After being on the market for just over a year, the Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid has dropped from the automaker’s lineup. There will be no 2016 model and production of the electric/gas vehicle was actually halted last January. Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore told Automotive News that the company has been selling the vehicle out of dealer stocks and it will not return for the 2016 model year.
"The hybrid was never a big part of Pathfinder sale," Bedore said to the trade journal. "Our emphasis has been on the traditionally powered Pathfinder, which is really the heart of the market for that segment." There is some speculation that Nissan may be working on a Rogue hybrid as a replacement.
Priced about $3,000 more than a conventional model, the Nissan Pathfinder combined a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 20 horse electric motor driving the front axle as part of what can be best described as a mild hybrid system that delivered only four more combined mpg over a conventional V6-powered model. The cancellation of the Pathfinder Hybrid does not affect its luxury counterpart, the Infiniti QX60 Hybrid, which will remain in production.
