Previewing of what lies ahead for Toyota‘s youth-oriented sub-brand, the Scion iM Concept will make its world debut in Los Angeles. Save for things like a bold fascia treatment, LED running lamps, an aggressive wheel/tire/brake package confirms this one-off will have a distinctly sporty character. Beyond that, these initial images don’t reveal a much about the vehicle’s overall configuration or size. However, Scion says the iM Concept reflects the evolutionary path it will take travel to better meet the needs of young and young-thinking customers who remain a prime target.

Scion VP Doug Murtha recently told Automotive News that three of the five vehicles in its U.S. lineup will be replaced over the course of the next two years. Although the aging subcompact xD and compact xB are due for a full makeovers, Murtha noted the first of Scion’s next-gen offerings is not necessarily a direct replacement for either one.

There’s been a good deal of talk lately about Scion swapping out the iconic and boxy xB for a version of the Japan/European-market Toyota Auris, a sophisticated 5-door compact hatch that incorporates elements of the Toyota New Global Architecture in its chassis design. We’ve also heard rumors of a possible 4-door sedan that could be spun from the current FR-S platform or one based on underpinnings shared with the new Mazda Demio/Mazda2. Check back on November 19th for full coverage of the Scion iM Concept along with all of the other new vehicles that’ll be unveiled at the LA Auto Show
