The M3 has always been so much more than just a fast 3 Series. In our opinion, it’s one of the finest creations a car company has ever built. Anyone who loves driving needs to own one at least once in their lives.
The regular M3 is propelled by 473 hp going to the rear wheels and its transmission is a 6-speed manual. That sentence in itself signals nirvana for a section of the driving enthusiast community. According to BMW, the sprint from standstill to 60 mph takes just 4.1 seconds. Then again, BMW tends to understate and over-deliver rather than the other way around. Let’s just say it’s wonderfully quick. The Mercedes-AMG C 43 (402 hp) has the advantage of a tenth or two, however. Not that it really matters. After all, it’s the way the M3 balances power with precise handling that seals the deal.
The M3 Competition ups the muscle to 503 hp, while the all-wheel-drive M3 Competition xDrive is boosted to 523 horses and hits 60 mph in a fleeting 3.4 seconds. These two come with an 8-speed automatic transmission exclusively. It is tuned by the M division, though, and has paddle shifters. The xDrive system includes a setting for rear-wheel drive (RWD) and no traction control, for some track-day power-sliding. If we had to choose, though, we might still go for a rear-drive M3 because it has less weight at the front end.
An M-tuned adaptive suspension is standard <a href="https://www.kbb.com/compare-cars/results?vehicleIds=477290|477241|477338/">across the board</a>, while the optional carbon ceramic brakes can withstand all sorts of fast-lap punishment and they’re lighter than the usual metal items.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The M3 achieves 19 mpg in combined city/highway driving, or 18 mpg combined if it’s an M3 Competition xDrive model. We don’t think that’s a negative, given the power numbers involved. For reference, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 (with all-wheel drive) returns 23 mpg combined.

The M3 sits low on its suspension, wearing aerodynamic additions for efficient cooling and downforce. It also has a carbon fiber roof to lower the center of gravity and save weight (the enemy of performance) as well as an aluminum hood. Previous M3 generations were coupes, until BMW created the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/4-series/">4 Series</a>. Infotainment system 
We’ve found the infotainment system in the M3 easy to use. The standard navigation system includes BMW Maps, and the voice command feature can obey spoken requests to open (or close) the sunroof, for example. BMW has refined the operating system to reduce the number of actions required to access and change a function. Augmented Reality is also available for the navigation feature, with superimposed direction arrows that help at things like confusing intersections.
Manual transmission 
Science has progressed to the point of particle accelerators and gene splicing, and here we are still yammering on about stick shifts. Because it’s yet another way of engaging with the M3, putting more attention into the driving experience. And one thing we’re sure will never change is that the more you put into something, the more you get out of it.
Harman Kardon audio 
There will be times when the M3 can’t make its own music, which is when this standard 16-speaker/464-watt surround-sound system becomes especially welcome.
All-wheel drive 
A popular option with M3 buyers, all-wheel drive helps apply the power to the road, as well as providing confidence in tricky conditions. Naturally, this system has been tuned by the M engineers.
Carbon Package 
This bundle includes carbon ceramic brakes, an M Track driving mode with a drift analyzer and lap timer, carbon fiber sport front seats, and a day’s high-performance driving tuition.
Parking Assistance package 
As well as steering the M3 into and out of parking spaces, this optional bundle also includes automatic reverse emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system.

High-Quality Interior

We like the flat-bottomed steering wheel in the 2026 M3, making it easy to slide our knees under. And the red marker at the 12 o’clock position is cool. Having the wheel wrapped in suede-like Alcantara material is also a tempting option. The M3 comes with sport front seats (with the option of lighter, sportier versions) covered in standard leather upholstery, while there’s still a lot of the regular 3 Series in the cabin.
The quality of materials and how they’ve been put together is at the usual top-notch BMW level. The impressive Curved Display is a standard feature in the 2026 M3. It’s a frameless glass-covered unit housing a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an expansive 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, each with high-resolution graphics.
Although the overall 3 Series falls into the category of compact luxury sedan, each generation has been bigger than the one before. So this M3 variant is relatively spacious. Rear legroom is 35.2 inches — not ideal for average-sized adults or bigger, but pretty much as good as anything else in this class. Behind the 40/20/40 split/folding rear seats, trunk space measures a generous 16.9 cubic feet.

Pricing - Static

We can see why the M3 Competition xDrive is a popular choice among M3 buyers — that ultimate grip and traction as well as the extra power is a heady combination. Even so, this is a car for enthusiast drivers and the base model’s manual transmission brings another level of engagement. We’ve also found 473 hp to be more than enough.
Rivals are few. The two <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-amg-c-class/">AMG C-Class</a> cars from Mercedes-Benz either come in below the M3 muscle-wise and price-wise (the C 43) or appreciably above (the C 63 S E Performance). The 472-hp <a href="https://www.kbb.com/cadillac/ct4-v/">Cadillac CT4-V</a> Blackwing comes in below the base M3. It’s good, but doesn’t have the prestige or the heritage of a BMW M3.

