In the triumvirate of small yet powerful luxury German cars, the 2025 RS 3 is the most affordable. Yet also the least muscular, with 394 horsepower. To compare, the BMW M2 packs 473 hp, and the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S develops 416 hp.
That said, 394 horses in a subcompact car remains a recipe for a thrilling drive capable of propelling the RS 3 from a standstill to 60 mph in a mere 3.6 seconds. That time is about half a second quicker than the competition, reminding us that there’s more to performance than plain engine output numbers.
That speed is contained and applied to the road by an adaptive suspension that can be firm enough for the track, yet sufficiently forgiving for the commute. This has been improved upon for 2025. Another asset for driving dynamics is the RS Torque Splitter, which makes the outside wheels go faster through a corner than their inside counterparts. It also allows the driver to get the tail out in drift mode, even though this car has all-wheel drive as standard.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The 2025 RS 3 achieves 23 mpg in combined city/highway driving. For reference, the BMW M2 returns 19 mpg combined, and the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 (also with standard all-wheel drive) matches the RS 3’s fuel economy.

For a subcompact sedan, the 2025 RS 3 has an undeniable presence, while still retaining that usual Audi gift for understatement. This year brings tweaks to the grille, along with larger air intakes. New colors for 2025 are Arkona White, Progressive Red Metallic, and Ascari Blue Metallic. The RS 3 offers new wheel designs as well.

10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen 
Granted, newer cars have bigger displays, but hear us out. Sometimes it’s good to have a less distracting system, especially when you’re busy driving with bit of gusto &#8212; which will be a common occurrence in an RS 3.
Sonos audio 
Not a widely known name in automotive entertainment, but the 15-speaker surround-sound system that comes standard in the RS 3 sounds pretty good to our ears.
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
Every new RS 3 comes standard with the ability to integrate smartphones without a cable. This is a great convenience and helps keep the cabin tidy.
Virtual Cockpit 
Audi blazed the trail for digital instrument clusters and we think this one is still great. It even has a special RS look.
Top-view camera 
Even though the RS 3 is a subcompact sedan with excellent outward vision, it’s still good to see all around the car when maneuvering.
Dynamic Plus package 
We would probably choose this option, mainly for the hard-wearing ceramic front brakes. Super-grippy ultra-high-performance summer tires are also included.

Enhanced Interior

Audi interiors are typically neat, elegant, high-quality and refined. Into this mix, add extra bolstering for the seats to hold their occupants snug through fast corners, and extended ambient LED lighting. This year, the RS 3 also gains a new flat-bottomed/flat-topped steering wheel wrapped in perforated leather, with the option of Alcantara (simulated suede) wrapping. The air vents and gear shifter have also been redesigned. And previous silver accents are replaced this year by dark grey metal.
On a more practical note, 35.2 inches of rear legroom is pretty good for a subcompact sedan and better than rival cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. However, the RS 3’s trunk space of 8.3 cubic feet loses out to the competition.

One of the 2025 Audi RS 3&#8217;s strengths is its modest size, which keeps weight in check and contributes to the car’s overall agility.
In ascending levels of sportiness, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/">Audi</a> has A cars (the RS 3 is based on the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/a3/">A3</a>), S cars (yes, there’s an <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/s3/">S3</a>, too), and then RS cars. This is the most affordable new Audi RS model, another perk of being a subcompact. It’s a niche product, but we’re glad Audi remains willing to provide for this corner of the automotive market, that the company&#8217;s enthusiast streak still runs deep.
To illustrate this, the latest RS 3 established a new lap record for its class on the famous and frankly scary North Loop of Germany’s Nürburgring, stopping the clock at  7.33.123. Anything under eight minutes is awesomely quick. Yet the RS 3 can also be perfectly tolerable on public roads.

The RS 3 enjoys a meaty 394 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque generated by a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with five cylinders in a line. It’s an unusual configuration, but has its charms and distinctive sound. This connects to a 7-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard.

Audi’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This coverage is typical among European luxury car manufacturers. Roadside assistance is also included.

The thrifty and practical Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is a more efficient and more powerful version of the famed hybrid hatchback.

