Volvo is recalling 9,930 EX30 electric vehicles (EVs) from model years 2025 and 2026 due to potentially faulty head restraint cushions. Certain 2026 EX30 Cross Country models are also included in this recall.
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report notes that the headrest cushion in the front seats of these vehicles may not be securely fastened.
In the case of a severe crash involving high speeds and impacts from multiple directions, the cushion may detach from the head restraint. With less head and neck support, the risk of personal injury increases.
Volvo is not aware of any reports of injuries or fatalities related to this recall.
Dealerships will fix this issue by ensuring the head restraint cushion is securely attached. To do so, they will use a two-component epoxy adhesive at three separate attachment points to fasten the cushion.
Volvo says testing of this new repair significantly improves the cushion’s attachment strength. Owners with affected vehicles are expected to be notified beginning in late November.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone.
