Tesla is recalling 27,185 Cybertrucks because their backup camera image may be delayed after shifting into reverse. The defect creates a risk of unintentionally backing over people or objects behind the vehicle.
The rule requires the image from a backup camera to appear on the car’s display within two seconds of shifting into reverse. In the affected Cybertrucks, the delay is six to eight seconds before the image appears.
Tesla says it confirmed the fault on Sept. 19 after an internal investigation. The company says 45 warranty claims and four field reports may be related to the condition. No injuries or collisions have been associated with the issue.
Recall repairs of affected vehicles are already underway. An OTA software update is the only required remedy.
If your Cybertruck has software 2024.32.5.2 or later, it’s already in compliance and needs no further update.
Recall repairs are free by law. Automakers make efforts to notify the owners of every affected car but can’t always reach everyone. To find out if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls, try our easy VIN search tool at our recall center.