The 2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 220-horsepower hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive (FWD). This makes the Prius PHEV more fun to drive than you might imagine, with a quick 0-60 mph time of six seconds. It’s responsive in city driving between traffic lights and even has decent highway passing muscle.
We’ve found that it’s similarly lively using just the electric motor. So if drivers want to stay in EV mode as much as possible, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid can still deliver an enjoyable experience. A button on the center console enables EV mode or an automatic mode that brings the combustion engine in or out as needed. It’s simple to use.
There’s comfort and composure in equal measure, and we like how the car feels nicely poised. We’d be happy to run commutes and longer trips alike in the Prius Plug-in Hybrid. A more confident initial bite on the brake pedal would be welcome, though.
The cabin is mostly quiet, with just some tire noise coming up while driving over rough surfaces. That’s to be expected since these are special tires with low rolling resistance that contribute to overall fuel economy.
When checking the rearview mirror, the slope of the back window creates a small aperture, so outward vision isn’t great. The top XSE Premium trim offers the option of a digital rearview mirror for a much clearer and wider view behind. It’s a shame it’s not available with lower trims, but at least blind-spot monitoring is standard.
<h3>Fuel Economy and Range</h3>
In the base SE trim, the amazingly efficient Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid goes up to 45 miles on a full charge. With a depleted battery, it returns 52 combined mpg. In the XSE and XSE Premium trims, those numbers drop to 40 miles of all-electric range and 48 combined mpg with an empty battery. The EPA estimates that the difference in monthly fuel costs is only about $4, so don’t feel bad about springing for one of the upper trims.
The electric range, efficiency ratings, and fuel costs of the Toyota Prius PHEV are all better than the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid. The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is simply one of the most efficient vehicles with a gas engine that money can buy.

Sleek Exterior

With this latest generation, the Prius makes an entirely different statement than earlier models. It’s really sleek and seems as if it should hover just above the ground and hum quietly — as opposed to making any kind of typical engine noise. We think the Prius is cool now.
Visual differences between the PHEV and the regular Prius are much subtler this time around. That’s fine by us. Compared with the previous generation, the body is lower by a couple of inches, an inch wider, and an inch longer.

45-mile electric range 
The ability to travel up to 45 miles on electricity alone means the average American can potentially go weeks without burning any gas. Just plug in overnight, and you’ll have enough juice for daily driving duties, but the gas engine is there for when you need to go farther.
Infotainment systems 
Excellent tech throughout the Prius Plug-in Hybrid lineup includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard, six USB-C ports, and decent-sized touchscreens. Voice control, wireless charging, and over-the-air updates are also available.
Proactive Driving Assist 
A standard feature. When cornering, it detects any vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians that might be up ahead, then activates minor steering and throttle adjustments to optimize safety.
Traffic Jam Assist 
This is available with a Drive Connect trial or subscription. At speeds up to 25 mph, the system can operate the throttle, brakes, and steering — as long as the driver is still concentrating on the road ahead.
Digital Key 
By recognizing an authorized phone, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid allows access as well as functions like remote locking/unlocking. This is optional in the XSE, standard in the XSE Premium.
Solar glass roof 
Solar panels in the roof help charge the battery when the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is parked, or add extra power to run things like climate control while on the move. This is another option for the XSE Premium model.

High-Tech Interior

Toyota used to lean into the weirdness of the Prius by putting all of the gauges in the middle of the dashboard. With the most recent generation, we’re grateful that the driver information display is now in front of the driver. It’s a little thing, but existing Prius owners upgrading to the newest generation will appreciate it.
Elsewhere, there are clean lines and pleasing shapes. The whole thing looks and feels a cut above typical Toyotas. The infotainment touchscreen is a generous size, while the aerodynamic exterior results in low levels of wind noise in the cabin. The only real downside is an under-padded center armrest. Since this is pricier than the average compact hybrid, we expect a little more from the interior quality.
Rear passenger space in the 2025 Prius PHEV remains the same as the regular Prius — a bit tight for average-sized adults, but not unbearable. The hatchback style is useful for carrying larger items, and there’s 20.3 cubic feet of luggage space behind the rear seats —  easily enough for three sets of golf clubs.
If cargo-carrying is a serious consideration, check out the more SUV-like Kia Niro PHEV with 54.6 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid only has 26.7 cubic feet.

The Toyota Prius has historically been something of a compromise. If you wanted the best fuel economy, you paid the price of pokey performance and, shall we say, unconventional styling. The 2025 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) removes the compromises from the Prius formula and delivers incredible efficiency, sleek styling, and even a fun driving experience. This PHEV is both more efficient and more powerful than the Prius powered by a conventional hybrid powertrain (<a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/prius/">reviewed separately</a>); this one can travel up to 45 miles on electricity alone. Meanwhile, it carries the Prius’ other virtues of excellent safety ratings, outstanding resale value, and the reliability you expect from a Toyota.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid is pricier than rivals that use a conventional hybrid powertrain, like the hybrid versions of the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic-hybrid/">Honda Civic</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/elantra-hybrid/">Hyundai Elantra</a>.

