Following a brief hiatus after the discontinuation of the previous generation of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/dodge/charger/2023/">Dodge Charger in 2023</a>, a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/report-dodge-speeding-gas-powered-charger-plan/">gas engine option has returned</a> to the Dodge Charger in 2026. After spending a couple of years exclusively available as the Charger Daytona EV (which we <a href="https://www.kbb.com/dodge/charger-daytona/">review separately</a>), a more affordable Charger with a 6-cylinder gas engine should have more mainstream appeal. Since it&#8217;s available in both 2-door coupe and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/dodge-debuts-4-door-charger/">4-door sedan</a> body styles, it effectively replaces both the Charger and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/dodge/challenger/">Challenger</a> of yore. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard, two outputs are available, and it has interior space you can actually use, making this a practical muscle car.
<h3>On-Sale Date</h3>
We expect the gas-powered 2026 Dodge Charger to arrive in U.S. dealerships in early 2026. It will be offered alongside the Dodge Charger Daytona EV.
<h3>Engine and Transmission</h3>
The 2026 Dodge Charger is powered by the Hurricane 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, available with a standard output and a high output. Although it doesn’t have the same sound or grit as the Hemi V8 options in the old Charger, we’ve been impressed with the Hurricane engine in <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ram/">Ram</a> trucks and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/jeep/">Jeep</a> SUVs.
The entry-level R/T trim produces 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, while the high-output Scat Pack version makes 550 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. Those are better performance specs than the old Charger R/T and Charger Scat Pack, respectively. All of the above use an 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard across the board. For a purer muscle car experience, the Charger has on-demand rear-wheel drive (RWD), bringing the tire-smoking fun.

Pricing - Static

If the pricing of the gas-powered Charger seems a little steep, it actually isn&#8217;t far off from the V8-powered 2023 Dodge Charger R/T, which had a lower output and no all-wheel drive option. Here&#8217;s hoping Dodge comes up with a milder and more affordable GT or SXT variant. In the small world of American muscle cars, the Charger is priced similarly to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ford/mustang/">Ford Mustang</a> GT, which keeps the V8 faith.

Power, Ride, and Handling

New for 2026, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) EQE 320 enjoys 315 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque from a single electric motor. It will accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds &#8212; somewhat brisk and a couple of tenths quicker than last year’s EQE 350.
To compare, the entry-level Audi A6 Sportback e-tron has 375 hp and can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, while the 335-hp BMW i5 eDrive40 can do the same sprint in 5.7 seconds.
Funnily enough, the same 315 hp/417 lb-ft output is achieved by the EQE 320 4Matic with all-wheel drive (AWD) and two electric motors. The extra traction helps this car sprint to 60 mph 0.3 of a second faster than its stablemate.
We’ll go into more depth when we get to drive these cars. As for ride quality, we always like luxuriating in the smooth ride of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and often marvel at how utterly unflustered they can be. The EQE sedan certainly feels this way. And electric power complements the calmness perfectly, thanks to its virtually silent operation. The floor-mounted battery, meanwhile, helps create a low center of gravity, resulting in a pleasant amount of agility and plenty of stability. Optional rear-wheel steering enhances that stability on the highway, adds greater poise on twisting roads, and brings the tight turning radius of a much smaller car &#8212; which is a boon around town.
The high-performance <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-eqe/">AMG EQE sedan</a> has its own review. So does the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqe-suv/">EQE SUV</a>.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Maximum range is 308 miles, achieved by the rear-drive EQE 320. That pretty much matches the BMW i5’s best, although both are eclipsed by the 392 miles of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron.
It takes 32 minutes to recharge the battery from 10% to 80% with a DC fast charger. That’s similar to the BMW i5, and about 10 minutes longer than the best time of the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron.
Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce the all-wheel-drive 2026 EQE 320 4Matic’s range.

Aerodynamic Exterior

Although it’s a midsize luxury sedan, the EQE rides on a different platform than that of the combustion-powered E-Class. The EQE is about three inches longer and follows a design language similar to the EQS flagship model. It’s still unmistakably a Mercedes-Benz — thanks to the usual understated elegance — but also has a more aerodynamic, more futuristic look than an E-Class. New alloy wheel designs are added for 2026.
Unlike many other electric vehicles, there’s no storage area under the hood. In fact, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t want its clients rummaging around under there. To top up the windshield washer fluid, there’s a pop-out nozzle on the driver&#8217;s-side front fender.

