Volvo Recalls Wagons, SUVs Over Seat Belt Retractors

Volvo recalled 1,355 SUVs and wagons because their seat belts might not function as intended in a crash.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

The company tells federal safety regulators that a supplier may have used damaged torsion bars within some seat belt retractors. As a result, the shoulder belt could spool out instead of retracting to restrain the occupant in an accident.

Volvo believes few of the cars actually have damaged parts. But to ensure the company finds all of them, it will replace all potentially flawed belts.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