Range and Charging

A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine is augmented by an electric motor to send a total of 220 horsepower to the front wheels. It travels up to 45 miles on electricity alone and a whopping 600 miles when the battery and gas tank are both full. These range ratings decrease a bit in the XSE and XSE Premium trims: 40-mile all-electric range, 550-mile total range.
Charging the battery takes about four hours using a 240-volt supply or 11 hours on a diet of 120 volts from a typical household outlet. That means you can get by without having an expensive Level 2 charging unit installed in your garage; just use the regular outlet and you’ll usually have enough electric power for gas-free daily driving duties.

<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Toyota has a new-car warranty of three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. This is all typical for the mainstream category. The warranty for hybrid-related components is eight years or 100,000 miles. And the hybrid battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Two years or 25,000 miles of free routine maintenance is also included.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
This generation of Prius has received the accolade of Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and the top 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, plus front cross-traffic alert and intersection assistance.

The full-size, 3-row Ford Expedition MAX is the blue oval’s biggest, most family-friendly SUV, and it’s all-new for 2025.

Although the Ford Expedition MAX has entered a new generation, it carried over the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that powered the previous generation. However, the new standard tuning makes 400 horsepower, and it’s upgradeable to 440 horsepower. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends output to the rear or all four wheels.
The 2025 Ford Expedition MAX provides plentiful power, even with a full load of passengers and a boat in tow. The base 400-horsepower engine is more than adequate for daily driving duties, but the enthusiast in us loves the extra 40 horsepower in the high-output tuning that&#8217;s optional in the Platinum trim. That extra boost in power makes a big difference when sprinting on an on-ramp or passing on the highway.
The Expedition&#8217;s handling is a little sharper than we expect for such a big SUV, especially with the optional sport suspension system that comes with the Stealth Performance package. With the standard suspension, this drives like the big truck that it is, which is typical for this class. Taking a sharp turn too fast can result in some predictable body roll. However, this is a truck made for devouring miles on the highway, and it&#8217;s perfectly engineered for that task, especially when equipped with the BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system. Smooth, comfortable, and powerful, the Expedition drives exactly like a full-size SUV should.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
There&#8217;s no EPA rating specifically for the Expedition MAX, but the regular Expedition gets 16 city/24 highway/19 combined mpg with rear-wheel drive. Subtract one from each of those numbers for the 4-wheel drive models.
These fuel economy ratings are about average for this class, but the diesel versions of the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL are more efficient. The Jeep Wagoneer L, also powered by a turbo 6-cylinder, is about as efficient as the Expedition MAX. The fact that this Ford runs on regular-grade gas helps keep the fuel costs manageable, the optional 6.2-liter V8 in its GM rivals requires premium.

Imposing Exterior

The exterior design of the Ford Expedition MAX strikes a nice balance of modern and traditional. It’s satisfyingly boxy, but a handsome light signature and stylish wheels make it look modern. The look changes quite a bit throughout the lineup; the Active is humble yet stylish, the Platinum looks fancy, and the King Ranch is like a cowboy wearing his Sunday best.
The Ford Split Gate is a new, unique exterior feature of the Ford Expedition MAX. This class-exclusive split liftgate has a clamshell design, with the bottom part folding down like a truck’s tailgate. That means you can open the hatch from the driver’s seat and not worry about a bottle of wine rolling out and smashing on the garage floor. A Cargo Tailgate Manager option integrates a serving table and a backrest for the split gate, making the Expedition MAX the ultimate tailgating SUV.

Towing muscle 
The Ford Expedition MAX is among the best in its class when it comes to towing. With a max tow rating of up to 9,600 pounds, it’s ready and willing to pull boats, campers, and a wide range of other toys.
BlueCruise

The Ford Digital Experience consists of a 24-inch panoramic display working in concert with a 13.2-inch central infotainment display. Wireless smartphone connectivity, crisp graphics, and a user-friendly interface make for a pleasant experience.
360-degree zone lighting 
A nice touch of the Ford Expedition MAX is optional zone lighting all around the exterior of the SUV. It can project light in any direction, which is helpful for setting up a campsite or just lighting the way in a dark parking lot.
Luxury trims 
The Western-inspired King Ranch trim and the fancy Platinum Ultimate package turn the Expedition MAX into a luxury SUV with features like BlueCruise, massaging leather seats, a High-Output engine, and a B&amp;O premium audio system with up to 22 speakers.

