The 2024 Subaru Impreza will make its first public appearance this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Subaru has released a second teaser shot to get the public ready.
The first photo, released last week, showed the outline of a hatchback in a very dim light. This second shot is better lit but zoomed in so close as to reveal little. What we can see is a grille made of serrated edges beneath a thick crossbar crowned with the Subaru badge.
Jewel headlights stick out far from the side of the hood. Together, the details suggest an angular design theme that could do a lot to inject personality into Subaru’s least-distinctive car.
The current Impreza has much to recommend, from standard all-wheel drive to strong resale values. But it’s lost in a crowd of look-alike, drive-alike compact cars. More recent redesigns from competitors like the 2022 Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra have given them a more pronounced character. They also make the Impreza’s 152-horsepower engine look mundane.
A redesign could fix that, putting it back into competition in our list of the Best Compact Cars. We hope to have more than a teaser image to report later this week.
