VW Issues Do Not Drive Warning Over Loose Wheels

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas seen from a front quarter angle

Volkswagen has recalled 27 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4 SUVs from model year 2026 because their wheels could fall off. The company has asked owners to stop driving the vehicles until dealers have a chance to complete repairs.

The company tells federal safety officials that factory workers may have installed the wheels with the wrong bolts. The bolts can work themselves loose over time, which risks wheel loss.

Owners might notice a rattling sound as the problem develops. Dealers will inspect the wheels and replace the bolts as necessary to fix the problem.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
