Ford has issued a recall for about 2,700 Maverick compact pickups from model year 2023 for a rather embarrassing reason. The factory forgot to install a wiring circuit.
The recall affects 2023 Mavericks equipped with the Class II Trailer Tow package, which is only offered on Mavericks with the EcoBoost 4-cylinder turbo engine. This recall doesn’t affect your truck if you own a hybrid Maverick.
The problem? Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it revised the Maverick’s engine bay wiring harnesses for the 2023 model year and, in the process, forgot to include a circuit for the trailer taillamps. Owners can connect a trailer to their 2023 Maverick, but its taillights won’t work. That poses an obvious hazard.
Ford tells dealers in a repair bulletin that the trailer’s brake lights and turn signals work. But the taillights are inoperative.
Dealers will fix the problem by splicing in the missing wires. Recall repairs are always free.
Many cars are recalled to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring their vehicle in for repair, they rarely reach them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. Check the easy VIN tool at our recall center to find out if your car is one of them.
