Recall Alert: Ford Mustang Suspension Issue

The 2024 Ford Mustang in profile

Ford is recalling 4,595 Mustang coupes and convertibles from model year 2024 because their rear suspension knuckles can fracture. Ford says a broken suspension knuckle can leave a car with ” limited vehicle steering directional control.”

Ford blames the weak joints on casting errors at a supplier. Slag may have made it into one batch of cast parts at a supplier’s factory.

The company says it knows of at least two fractured knuckles in customer cars, though no accidents or injuries related to them.

The supplier has given Ford a list of serial numbers of knuckles that may be weak. However, Ford factory records don’t narrow down exactly which cars got which parts – just the dates the parts were installed.

So, Ford has recalled every car built on those dates. Dealer technicians will check the serial number on each car’s rear suspension knuckle and replace the part if it came from the suspect batch.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
