UPDATE: Check out our full review of the new Supra
Coming full circle when Toyota teased the production version of the 2020 Toyota Supra by showing a Gazoo Racing prototype at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Japanese automaker returns with a GT4 racing version of the now unveiled sport coupe.
The Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept is a prelude to the company offering the car for sale to customers for competition purposes. Toyota decided to develop its privateer program in response to the explosive growth of the GT4 category, which has national and regional series in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania.
The lightweight racer was initially developed by Toyota Motorsports GmbH in Germany, but now Toyota is taking the vehicle global with Supra models slated for competition in NASCAR’s Xfinity series, the Nürburgring 24 Endurance Race, Super GT and GT 500 class as well as being eligible for the GT4 category including the Pirelli World Challenge in America.