At its entry level, the M3 has a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine developing a gorgeous 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque going to the rear wheels. Or, in the case of the M3 Competition, 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Those 503 horses are boosted to 523 in the 2026 M3 Competition xDrive with all-wheel drive. The regular M3 has a 6-speed manual transmission. Competition variants come with an M-tuned 8-speed automatic.

<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical among European luxury car marques. Roadside assistance is included for that period, with unlimited mileage. Scheduled maintenance is free for three years or 36,000 miles, which is not so typical.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
The 3 Series (on which the M3 is based) hasn’t been tested fully by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) although it did take top scores in various impact scenarios. The car also earned a maximum of five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings">NHTSA</a>). Standard driver aids include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The high-performance 2026 BMW M2 coupe intrigues and excites in ways that only a BMW M car can.

<a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/driving-the-2025-bmw-m2/">We think the 2026 M2 is an awesome machine</a>, with a wonderful 473 hp erupting under that little hood to enable a standstill-to-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. To lose a couple more tenths, choose the automatic transmission. Even so, we reckon a lot of M2 buyers are willing to forgo that eye-blink duration in favor of the stick-shift’s greater involvement. We should also mention that BMW tends to be conservative with its official output and acceleration figures. However things might pan out in the real world, the M2 is indisputably quick and powerful.
The Audi RS 3 has 401 hp and hits 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, but we love the precision and balance of this rear-drive M2. These two cars are different enough to have their own appeal.
The thing about any 2 Series is that it’s poised and nimble, as if it was made especially for canyon roads, with quick steering and confidence-inspiring brakes. That’s especially true of the M2, made all the more capable by an adaptive M suspension as standard.
The car feels agile, grippy and incredibly capable. Putting the power down early at a corner’s exit is exhilarating, because of the responsive engine in tandem with the M Sport rear differential with continuously variable electronic locking. The front tires stick to the intended line and the tail follows them so sweetly.
This year marks the debut of the limited-edition 2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-bmw-m2-cs-lighter-more-powerful-pricey/">M2 CS</a>, developing 523 hp and lighter by 97 pounds. It comes solely with an automatic transmission — not that we consider this a bad thing, especially since the M2 CS is the most powerful rear-wheel-drive M car. Compared with the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/compare-cars/results?vehicleIds=477297|477364/">regular M2</a>, the CS also has its own suspension setup and various aerodynamic differences. BMW claims a rapid zero-to-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds.

<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The regular 2026 M2 manages 19 mpg in combined city/highway driving, regardless of transmission. For some vague context, the Audi RS 3 achieves 23 mpg.

Special Exterior

The M2 has its own special spin on the classic coupe look (of a relatively long nose and short tail), which we find captivating. That kind of squared-off treatment to the grille and front air intakes is like nothing else. The M2 is also eligible for a roof made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), shaving off weight and lowering the car’s center of gravity. We like the standard quad tailpipes finished in black, with the same treatment (plus a silver border) for the M2 badges on the grille and trunk lid. This year adds new wheel designs with staggered widths (wider rubber at the back).
The M2 CS adds a CFRP rear diffuser, as well as the CFRP roof as standard, plus a CFRP trunk lid with an integrated ducktail spoiler. No-cost metallic paint finishes for the M2 CS are Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, or Portimao Blue. Individual Velvet Blue Metallic is a $3,000 option.

Infotainment system 
We’ve found the infotainment system in the M2 easy to use, allowing voice control of several functions such as cabin temperature and ventilation, and even the heated steering wheel (when fitted). This has enabled BMW to reduce the number of physical controls. Augmented reality for the navigation system is optional.
BMW Curved Display 
This standard feature includes a 12.3-inch configurable driver information display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen — all in one curved unit. We think it brings a great high-tech feel to the cabin. A head-up display is on the options list.
Harman Kardon surround-sound system 
Although the M2’s engine and exhaust system make their own sweet music together, we like this standard audio setup a lot.
Engine 
We hold most BMW engines in high esteem, while keeping a special place in our collective heart for the company’s smooth 6-cylinder creations. It isn’t just the power they make or their relatively good fuel efficiency, it’s also how they respond to inputs from the accelerator pedal — lively and eager, exactly how we would describe the M2’s engine.
Manual transmission 
Yes, we know, only rabid enthusiasts go for manual transmissions. But the M2 is definitely an enthusiast’s car and a stick shift provides another level of engagement. Plus, it has a rev-matching feature on the downshifts, blipping the throttle automatically, which we think is cool.
M Driver’s package 
This is an option with the M2 and well worth considering, in our opinion. It’s a day’s tuition in high-performance driving on a track.