Vast Interior

Historically, some full-size SUVs have had interior dimensions that don’t feel so full-size, especially in the third row. However, clever packaging in the Ford Expedition MAX yields a truly massive interior. There’s also plenty of cargo space to boot, and the second- and third-row seats all fold flat, creating an enormous cargo hold with a flat floor. Notably, the legroom in the second or third row doesn&#8217;t change when you spring for the Expedition MAX. However, the longer Expedition serves up 36.1 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row. That&#8217;s a 67 percent increase over the standard wheelbase but less cargo space than the Suburban and Wagoneer L.
We can confirm that each of the many seats in the Ford Expedition MAX is adult-friendly. Tilt-and-slide second-row seats make the third row easy to access, and there&#8217;s plenty of room back there with amenities like cupholders and USB-C ports. Even the middle third-row seat has decent width for when you need to use every seat. With a generous 36.5 inches of third-row legroom, the Expedition MAX&#8217;s third-row space is almost identical to the Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, and Jeep Wagoneer L.
Interior materials get nicer as you work your way into pricier trims. All but the base Active trim have leather seats, and the King Ranch model boasts what Ford calls Mesa Del Rio leather with Kingsville stitching. A fully loaded Expedition MAX feels like a luxury SUV inside, but it’s also priced like one.
The new Expedition MAX has a unique screen arrangement. A large 24-inch display is perched on the dash in front of the driver, serving as a digital gauge cluster and a nav screen with a small section that&#8217;s customizable. But that’s not meant to be tapped with your fingers; a more traditional 13.2-inch infotainment display is on the center stack for controlling your maps, music, and other functions. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. We love what Ford calls the Ford Digital Experience, it&#8217;s an excellent execution of multiple big screens that are clear and easy to use. The oval-shaped steering wheel helps to keep it all easy to read.
Speaking of the steering wheel, it comes with a bit of a learning curve. It has two square pads where your thumbs go with haptic controls that can change based on what you&#8217;re trying to do. As you swipe your thumbs on these pads, their functions show up on the screen in front of you so you can manipulate your cruise control and audio. We found this system pretty intuitive, and we like the uncluttered look of the steering wheel, but we know some drivers might prefer a more traditional steering wheel button layout. Also of note, the HVAC and seat climate controls are all on the screen, forgoing physical knobs and switches.

Engine and Transmission

Every 2025 Ford Expedition MAX is powered by a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The standard tuning produces 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, but a High-Output version is available, making 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Like all of its rivals, rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4-wheel drive is optional.

Ford’s new vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These are typical terms among mainstream manufacturers.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The new generation of the Ford Expedition got mixed ratings in its crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>). It earned the top &#8220;Good&#8221; score in the side test, but &#8220;Marginal&#8221; ratings in the small overlap front and moderate overlap front tests. It has not yet been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Its standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors.

Power, Ride, And Handling

Although the Ford Expedition has entered a new generation, it carried over the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that powered the previous generation. However, the new standard tuning makes 400 horsepower, and it’s upgradeable to 440 horsepower. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends output to the rear or all four wheels.
The 2025 Ford Expedition provides plentiful power, even with a full load of passengers and a boat in tow. The base 400-horsepower engine is more than adequate for daily driving duties, but the enthusiast in us loves the extra 40 horsepower in the high-output tuning that&#8217;s standard in the Tremor model and optional in the Platinum trim. That extra boost in power makes a big difference when sprinting on an on-ramp or passing on the highway.
The Expedition&#8217;s handling is a little sharper than we expect for such a big SUV when equipped with the optional sport suspension system that comes with the Stealth Performance package. With the standard suspension, this drives like the big truck that it is, which is typical for this class. Taking a sharp turn too fast can result in some predictable body roll. However, this is a truck made for devouring miles on the highway, and it&#8217;s perfectly engineered for that task, especially when equipped with the BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system. Smooth, comfortable, and powerful, the Expedition drives exactly like a full-size SUV should.
We got to test out the Expedition Tremor off-road and came away impressed. Its beefier tires, extra ground clearance, and electronic locking rear differential made traversing muddy trails in its off-road drive mode effortless. It&#8217;s safe to say the Expedition Tremor can handle just about any terrain that the average Ford Expedition owner will encounter, and it will look great doing it.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The 2025 Ford Expedition is rated at 16 city/24 highway/19 combined mpg with rear-wheel drive. Subtract one from each of those numbers for the 4-wheel drive models.
These fuel economy ratings are about average for this class, but the hybrid Toyota Sequoia and the diesel versions of the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon are more efficient. The Jeep Wagoneer, also powered by a turbo 6-cylinder, is about as efficient as the Expedition. The fact that the Expedition runs on regular-grade gas helps keep the fuel costs manageable, the optional 6.2-liter V8 in its GM rivals requires premium.

