Ford has issued a recall for about 222,000 F-150 pickups from model year 2021 because their windshield wiper arms can break when used.
When automakers issue recalls, they explain the problem to federal safety regulators. This explanation is classic engineer-speak: “Worn wiper arm spline tooling core inserts at the supplier resulted in insufficient spline tooth height.”
What does that mean? It means the wiper arm can snap, leaving drivers with reduced visibility in the rain.
Thankfully, the fix is quick. Dealers will inspect the wiper arms and replace them if necessary.
