Mitsubishi has recalled a total of 108,046 vehicles, including 102,815 2014-2020 Outlander SUVs and 5,231 2018-2022 Outlander PHEV SUVs, because the rear liftgate gas springs could fail, potentially leading to injury.
The company says the failure is due to corrosion, which can cause the gas springs to rupture or fail while supporting the liftgate, increasing the risk of injury.
To fix the issue, dealers will replace the affected parts with ones that have improved resistance to corrosion. Owner notification letters will be mailed on June 17. Repairs for this issue, as with all recalls, will be free, as required by law.
Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
