Tesla Slashes Prices of Base Model 3, Y; Raises Prices of Performance Models

Tesla has cut the prices of some base models, and raised the prices of their performance variants.

In typical fashion, the automaker made no announcement of the changes. The price changes appeared on its website without explanation.

The Model 3 is America’s best-selling electric car. The Model 3 Standard Range Plus has seen a $1,000 discount, now starting at $35,990. However, the Performance variant of the Model 3 has seen an increase, also a $1,000 change. Tesla now asks $55,990 for the Model 3 Performance.

The Model Y Standard Range has been given a larger discount — $2,000. Tesla now asks $41,990 for the base model of its least expensive SUV. The Model Y Performance, however, now goes for $60,990 – a $1,000 increase.

The adjustments come as a study reveals that four of the five best-selling electric cars in America are Teslas.