Our Favorite Features and Tech

Burmester audio 
It’s optional, but this high-quality 15-speaker, 710-watt surround-sound system available in the EQE sedan is one of our favorites. It includes immersive Dolby Atmos technology.
Biometric authentication 
Owners can store up to seven user profiles, each activated by a fingerprint reader. It’s gimmicky, sure, but we also think it’s cool and science-fiction-esque.
Panoramic sunroof 
A panoramic sunroof is standard with the 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, contributing to the spacious cabin’s airy ambiance.
Hyperscreen 
The optional high-resolution Hyperscreen dash features three screens under one 56-inch curved glass surface: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch central OLED touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger.
Augmented reality 
This optional feature is particularly cool. Street names and direction arrows are superimposed on the navigation display over real-time video of the road. It adds confidence and convenience when trying to reach a destination.
Airmatic adaptive air suspension 
This adaptive suspension enables a range of settings from super-comfortable to somewhat sporty.

High-Tech, Deep-Luxury Interior

Knowing whether to go “ooh” or “ahh” is difficult. The oohs are for the gadgets, like the optional full-width Hyperscreen. The ahhs happen when you settle into the supremely comfortable seats and run a hand over the fine cabin materials. We also like the overall interior design — modern yet welcoming.
There’s more space in here than in the already roomy E-Class. And with no transmission tunnel encroaching on the floor area, rear passengers have plenty of leeway to stretch out, including 38.2 inches of legroom. Just be sure to bend down a little more than usual when climbing in, because the roofline swoops down markedly.
Unlike the larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqs/">EQS sedan</a>, which has a hatchback like the Porsche Panamera, this EQE employs a conventional trunk. At 10.9 cubic feet, it’s on the small side. If this aspect is important, the BMW i5’s trunk area is 17.3 cubic feet. Meanwhile, cargo space in the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron goes from 26 cubic feet behind the rear seats to 39.3 cubic feet with those seats folded.

Now in its third model year, it feels like <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> is still trying to make the EQE fit into the market somehow. Or perhaps not trying at all, as the future of the EQE is not looking rosy. Although we have pricing and updated information on the 2026 model, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/reports-mercedes-stops-taking-most-ev-orders-in-u-s/">Mercedes-Benz is apparently rethinking which electric vehicles it’s bringing into the United States</a>.
It would be a shame if the EQE becomes history. After all, it’s been one of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/electric-car/best-luxury-electric-cars/">our highest-ranking cars in its sector</a>. But it seems we’re in a time of general upheaval anyway, so we’ll have to see how it all pans out. We have checked with Mercedes-Benz, though, and can confirm that the EQE is around for 2026, at least.

Other all-electric midsize luxury cars worthy of consideration are the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/a6-sportback-e-tron/">Audi A6 Sportback e-tron</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i5/2025/">BMW i5</a>, starting in the same financial bracket as the EQE. We expect resale values to be at least average for the class, if not a little better. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

Battery and Efficiency

The EQE with one motor has a bigger battery than its dual-motor stablemate. The rear-drive EQE 320 employs a power pack with a usable capacity of 96 kilowatt-hours (kWh), while the all-wheel-drive EQE 320 4Matic makes do with 90.5 kWh.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Mercedes-Benz has new-car and powertrain warranties of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. These terms are typical in the luxury sector. The EQE’s battery is covered for 10 years or 155,000 miles, which is more generous than usual.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
Although the Mercedes-EQ EQE sedan hasn’t been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States, it earned a maximum five stars overall from a similar program across the Atlantic: Euro NCAP.

What's new for

Last year’s EQE 350 cars are replaced by 2026 EQE 320 and EQE 320 4Matic models. The EQE 500 4Matic has been discontinued for the United States. We say hello to a standard NACS adapter, so EQE users can plug into Tesla Superchargers. Meanwhile, we say goodbye to the haptic accelerator pedal in Eco mode, beginner/valet driving mode, the Acoustic Comfort package, the optional heated windshield, and the black microfiber headliner. Both the Hyperscreen and Burmester audio system were standard last year, but they’ve migrated to the options list for 2026. Mercedes-Benz now offers a new Winter Package with a heated windshield washer system, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats.
The upside to this de-contenting and the streamlined choices is that the 2026 EQE now begins about $10,000 less than before.

