Honda may be adding another car to the chopping block. After last week’s announcement that the 0 Series will not be moving forward, multiple outlets are speculating that the Prologue may also be canceled.
How it Started
The Prologue launched in 2024 as a fully electric midsize SUV and sold well at first. It is currently built by General Motors in Mexico.
How it’s Going
According to Automotive News, “Honda already has slashed Prologue production in half and now anticipates selling 17,900 this year.” Prologue sales dropped dramatically after the $7,500 federal tax credit was eliminated last year. The end of that tax credit led to a downturn of EV sales in the U.S. Production of this generation of the Prologue is slated to end in December, and there are no plans yet for a second generation. Honda has yet to comment on the Prologue’s fate.
Epilogue
Honda will be refocusing on hybrid vehicles. The company said in a March 12 statement that it will “accelerate hybrid deployment while maintaining long-term EV goals on its proprietary architecture.” Honda forecasts sales of 1.5 million vehicles, including Acura. That’s up 4% from last year. A shift to hybrid vehicle deployment could mean even more growth for Honda’s future.
