Tesla has issued a recall order for about 3,000 2019-2021 Model 3 sedans and 2020-2021 Model Y SUVs because of concerns that a suspension part could fail. The vehicles may have front suspension parts that can grow loose over time. That could cause the driver to lose control.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla explains that the front suspension lateral link is attached to the sub-frame with two fasteners. Some cars may have improperly attached fasteners. Over time, with the natural vibrations and stresses of driving, they may come loose. If one grows too loose, “wheel alignment could shift and cause instability.”
Drivers might notice unusual noise or vibration from one or both front wheels as the problem develops. But it could also occur without warning.
Tesla will inspect the recalled cars to ensure their fasteners are attached properly. If damage is found during the inspection, Tesla may replace damaged components. Recall repairs are always free.
It’s not unusual for a car to be recalled several times during its useful life. Automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the car in. But they don’t always reach everyone. Check whether your car needs any free repairs with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
