Production-intent’ Jeep Grand Cherokee Concept needs a name

A new variation-to-be of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee made its formal debut today at the Houston Auto Show. All that’s keeping this stealthy one-off with "production intent" from transitioning to volume-build status is the lack of suitable nomenclature. To help resolve that issue, Jeep also announced the start of an online "Name My Ride" contest that will offer one lucky individual the chance to do just that — as well as to drive off in a one of these trick special-edition Grand Cherokees.

Based on the well-appointed Laredo X model and finished in Brilliant Black, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Concept features a host of exterior tweaks intended to give it an edgier, more aggressive appearance. Up front, a Black grille surround houses a Platinum Chrome insert set off by a Platinum Chrome lower fascia appliqué and black headlamp bezels. Other exterior enhancements on this stealthily sinister exercise include unique Gloss-Black 20-inch alloy wheels and a Black liftgate light bar. A second example of Jeep’s Grand Cherokee Concept painted Deep Cherry Red will go on display Thursday at the Washington D.C. Auto Show.

"We plan to garner feedback from consumers at the Houston Auto Show, and via our online Jeep ‘Name My Ride’ contest," said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "If the level of excitement is what we anticipate, this new Grand Cherokee will be in Jeep showrooms this spring."

As for contest rules and details, all can be found at Jeep.com/namemyride or the mobile site, m.jeep.com/namemyride. Entries will be compiled and culled to three final choices that site visitors will then vote on. Jeep plan to announce the winning name in May, and award its submitter a production version of this distinctive Grand Cherokee in recognition of their efforts.
