Subaru Teases Off-Road Outback Wilderness Model

Rumors are swirling that Subaru plans a more off-road sub-brand under the Wilderness moniker. We don’t have confirmation that a full lineup of Subaru Wilderness products is headed to showrooms, but today we did get proof of at least one. It’s a more rugged 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness.

Subaru is showing off a teaser image of the Outback Wilderness, and it’s, well, it’s not much to go on. The picture shows a bit of a beefy Yokohama tire and the driver’s side door sill wears black body cladding with orange accents on the badges.

Test cars in camouflage suggest the Outback Wilderness sports a larger grille and slightly higher ground clearance. It also employs skid plates to protect the undercarriage, shorter bumpers to improve approach and departure angles, and wider fender flares. Black body cladding protects areas likely to suffer scratches in off-road driving.

Subaru plans to release more details on March 30. We also expect to hear about a Forester Wilderness model as well.
