The 2022 Subaru Forester’s combination of boxy utility and all-condition confidence are sure to be welcome in the snowier, muddier, or simply wilder parts of the country. But which model of Forester is the most popular? It turns out each trim level has a nearly equal number of fans, but there is one that’s slightly more popular than the rest, and that’s the 2022 Subaru Forester Premium.
The 2022 Subaru Forester is available in six trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring, and, all-new for 2022, Wilderness, pictured in this article. All 2022 Subaru Foresters come with a solid base specification, including standard all-wheel drive with active torque vectoring, LED headlights, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for a rating of 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.
For 2022, the fourth-generation EyeSight Driver Assist system adds advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and an improved stereo camera.
Upgrading from the base model Forester to the Premium brings a great many extras, including standard roof rails, a standard power panoramic moonroof, keyless entry, larger front brake rotors, a 10-way power-adjust driver’s seat, dark-tint privacy glass, X-Mode with hill-descent control, Wi-Fi hotspot, power-folding exterior mirrors, reclining rear seatbacks, and Subaru’s Starlink 6.5-inch Multimedia system with 6-speaker audio system.
Those seeking to upgrade their 2022 Forester Premium can add a handful of features as well, including a new blind-spot detection with lane-change assist system that also adds new automatic emergency steering features, an upgraded instrument panel display, power rear liftgate with automatic close and height memory, and a rear center console with dual USB charge ports.
It’s not hard to see why the 2022 Subaru Forester Premium is the most popular trim — it’s well-equipped despite being only one step up from the Base model. Here’s a quick dive into some of the Forester Premium’s key features.
Generation 4 EyeSight Driver Assist System
New for the 2022 model year Forester, the fourth-generation Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist system the includes pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane-departure and sway warning, and lane-departure prevention from the third-generation system, plus an improved stereo camera and advanced adaptive cruise control with lane centering.
The only option package offered on the Premium includes blind-spot detection with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as a power rear liftgate with height memory and automatic close functions. Automatic Emergency Steering for the EyeSight system is also included in the $1,165 package.
Heated Front Seats, Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel, Power Panoramic Glass Moonroof
In addition to the expansive panoramic power glass moonroof, the Premium trim adds the All-Weather Package with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. The Forester Premium also gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver accent stitching, as well as center dash panel trim in black with a silver metallic finish, and chrome interior door handles. A 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support and dark-tint privacy glass round out the interior upgrades for the Forester Premium.
