Reports Put Future of Audi A8 in Doubt

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Audi is no longer taking orders for the A8 in Germany. While the fourth generation of the flagship luxury sedan is currently for sale in the United States, there is no word on a replacement.

An Audi representative confirmed to The Drive that the automaker stopped taking orders for the full-size sedan in its home market of Germany in mid February. At the moment, the model is still listed on Audi’s U.S. site. But if you’re shopping for a new A8, you might want to act sooner vs. later. The 2026 Audi A8 begins at just over $96,000, while the high-performance Audi S8 is over $131,000.

The A8 has a three decade history as a flagship sedan. It’s Audi’s answer to the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class, and Lexus LSwhich itself is marking its final year.

The current generation A8 launched in 2019, and at one point, the next-gen model was expected to be a large electric sedan with a new design language. Plans were scrapped after Porsche delayed the launch of an EV that could have shared the same platform.

As with sedans overall, the appetite for full-size luxury models has waned as buyers opt for SUVs.