Looking the Part

The exterior design of the Ford Expedition strikes a nice balance of modern and traditional. It’s satisfyingly boxy, but a handsome light signature and stylish wheels make it look modern. The look changes quite a bit throughout the lineup; the Tremor looks rugged, the Platinum looks fancy, and the King Ranch is like a cowboy wearing his Sunday best.
The Ford Split Gate is a new unique exterior feature of the Ford Expedition. This class-exclusive split liftgate has a clamshell design, with the bottom part folding down like a truck’s tailgate. That means you can open the hatch from the driver’s seat and not worry about a bottle of wine rolling out and smashing on the garage floor. A Cargo Tailgate Manager option integrates a serving table and a backrest for the split gate, making the Expedition the ultimate tailgating SUV.

The Ford Expedition finally gets the Tremor treatment. Following the lead of the Tremor versions of Ford pickup trucks, the Expedition Tremor has a rugged appearance package, standard 4WD, skid plates, an electronic locking rear differential, and meaty 33-inch all-terrain tires.

Pricing Notes

Expect the 2025 Ford Expedition to start at around $60,000. We have no reason to think Ford will tinker with the outgoing Expedition’s trim-level lineup. Consequently, our estimated starting price is for the entry-level XL STX and includes the factory-to-dealer delivery fee. Perched atop the trim hierarchy is the Platinum grade with an estimated beginning price of about $86,000. If your tastes run to smaller, we point you to the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ford/explorer/">Ford Explorer</a> for about $18,000 less. If you want bigger, well, reach for the Expedition Max. It adds overall length to the body and $3,000 to the bottom line.

With incredible fuel economy, excellent safety ratings, and great resale value, the Toyota Prius is one of the most practical cars money can buy.

The 2025 Toyota Prius is powered by a 194-horsepower hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. There were about 20 years when nobody associated the Prius with a fun driving experience, but that changed when the newest generation came out in 2023. Once notoriously lackadaisical, the Prius can now get a hustle on. It used to take 9.8 seconds to saunter from a standstill to 60 mph — this generation of Prius can manage the dash in a downright lively 7.2 seconds.
Coming back to a halt is similarly impressive. In the early days of hybrids, their regenerative braking systems felt odd compared with conventional cars and took some getting used to. But no one does this better than Toyota. We’ve found the brakes in the Prius to feel natural, smooth, and confident.
The ride is smooth, as is typical for a hybrid. However, also typical for a hybrid, we noticed some droning sounds in our testing. Occasional noisiness is still a necessary tradeoff in a hybrid with a CVT, maximizing fuel economy. The steering requires virtually no effort, which is an asset when maneuvering. The car also feels quite nimble and composed through the corners, yet the ride quality is completely comfortable.
A small rear window hampers outward vision. There is a remedy for this, though. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, and a digital rearview mirror comes with all but the base trim. It shows a clear image of what’s behind the car, courtesy of a rear-facing camera. Technology like this has enabled <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/">Toyota</a> to push the design envelope unrestricted by small compromises.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2025 Toyota Prius achieves a remarkable 57 combined mpg (57 city, 56 highway). That’s for the base LE trim with front-wheel drive. For reference, in their most efficient variants, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid gets 54 mpg and the Honda Civic Hybrid gets 49 mpg.
The higher XLE and Limited versions return 52 combined mpg. If all-wheel drive is equipped, the LE is rated at 54 combined mpg, while the XLE and Limited equivalents run to 49 combined mpg.
It’s tempting to go with the base trim since it’s the most efficient, but according to EPA estimates, the difference in monthly fuel costs for the most efficient Prius versus its least efficient variant is only about $12.

It’s always been noticeable to the average bystander that Toyota prioritized efficient aerodynamics over attractive styling with the Prius. However, this newest generation actually looks good without compromising on its slippery aero. The driving character has finally found a favorable balance of verve and efficiency, and the handsome exterior follows suit. It’s a Prius you won’t be embarrassed to drive.