Upscale Interior

Like the rest of the 2 Series, the 2026 M2 has an upscale cabin with quality materials and what we think is a well-considered layout. Space up front is fine. The seats are comfortable, bringing plenty of support for the sides and under the thighs. The lightweight M Carbon front seats are available as an individual option as well as part of a Carbon Package. The steering wheel comes with a flat bottom (easier to slide the knees under), and offers the option of Alcantara (simulated suede) covering.
There are four seats in the M2. Unsurprisingly, rear legroom of 35 inches is tight for adults of average size and above, while the coupe roof line has an impact on rear headroom. Trunk space of 13.8 cubic feet is decent, a fraction larger than a Toyota Corolla compact sedan’s.

Based on the regular BMW 2 Series Coupe, the M2 comes with a set of talents designed to inspire and engage the enthusiast driver. It has a fantastic combination of power, agility, technology, and relative lightness. On top of that, it’s the most affordable BMW M car. Giving this luxury subcompact coupe the high-performance M treatment allows <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/">BMW</a> to indulge in the more purist traits such as rear-wheel drive and the availability of a manual transmission. Even though the idea of a small, nimble and powerful front-engined/rear-drive coupe sounds like a surefire recipe for driving thrills, there isn’t anything else that matches up to the M2 directly. The 401-hp <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/rs-3/">Audi RS 3</a> has four doors and all-wheel drive, and begins a little below the M2. AMG versions of the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA look like being hybrids. As a 2-seater/2-door coupe, the mid-engined <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/corvette/">Chevrolet Corvette</a> starts out a little higher than the M2. Or the bargain of this crowd could be the Austrian-made <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/gr-supra/">Toyota GR Supra</a>, starting below $60K. If an M2 is just too small, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/m4/">BMW M4</a> begins a smidge over $80K.

The engine in the regular 2026 M2 is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder unit developing 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, a glorious amount of power for such a small car. This energy goes solely to the rear wheels &#8212; there’s no option for all-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, while an 8-speed automatic transmission is offered as a no-cost option, bringing peak torque up to 443 lb-ft.
The 2026 M2 CS has essentially the same engine, automatic transmission and rear-drive configuration, with output boosted to an epic 523 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
BMW’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This is typical for European luxury car makers. Roadside assistance is included for that period, but with unlimited mileage. Scheduled maintenance is free for three years or 36,000 miles, which is less typical.

The M2 Coupe hasn’t been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States. This generation of 2 Series Coupe earned four stars out of a possible five from the Euro NCAP program. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

The big story this year is the 523-horsepower 2026 BMW M2 CS — the most powerful M car on the market with rear-wheel drive, and available in a limited run. The regular 2026 M2 gains new designs for its alloy wheels and a new digital key (using a phone app) as standard.

Beneath the 2025 Tesla Cybertruck’s distinctive sheet metal lies a capable electric pickup with excellent towing and payload capacity.

The Cybertruck is incredibly quick, with acceleration as good as zero-to-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. That’s something you would expect to hear about in a supercar, not a truck that can tow 11,000 pounds. Even if you don’t opt for the fastest triple-motor Cyberbeast, all <a href="https://www.kbb.com/compare-cars/results?vehicleIds=476834|475797|475862">Cybertruck trims</a> are highly responsive off the line.
There are some driving functions that are different from other trucks, but the learning curve isn’t too steep. Steering by wire allows you to turn corners without having to go “hand over hand” or take your hands off the wheel at all. The turn signals are buttons on the left side of the steering wheel instead of on a stalk. And there are no gauges in front of you; everything is within the large center screen and easy to see at a glance. Also, the truck’s unique exterior styling creates some blind spots when driving.
It has a decent ride, not cushy like the Ram 1500, but comfortable enough day to day. Its available adaptive air suspension provides a range of settings from sporty to soft. It also allows 12 inches of suspension travel and 16 inches of ground clearance, so it can definitely go off-road. For greater maneuverability, the Cybertruck also offers rear-wheel steering.

Tough Exterior

Tesla employs a unibody construction for the Cybertruck, as opposed to the traditional body-on-frame arrangement. It’s going to take a lot to dent a Cybertruck and the stainless steel is rust resistant. The glass is likewise ultra strong and armored with polymer-layered composite.
According to Tesla, the 6.5-foot composite bed supplies 100 cubic feet of lockable storage. It can also take 4×8 plywood sheets. The roller-shutter tonneau cover is strong enough for someone to stand on. You can even fit an ATV in the open bed, and Tesla offers an optional ramp. The bed houses 120-volt and 240-volt outlets, and an air compressor is available.
The Cybertruck looks bigger than it actually is. At 223.7 inches long, it’s 8 inches shorter than a typical Ford F-150.

The top-of-the-line Cyberbeast can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. That&#8217;s McLaren and Ferrari territory.
Excellent Range 
Getting up to 354 miles on a single charge makes it easier to get more work done during the day without range anxiety.