The value-packed Toyota Corolla holds up its reputation as an efficient, safe, and reliable commuter.

The 2026 Toyota Corolla is powered by a 169-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. We’ve found it delivers enough pep to get around town and to cruise comfortably on the highway. Acceleration builds sufficiently quickly for daily driving duties and improves over the weaker base engine, equipping the earlier model years of this generation. Driving with the paddle shifters on the SE and XSE trims gets a little more engaging. Overall, the ride is compliant, the seats are comfortable, and it’s hard to find fault in how it drives.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The popular LE trim of the Corolla has an impressive <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated fuel economy rating of 32 city/41 highway/35 combined mpg. It’s slightly more efficient (and more powerful) than its entry-level counterparts in the compact sedan segment. The upper trims lose one mpg in combined driving. If efficiency is a high priority, the Corolla Hybrid, reviewed separately, earns up to 47 mpg combined.

Subtle Exterior

The aesthetics of the Toyota Corolla are humble yet stylish. The SE and XSE trims look a little sportier than the base LE model, with revised front and rear fascias and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Smartphone connectivity 
We love to see wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity come standard in affordable cars. These features make it easy to bring your maps, music, and more from your phone to the screen in your car without fussing with wires.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 
The standard safety tech suite in the Corolla bundles many desirable features. It has automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-tracing assist, road sign assist, and automatic high beams.
Adaptive Cruise Control 
Another technology included with Safety Sense 3.0 is this set-it-and-forget-it cruise control. Once set, it maintains a safe distance from the car ahead, automatically slowing and speeding up as needed.
Smart Key 
Toyota’s version of proximity keyless entry automatically unlocks the Corolla as long as the key fob is on your person. We truly miss this convenience feature when testing a car without it. It’s standard beginning with the SE trim.
8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia 
The standard 8-inch touchscreen in the Corolla houses features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, and over-the-air updates. If you want a larger touchscreen, a 10.5-inch screen comes standard in the XSE trim and as an option in the SE.
Intelligent Assistant 
This optional feature on the Corolla adds a cool piece of modern tech to this compact. Just say, “Hey, Toyota,” the infotainment system acts like a smart speaker responding to voice commands. We used it to get directions, control the audio, change the cabin temperature, and more.

Practical Interior

We found the interior quality of the Corolla to be pretty good for a compact car at this price point. The standard cloth seats are comfortable, and the upper trims get SofTex faux leather seating. As for the 8-inch infotainment screen (and available 10.5-inch touchscreen), we love that it has standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A welcome upgrade this year is a standard 7-inch digital gauge cluster, upgradeable to a 12.3-inch display, making the Corolla a little more high-tech.
The rear seats have 34.8 inches of legroom, which is adequate for most adults but just okay for this class. The trunk has 13.1 cubic feet of volume, which is on the smaller side for this segment. We also found it oddly challenging to fold down the rear seats because of the awkward placement of the latches behind the headrests.
For reference, the roomier Honda Civic sedan boasts 37.4 inches of rear legroom and has a 14.8 cubic-foot trunk. If you want more cargo room and flexibility, consider the Corolla Hatchback.

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best cars money can buy for someone who just doesn’t want to have to worry about their car. It upholds its decades-old reputation as a safe, reliable, and fuel-efficient car that’s affordable both to buy and to own. A simple model range for 2026 makes it an easy car to shop for, and it gets a couple of tech upgrades this year, like standard blind-spot monitoring and a digital gauge cluster. We&#8217;re focusing on the non-hybrid sedan in this review; the Corolla has a thrifty <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-hybrid/">hybrid</a> version, a roomier <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-hatchback/">hatchback</a> variant, and an exhilarating <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/gr-corolla/">GR</a> model, all of which we review separately.

Engine and Transmission

The Toyota Corolla is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Within the compact sedan class, only the Mazda3 boasts higher horsepower and torque numbers in a base engine. Output is sent to the Corolla’s front wheels via an automatic transmission (of the continuously variable variety). All-wheel drive is only available in the hybrid version of the Corolla.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Toyota Corolla is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Toyota also throws in a 2-year/25,000-mile complimentary maintenance plan.