Phone integration in a convenient cable-free format comes as standard with every new Prius hybrid.
Infotainment systems 
The base LE has an 8-inch touchscreen. An optional 12.3-inch display is available in the XLE and Nightshade and is standard in the Limited. Six USB-C ports are standard, and the Prius can receive over-the-air upgrades.
All-wheel drive 
For people who live in areas where winter tires are probably a good idea, adding this option brings extra reassurance. Yet fuel economy remains thrifty.
Digital key 
Accessing the Prius can be done by phone. This is optional in the XLE and Nightshade and standard in the Limited, and it enables functions like remote locking/unlocking.
Powered tailgate 
Exclusive to the top Limited trim, a powered rear hatch/tailgate/liftback/whatever-you-want-to-call-it adds a touch of luxury.
Advanced Park 
This is a hands-free parking system for parallel and perpendicular spaces, available as an option in the Limited model.

Practical Interior

Toyota used to lean into the weirdness of the Prius by putting all of the gauges in the middle of the dashboard. With the most recent generation, we’re grateful that the driver information display is now in front of the driver. It’s a little thing, but existing Prius owners upgrading to the newest generation will appreciate it.
The dashboard echoes the car’s front end—clean and modern. We also like the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen available in the higher trims and the wireless charging location. This spot just ahead of the center armrest is secure and big enough to take the latest crop of giant smartphones with a case.
The low roof means tall adults will argue about who gets to sit up front. The Prius has 36.4 inches of rear headroom and 34.8 inches of rear legroom. If this is a concern, look instead at the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/corolla-hybrid/">Corolla Hybrid</a> sedan or the even more spacious SUV-like <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/niro/">Kia Niro</a> (hybrid).
It’s a shame that those places where elbows usually come to rest are woefully under-padded. The usual Toyota aversion to using adequate sound deadening is also evident. Road noise blends with the noticeable thrum of the hybrid system.
The cargo space behind the rear seats is decent: 23.8 cubic feet with LE trim and 20.3 cubic feet with XLE and Limited trims. A couple of golf bags will fit with room to spare.

The Toyota Prius name is synonymous with efficiency that’s easy on the environment and the gas budget, but there’s more to the Prius than just excellent fuel economy. When its most recent generation kicked off in 2023, the Toyota Prius retained its virtues as a frugal hybrid hatchback while evolving into a car with peppy acceleration and dashing good looks, two qualities that weren’t exactly strengths of previous Prius generations. It’s even available with all-wheel drive. If shoppers are looking for practical and efficient daily transportation, there’s almost no excuse now to ignore the Toyota Prius.

Every 2025 Toyota Prius is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine and a CVT with a pair of electric motors. Front-wheel drive is standard, and an optional all-wheel-drive system adds another motor to the rear axle. Output is rated at 194 horsepower for FWD models and 196 hp for AWD variants.

Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of free maintenance.

The latest Toyota Prius hybrid has stellar safety ratings. It has earned the lauded Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and the top 5-Star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). All Prius models come standard with safety features including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Lane Tracing Assist.

The Nightshade Edition joins the Prius trim lineup this year. It mostly features black accents, such as exterior badging, 19-inch wheels, door handles, and interior upholstery with gray stitching. The exterior colors are either Midnight Black Metallic or white — Wind Chill Pearl in Toyota-speak.

The segment’s tidiest turning circle helps make tight parking lots more easily navigable.
The Forester Hybrid also maintains the same exceptional ground clearance and robust all-wheel-drive system that have long distinguished the Forester as one of the most capable and adventurous compact SUVs. We climbed a steep and rutted dirt hill that left some other compact SUVs fruitlessly spinning their wheels, the latest demonstration that those Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive badges mean something.
<h3>2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid MPG</h3>
The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is rated to return fuel economy of 35 mpg in combined city and highway driving. That’s better than the gas-only Forester’s 29 mpg, for an EPA-estimated average savings of about $25 per month at the pump. The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD is a standout at 39 mpg, which works out to a difference of about $12 per month compared to the Forester Hybrid.

Rugged Exterior

We like the Forester’s signature upright, boxy design. A handful of unique traits make it interesting, including the horizontal line connecting the rear windows to the liftgate window, with “Symmetrical AWD” spelled across. Many Kelley Blue Book editors are also partial to the available bronze-finish wheels. The only things that give it away as a hybrid are small badges on the front doors and liftgate.
