SUV looking fresh and modern.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
We always appreciate the ability to integrate a phone into a vehicle’s infotainment system. Especially when it’s wireless, we don’t have to dig that phone out of a pocket or purse.
Infotainment touchscreen 
A high-resolution 17.7-inch display comes standard in every new Tahoe. That’s big and really lends a more tech-rich feel to the cabin. We’re also fans of the easy-to-use infotainment system.
Hands-free tailgate 
It is one of those convenience features that gets used a lot. It’s standard in all Tahoe models except for the base LS.
Super Cruise 
With this optional superpower, you can drive on about 750,000 miles of North American highway with your hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals (but eyes on the road).
Trailering technology 
Features like Boat Ramp Assist and Trailer Navigation — which works out the ideal route while taking the trailer’s size into account — make towing much more manageable.
Z71 trim 
The rugged Tahoe Z71 is as capable as its macho aesthetic suggests. A few off-road upgrades include standard 4-wheel drive, extra ground clearance, hill descent control, all-terrain tires, and an appearance package with a favorable approach angle and a skid plate.

Huge Interior

If you’re shopping for a full-size SUV, space is probably important to you, so let’s start there. The Chevy Tahoe boasts 42 inches of second-row legroom and 34.9 inches of third-row legroom. The third row is still best reserved for kids, but has adequate room for average-sized adults.
Second- and third-row legroom in the Tahoe are about the same as the Ford Expedition and Jeep Wagoneer, but cargo space is a strength for the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/">Chevy</a>. The Tahoe has 25.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row (more than the Ford, slightly less than the Jeep) and class-leading maximum cargo capacity of 122.7 cubic feet.
But wedon’tt just love theTahoe’ss interior for its hugeness. It’s also full of modern and user-friendly technology. The previous year’s refresh brought a big update to the screens, namely, a standard 17.7-inch central infotainment screen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. We like this setup for being both high-tech and user-friendly. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, and a few desirable interior options include Bose audio, a power-sliding center console, a head-up display, and a rear camera mirror. Another nice touch is that all trims, except the base LS, have standard leather seats.

The Chevy Tahoe is, by far, the best-selling model in a competitive class of full-size SUVs. Part of that comes down to name recognition and brand loyalty, but there are many practical reasons why it’s so popular. The Tahoe achieves its goal of being a roomy family hauler with truck-like capabilities without compromise. Its lineup of three engines includes two V8s and a diesel, and it has some outstanding tech features like the Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system. The Tahoe lineup’s variety includes the no-nonsense LS, the rugged Z71, the luxurious High Country, and more, ensuring there’s something for everyone in its diverse model range. The base engine for the Chevy Tahoe SUV lineup is a 5.3-liter V8 generating 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The RST, Z71, and Premier trims offer the option of a 6.2-liter V8 developing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s standard in the top High Country trim. Unless it’s the LS, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, generating 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, is an option.
All three engines connect to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup, with 4-wheel drive on the options list or standard in the Z71. The rear-wheel-drive version with the smaller V8 engine achieves the maximum towing capacity of 8,200 pounds. For comparison, the Jeep Wagoneer can pull up to 10,000 pounds.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Chevrolet’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers. The first scheduled service is also included.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The Tahoe earned the top 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Testing from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) is a bit mixed; it got a “Poor” score in the moderate overlap front crash test and either “Good” or “Acceptable” in every other category. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and an HD Surround Vision camera.

What's new for 2026

The Chevy Tahoe got a significant refresh for 2025, so it gets minor updates for 2026. A couple of new features include a Key Card, which is a card you can use as a key, and Cabin Glance, an in-car camera system letting the driver monitor activity in the back seats. We’ve seen this feature in minivans, and it’s getting more common in big SUVs. There’s also a new RST Dark Essentials appearance package and updated paint and wheel options.

The 2026 BMW M5 exists in that exclusive class of gloriously powerful and sporty midsize luxury cars.