This change leaves just the base LE, midrange SE, and premium XSE trims.
<a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/">Toyota</a> updated the Corolla with some new standard features for 2026. A 7-inch digital gauge cluster and blind-spot monitoring are standard, even on the base trim. The XSE trim gets a bigger 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (optional on the SE).

The Honda Odyssey is one of our favorite family vehicles for its infinitely useful interior, trusty powertrain, and user-friendly tech.

The 2026 Honda Odyssey is powered by a 280-horsepower V6 engine matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). We found this tried-and-true powertrain to be a perfect match for the Odyssey, giving it the right amount of muscle to confidently haul a van full of passengers and cargo. The horsepower rating is almost identical to the base engines in the Kia Carnival and Chrysler Pacifica. However, its more efficient hybrid rivals (Toyota Sienna, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/carnival-hybrid/">Kia Carnival Hybrid</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/pacifica-hybrid/">Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid</a>) are notably slower.
The Honda Odyssey has agreeable driving manners in the city and on the highway. We’ve found the ride smooth and comfortable, and the steering precise. It’s a bit lower to the ground than the average minivan, which helps give it — dare we say — sportier driving dynamics than most rivals. The Odyssey is a family car that’s almost effortless to drive, especially thanks to the standard Honda Sensing driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Honda Odyssey&#8217;s <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated combined fuel economy rating is 22 mpg. That’s identical to the non-hybrid, front-wheel-drive version of the Chrysler Pacifica and one mpg better than the non-hybrid Kia Carnival.
The hybrid Toyota Sienna gets up to 36 mpg, the Kia Carnival Hybrid returns 33 mpg, and the plug-in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica can travel up to 32 miles on electricity alone and then gets 30 mpg in hybrid mode.

Slick Exterior

This is the longest-running generation of the Honda Odyssey in its 31-year history. That means it’s getting pretty familiar, but we think its unique design is aging well, especially with last year’s refresh. The 2025 model got revised front and rear fascias and new wheel designs, helping to keep it fresh. We also like its characteristic &#8220;lightning bolt&#8221; body line that gives it more visual flair than a minivan really needs.

Power sliding doors 
Yes, every minivan has sliding doors, but this is one of the most significant benefits of a minivan. Once you’ve lived with them, the standard power sliding doors on the Odyssey (which you can open and close with the key fob) will make you forget all about SUVs.
Honda Sensing 
The standard Honda Sensing safety tech suite bundles driver assistance features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Magic Slide seats 
The second-row captain’s chairs in the Odyssey can slide sideways when the middle seat is removed, giving the Odyssey the most easily accessible third row we’ve tested. It also gives you the choice of having seven seats or eight.
Rear entertainment system 
This feature is becoming a rarity, and it’s great for families who don’t do tablets. It has a 12.8-inch screen, and there’s an HDMI port in the console so that you can stream just about anything. However, it no longer comes with a Blu-ray player.
CabinWatch and CabinTalk 
These interior camera and intercom systems make it simple to monitor your passengers and communicate with the whole crew without having to shout.
Wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay 
We love the convenience that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We love it even more when it’s wireless.

Useful Interior

The Honda Odyssey’s biggest strength is its interior. This vast 3-row interior has seating for up to eight. The seats in all three rows are roomy and comfortable for daily errand running and long-distance road trips. As for tech, the infotainment system has a 9-inch screen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
A unique feature of the Odyssey is the Magic Slide second-row seats. With the second-row middle seat removed, the captain’s chairs can slide sideways. You can put them right next to each other in what Honda calls &#8220;Buddy Mode,&#8221; creating easy entry and exit to and from the third row.
We’ve tested this system with real-life children in all three rows, and it’s the easiest and most convenient way to load up a car with kids, especially if you have rear-facing car seats in the second row. Many 3-row vehicles have little tricks and gimmicks to make the third row easier to get in and out of, but Honda’s Magic Slide is simply the best system of its kind that we’ve tested.
There isn’t a bad seat inside the Honda Odyssey, even for adults. This minivan has 40.9 inches of second-row legroom and 38.1 inches of third-row legroom. That’s class-leading second-row legroom and above-average third-row legroom.
The total cargo space behind the first row is 140.7 cubic feet. That’s just a bit behind the class-leading Kia Carnival with 145.1 cubic feet of total cargo room. When the third row effortlessly folds flat into the floor, the Odyssey boasts prodigious cargo room behind the second row with 86.6 cubic feet of room, and there’s 32.8 cubic feet of space behind the third row.
Practicality comes before luxury in minivans, but the Odyssey is very nice inside. With the EX model gone, leather seating comes standard in every trim of the 2026 Odyssey. It still has its fair share of durable and easy-to-clean plastics inside, but it gets pretty fancy in the upper trims, especially with the two-tone perforated leather seats in the Elite model.

