Volkswagen and its Audi luxury brand have issued a recall alert for almost 225,000 vehicles that may have faulty tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). Because that’s a common part used in many cars, the list of recalled vehicles is long. It includes:
- 2019-2020 Audi A3
- 2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet
- 2019 Audi Q3
- 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan LWB
- 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
- 2019 Volkswagen Golf R
- 2019 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen
- 2019-2021 Volkswagen Atlas
- 2019-2020 Volkswagen Golf
- 2019-2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI
- 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta
- 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
- 2020-2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
The vehicles’ TPMS functions work fine in most circumstances but may not notify the owner in time if all four tires lose pressure at the same rate simultaneously. In documents filed with federal safety regulators, Volkswagen says the system would warn owners before the pressure got dangerously low. However, it wouldn’t do so in time to pass federal safety tests.
Dealers will fix the problem with a software update.