The M5 develops a total of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful M5 to date. Which is really saying something. This is an awesome amount of muscle, capable of propelling the sedan from standstill to 60 mph in a rapid 3.4 seconds (the Touring is a tenth slower). And it just keeps dashing, with the ability to thrust from 50 mph to 75 mph in a mere 2.2 seconds. The M5 also has a 47-hp edge over the much pricier Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid, although that doesn’t translate to a faster sprint time. This Porsche clocks in at three seconds flat.
Which brings us to our one minor gripe. For all that impressive muscle, the 2026 M5’s extra hybrid hardware has added weight, making it a couple of tenths of a second slower to 60 mph than its 600-hp predecessor. We’re prepared to accept, though, that this may be academic while in the throes of acceleration.
An adaptive M-tuned suspension is part of the whole package, enhancing comfort at one end of the dynamics envelope, while containing body roll at the other. Integral Active Steering — BMW’s name for rear-wheel steering — is also standard in the 2026 M5, contributing to agility and maneuverability, and making this midsize car seem a tad smaller than it really is. We also like how the steering feels — there’s a decent amount of tactile feedback. And the brakes hit the usual high level of excellence that we admire so much in BMW cars.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
BMW didn’t pair a twin-turbocharged V8 with an electric motor to make the M5 a fuel-sipper. The idea was to strap together two sources of power for the sheer thrill of it. These M5 variants are plug-in hybrids, yet still subject to a gas guzzler tax. The M5 sedan achieves the equivalent of 50 mpg combined (50 MPGe) or 14 mpg combined if the battery doesn’t have sufficient juice. The electric-only range is 27 miles.
The M5 Touring wagon manages 54 MPGe combined, or 13 mpg combined, with a battery-powered range of 25 miles.
For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid sedan runs to 59 MPGe combined/23 mpg combined, while its battery is capable of 43 miles.

Focused Exterior

Apart from the obvious difference of a wagon body with the M5 Touring, the M5 has its own look to differentiate it from the rest of the 5 Series sedan lineup. This includes various aerodynamic additions, a wider body with redesigned wheel arches to accommodate the large wheel/tire combination, and a quad exhaust system — plus a palette of exclusive metallic paint choices that includes Isle of Man Green, Marina Bay Blue, and the matte Frozen Deep Grey.
Under the skin, BMW has increased the body’s rigidity compared with the regular 5 Series. The company also offers an optional carbon roof for the sedan, reducing weight by 66 pounds and lowering the center of gravity.

BMW Curved Display 
A common sight in contemporary BMW vehicles, but — in our opinion — no less impressive because of it. This is the single housing that contains the 12.3-inch configurable instrument cluster and the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, both with sharp graphics. BMW also offers streaming and gaming in the M5.
M Hybrid modes 
In Comfort mode, the system leans more on the electric motor. In Sport and Sport Plus, the combustion engine is always in action. The two optional Dynamic and Dynamic Plus modes are for track use, delivering as much power as possible, for either a series of laps (Dynamic) or a quicker burst (Dynamic Plus).
Adaptive LED headlights with cornering function 
This is one of those features we’ve really liked in other vehicles and miss when it’s not there. Being able to throw light into corners is especially useful given how fast the M5 can zip around them.
Bowers &amp; Wilkins audio 
Often at the pricier end of BMW’s options lists, this 18-speaker/655-watt surround-sound system is standard in the M5. We love B&amp;W stuff for the clarity, power, and detail.
Carbon ceramic brakes 
An expensive option, but one we’d recommend to anyone planning to take their M5 for a few track-day blasts. They’re strong, fade-free, warp-free, and 55 pounds lighter than the standard setup. These are offered with the M5 Touring as well.
BMW Digital Key Plus 
M5 owners and a lucky few friends and family members can access and drive the M5 using their Apple iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device.

Intelligent Interior

High tech and fine leather combine with well-cushioned and well-shaped front seats to give the M5 the upscale air it deserves. We already like the cabin of the regular 5 Series and appreciate its exemplary build quality as well as the intelligent layout. Although BMW says the hybrid battery hasn’t encroached upon cabin or cargo space, the M5 has lost of bit of rear legroom, shrinking from 37.5 inches of rear legroom to 36.2 inches. It&#8217;s also impacted the trunk, which is a generous 18.4 cubic feet in the regular sedan and just 16.5 in the M5 sedan. The M5 Touring adds wagon versatility and practicality, with 17.7 cubic feet behind the 40/20/40 rear seats, opening out to 57.6 cubic feet when they’re folded down.

Stunning. Gobsmacking. Useful. With that third word, we’re thinking of the M5 Touring wagon more than the M5 sedan, but the latter has quite a large trunk, nevertheless.
We can imagine someone from <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> putting on their best Liam Neeson voice and saying the company has made a car with a particular set of skills. Of course, the M5 has had these skills honed over a long career of being the sportiest, highest-performance iteration of the wonderful BMW 5 Series midsize luxury car. This latest generation debuted last year and rewrites the usual performance-car script by packing a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

There’s also a gas guzzler tax of $2,100 for the M5 sedan and $2,600 for the Touring wagon that should be added to those figures.
Looking at possible rivals, in order to get even close to the M5’s power in the (admittedly larger) <a href="https://www.kbb.com/porsche/panamera/">Porsche Panamera</a> means going for the Turbo E-Hybrid, which starts above $200K. There’s also the 577-horsepower <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-e-class/">Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid</a> sedan, beginning below the M5, while the 621-hp <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/rs-6/">Audi RS 6 Avant</a> is closer to $130K.