The Honda Odyssey has been a trusted name in minivans for over 30 years for good reasons. It’s long served as one of our favorites in a competitive class of minivans for getting just about everything right. Its interior is spacious for both passengers and cargo, and it has some unique features that give it the most easily accessible third row of anything we’ve driven. On the tech front, it has the safety tech you need, like Honda Sensing, and the infotainment tech you want, like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Top it all off with a trusted powertrain, excellent resale value, and stellar safety ratings, and you have a near-perfect family hauler in the venerable Honda Odyssey.

The Honda Odyssey has an above-average starting price for a minivan. That’s because <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/">Honda</a> eliminated its base EX trim last year, leaving the well-equipped EX-L as its new entry-level model. When compared to a competing minivan with similar features, the Odyssey’s pricing is about average.
Before buying an Odyssey, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. Although the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/sienna/">Toyota Sienna</a> is the king of minivan resale value, the Honda Odyssey comes in a close second, holding its value better than the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/carnival/">Kia Carnival</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/pacifica/">Chrysler Pacifica</a>. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

A 3.5-liter V6 engine powers every Honda Odyssey. It delivers a healthy 280 horsepower, giving it performance that’s about average for a non-hybrid minivan, and the 10-speed transmission shifts quickly and smoothly. We like this powertrain, but it makes the Odyssey the only minivan on the market that is unavailable as a hybrid.
All-wheel drive (AWD) isn’t available for the Odyssey, which might make the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica more appealing to drivers in snowy climates. However, the Odyssey does have a Snow mode that recalibrates the transmission and traction control system for optimal traction on snowy roads.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The Honda Odyssey is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. You also get two years/24,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance. This coverage is about average for a minivan.

Every 2026 Crosstrek sources thrust from a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. We’ve put this mill through its paces on-road and off, coming away satisfied with its performance.
We are fans of the Crosstrek suspension. We like the way it handles rougher pavement and even unpaved surfaces. The Crosstrek’s steering remains sharp and responsive.
With decades of experience with all-wheel drive — <a href="http://www.kbb.com/subaru/">Subaru</a> was once considered quirky for its standard all-wheel drive — the Subaru Symmetrical AWD system operates transparently. It constantly adjusts the amount of torque to the wheels. Switching to X-Mode provides some additional all-wheel-drive response. It still doesn’t allow this SUV to tackle the most severe terrain, but it improves typical off-road experiences. We were impressed with its seamless reaction and relentless forward motion when driving it on dirt paths in hilly terrain. The Crosstrek’s hill-descent control — sort of slow-speed cruise control — is another bright spot. We found it tremendously effective, freeing our focus on steering.
In testing the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2024-subaru-crosstrek-wilderness-can-really-get-you-there/">Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness</a> model in Utah, we were surprised and delighted at how scrappy this most off-road-centric trim is. Its extra ground clearance, improved approach and departure angles, and enhanced off-road hardware and software enabled this model to eat up miles and miles of single-track dirt roads with ease. Moreover, it effortlessly ascended and descended technical dirt trails that might leave competitors in pieces. It also boasts a sophisticated dual-mode X-Mode feature with settings for dirt, deep snow, and mud. The Crosstrek Wilderness can tow up to 3,500 pounds — 2,000 more than the other trims.
Fuel Economy
The Crosstrek delivers an <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-estimated 29 mpg in mixed city/highway driving. Despite its standard all-wheel drive, this number is about average for the segment populated primarily with entry-level front-wheel-drive rivals. It betters the Ford Bronco Sport&#8217;s 27 mpg and matches the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/cx-30/">Mazda CX-30</a>, both of which also boast standard all-wheel drive.

Yep, It’s a Crosstrek

In a parking lot, at an intersection, or pounding down a dirt trail, there is no mistaking the Crosstrek for anything else, even at a distance. Although the details have evolved, the Crosstrek’s basic shape and design theme remain warmly familiar.
Standing out from the rest of the Crosstrek lineup, the Wilderness grade proffers a more distinct, rugged appearance. Additional ground clearance, aggressive cladding with &#8220;SUBARU&#8221; lettering on the back, yellow accents, and 17-inch black wheels spotlight the styling enhancements.

