Volkswagen Recalls SUVs Over Loose Frame Bolts

Volkswagen recalled 546 midsize SUVs because factory workers may not have tightened some critical bolts to the proper torque during assembly.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

The company tells federal safety officials, “Certain bolts on the chassis, brake system, and/or suspension of affected vehicles may not have been correctly tightened” during manufacturing. Failure of any of those bolts could make the cars harder to control.

The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries, but at least five warranty claims, related to the problem.

Dealers will replace all of the suspect bolts to fix the issue.
