General Motors is recalling about 7,800 vehicles under the Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands that use 9-speed automatic transmissions built during a certain period in August 2022.
Recalled models include the following:
- 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5 (783 vehicles)
- 2023 Cadillac XT6 (613 vehicles)
- 2023 GMC Acadia (1,059 vehicles)
- 2023 Chevrolet Blazer (444 vehicles)
- 2023 Chevrolet Traverse (4,941 vehicles)
The transmissions, GM says, may have been built with an improperly-cast sun gear. That can cause the driver’s side half-shaft to disengage from the transmission, leading to a loss of propulsion. Vehicles also can’t enter mechanical park mode with a detached half-shaft.
GM is still developing a remedy for the problem. When it’s ready, the repair will be free. By law, there is never a charge for recall repairs.
