Toyota Hybrid-R Concept coming to Frankfurt Auto Show

While the only visual clue offered regarding the new Toyota Hybrid-R Concept is this still-in-process logo, the automaker has confirmed that it will debut in Frankfurt a performance-oriented street-legal vehicle that uses the same type of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) setup pioneered in the firm’s TS030 Hybrid prototype racer that finished second overall at Le Mans this year. Whether the show car will be a variation on one of Toyota’s existing Hybrid Synergy Drive vehicles or an all-new offering remains to be seen, as does its potential to actually reach the showroom. For now, the sole additional fact presented in an extremely brief release issued by Toyota Motorsports Europe is that this intriguing one-off will feature "Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology." With luck, we’ll see this enthusiast-grade take on the gas-electric theme find its way into Toyota models here in America, as well.
