Ram is recalling 1,271,294 of its 1500 full-size trucks due to an issue with the second-row seat belts. The action impacts trucks from model years 2019 through 2026.
According to the recall filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some trucks “may have been built with second-row seat belt buckle anchors not properly attached to the body structure, which may result in reduced occupant restraint capabilities.”
Earlier this year, the automaker’s Canadian division, FCA Canada, received reports of a customer complaint that the rear seat belt anchor was not properly installed. After an investigation, parent company Stellantis concluded that a large group of trucks was built with the issue. According to Reuters, Stellantis is aware of one potentially related injury tied to the issue.
To fix the issue, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, attach the second-row seat belt anchor to the body structure. Stellantis will begin notifying dealers this week, with owner notifications expected to start in mid-August.
