The Volvo EX30 will not be the 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
Nothing has changed about the car itself. Volvo’s little electric SUV is still surprisingly affordable, good for up to 275 miles between charges in even its least-expensive form, and available in a dual-motor version with a shockingly fast 3.4-second 0-60 mph time.
But it’s late. The jury that gives the award announced today that “Because the Volvo EX30 will not reach customers until 2024, it is ineligible for this year’s award. The NACTOY board has voted to replace it with the Hyundai Kona/Kona EV.”
The Kona should be a strong contender – it just won our own Best Buy Award in the subcompact SUV class.
A jury of 50 automotive journalists votes on the awards, including our own Allyson Harwood.