Standard all-wheel drive 
Subaru’s standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is among the most sophisticated and capable in the segment. We find it is more than eager to tackle dirt and gravel trails.
8.7 inches of ground clearance 
We argue that a key contributor to the Crosstrek’s off-road superiority is its class-leading ground clearance.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto 
Smartphone integration is even better when the connection happens automatically. In our experience, seamless connecting and no cables cluttering the center console are reasons enough to insist on wireless smartphone interfacing. Wireless phone charging is also available.
Large touchscreen 
All but the base Crosstrek feature an interior-dominating, vertically oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen and robust infotainment offering. We think it’s worth skipping the base model and its dual 7-inch screen setup. Sometimes bigger is better, and we find that the bigger touchscreen is much easier to see and operate.
EyeSight driver assists 
Every Crosstrek features the latest version of Subaru’s EyeSight collection of driver assist and safety technologies. It includes some of our must-have tech, such as automatic emergency braking and steering, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and automatic high beams.
Steering Responsive LED Headlights 
The Crosstrek’s headlights turn in relation to the wheels, helping you see further into a corner. We&#8217;ve found this feature surprisingly helpful when navigating dark roads or turning into dark driveways.

Functional Cabin

We are in awe of just how quiet the cabin of the current Crosstrek is because previous generations wore their coarseness like a badge of honor. Those familiar with Crosstrek over the years should be equally surprised by the hush and pliant ride of today’s model.
Enhancing the cabin’s upgraded experience are the comfy front seats with loads of padding to absorb the abuse of going off pavement. There is still plenty of plastic haunting this roomy space. However, on the other hand, it does make it easier to wipe down. At 54.7 cubic feet and 36.5 inches, respectively, total cargo room and rear seat legroom are about average for the segment.

Anchoring Subaru’s SUV lineup, the all-wheel drive, subcompact 2026 Subaru Crosstrek combines a go-anywhere attitude with solid fuel economy and adventurous flair. There is good reason why the Crosstrek is near the top of the heap of the brand’s bestsellers: It is a serious value, uncomplicated in its operation, impressively functional, and yet, quite comfortable. Bottom line: Everything about it appeals to us.

Historically, the Premium trim is the best-selling Crosstrek grade and the one we recommend because for the extra $1,000 it costs over the base model, you score a lot of upgrades. For example, bigger 17-inch wheels, a bigger 11.6-inch infotainment display, USB-C ports, and more are among the improvements.
Because of its standard all-wheel drive, the Crosstrek’s pricing is on the higher end of the subcompact SUV scale. In fact, there are only a couple of rivals, like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ford/bronco-sport/">Ford Bronco Sport</a>, with higher starting prices.
Superb Resale Value
The Subaru Crosstrek is a resale value superstar, and could return $6,000 more to your pocket when you sell compared to subcompact SUVs at the bottom of the resale value charts. Recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.

Engine & Transmission

Subaru powers the Crosstrek with a 180-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that also generates 178 lb-ft of torque. Keeping it simple, the &#8220;flat&#8221; engine is a Subaru trait, referring to the cylinders being horizontally opposed rather than arranged vertically in a line or opposed in a V shape. The advantage is a lower center of gravity, which enhances stability.
Every Crosstrek comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is an automatic transmission using belts and pulleys rather than gears. It does help stretch fuel. Subaru has evolved its CVT to soften the artificial shift points. You can even pretend to switch the gears in models with the steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
3-year/36,000-mile Warranty
Subaru covers its vehicles with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain protection. This is on-par coverage among non-luxury automakers.
Safety
In safety and crash testing, the Crosstrek earned the <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s</a> (NHTSA) highest overall score of a 5-Star rating. It struggled with the two new tests performed by the <a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Insurance Institute for Highway Safety</a> (IIHS); however, this same generation had previously been included in the IIHS list of its Top Safety Pick (TSP) models.

Topping the Crosstrek’s what’s-new list is its hybrid powertrain version, which we detail separately. More big news is that Subaru made the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine standard across all trim levels. This is a big upgrade for the base model. The Limited and Wilderness grades get a heated steering wheel as standard.
