The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is a 3-row crossover that is really in a class all its own. Good-looking and modern, it offers seating for six or seven passengers, though the third row is better for little ones. The CX-9 is also fun to drive. It offers plenty of power from a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes it feels like there’s a V6 under the hood.
For 2021, the Mazda CX-9 gets a new trim level called the Carbon Edition, and an upgraded infotainment system with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard throughout the lineup.
Fully Loaded
At the top of the range, a fully loaded Mazda CX-9 will just get to the $50,000 price point. A destination charge of $1,100 is extra. Here’s an overview of what you get:
- Signature Edition: $48,475 at the base. This is the top-of-the-line CX-9, and it comes with all-wheel drive as standard. If you want the special Soul Red crystal metallic color, it will cost you an additional $595.
- More tech features (that are usually ala carte).
- A variety of accessories including floormats, lighted door sills, tow hitch, and cargo nets.
Here are the highlights of a fully loaded 2021 Mazda CX-9:
Turbocharged 2.5-Liter 4-Cylinder Engine
The 2021 Mazda CX-9 delivers power through a 6-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels from a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel. Fill up with regular 87 octane, and that output dips to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
Luxury Interior
At the Signature level, you get all-wheel drive as standard on the CX-9. You also get Nappa leather upholstery and a Santos Rosewood interior trim, as well as a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink—items that you have to add individually on other trims.
Bose Premium Audio
Standard on the Signature level is a 12-speaker Bose premium audio. Integrated into the 10.25-inch touchscreen, the high-end sound system is also complemented by a 3-month free subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.
Exterior Bells and Whistles
On the outside, you get things like LED foglights, rear parking sensors, and roof rails on the top-of-the-line CX-9. You can also opt for a tow hitch ($450) with a wiring harness as a part of the accessories.
Power Liftgate
Adding to the convenience factor on the CX-9 is the power liftgate. It has a hands-free capability that allows you to raise or lower it by swiping your foot beneath the rear of the vehicle.
