Nissan recalled 149 Altima sedans from the 2025 model year after discovering a problem that could lead to the vehicle’s airbag deploying improperly — or not at all.
According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report, the front passenger and passenger knee airbag modules on the vehicles were installed with incorrect mounting bolts during assembly. As a result, the fasteners may not maintain the required load-bearing capacity for the airbag modules.
If the fasteners fail, the airbag may not deploy properly, or it may move out of position. This could increase the risk of injury during a crash. At the time of this report, Nissan was not aware of any warranty reports, accidents, or injuries related to this issue.
Nissan dealers will fix this issue by replacing all four fasteners on the airbag modules with the correct bolts. The 30-minute repair will be completed free of charge. Owners with affected vehicles will be notified by Sept. 25.
